@@dhaviationfanatic99 I do not know all the details about what airline you’re flying and where you’re going and how big your puppy will be. However, I recommend purchasing the large size pet carriers for most flights to give you a little bit of extra space.
Not stressing as much anymore now that I found out I can buy my dog an extra seat and pay the pet fee on Alaska Airlines. He would just have to be in his carrier on the seat. By booking him as "cabin baggage." My choice of carrier is the Katziela. Just hoping the carrier will fit in the seat but that's a relief. Thank you on this helpful video.
The Sherpa m is compliment on all Canadian airlines and is what I used when I needed to travel 12 hours with my 7 month old shihtzu going on plains and layovers
Do you still travel on Canadian airlines with your dog? What is the current height and weight and breed? Have Westjet or AC given you any hassles? We are thinking of getting a dog and trying to find a breed that meets the requirements. We have heard that some people are turned down at the airport depending on who the person is who checks you in.
Thank you for the informative video! I’m preparing my pup for a 12-hour flight and have been stressing about making sure he is comfortable while staying compliant with the airline’s requirements. Now I’m certain the Sherpa is the right one for us! Also, you have a super cool job!
Wow thank you so much for making the exact video that I needed! I’ve been **stressing** out about flying coast to coast with my pitty pup - particularly cause so many airlines are saying “max. carrier height of 8 inches” which just seemed so short. So many carriers online say they’re airline approved and go up to 12”, so this has helped me a TON!
Did you end up travelling with the dog? We want a dog and need to be able to travel with it and it is so frustrating to meet all of the size requirements. I however see some dogs at the airports that don't look like they meet the requirements. yet they are allowed on. Is it a puppy or full size?
Hey Amanda! I really enjoyed your video about airline-approved pet carriers. As a full-time flight nanny, your expertise and experience traveling with dogs, cats, and rabbits are invaluable. It's great to hear your insights on selecting the right carrier to ensure compliance with TSA and airline regulations. Your criteria for flexibility, compactness, and maintaining shape are spot on. I appreciate your thoroughness and attention to detail. Looking forward to checking out your favorite carrier in the description. Keep up the fantastic work! 🐾✈
I do appreciate all the information that you provide for domestic flights thank you it will be helping a lot of people. Looking forward to see your suggestion for international flights
Yes, that is exactly why I made this video so you will not be nervous about these restrictions. As long as you use a soft carrier that can compress under the seats and your dog fits comfortably inside then you will be just fine when flying within the US. I suggest purchasing two or three to see which one works best for your dog and simply return the ones you don’t use.
Do you know much about air premia in cabin soft kennel size? It’s very small I have a Yorkie.. I’m very nervous about having issues checking in. She is only 4.9 lbs and with her long ears she is really 7-8 inches in height body height- but add her ears and she’s 10-11
I bought Petmate sky kennel for my 20lb Jack Russell to fly from the USA to Finland (Europe). It worked great, she flew in hold (cargo) so not inside the cabin since she was too big for a carry on. Bought extra travel kit to make it official for international flight which is that you needed to have the plastic bolts replaced with metal ones, live animal stickers, zip ties, pad and funnel for water. They have to be able to feed and water the dog without opening the door since everything gets sealed with zip ties before opening again at the Finnish Customs.
@@brickharris5712 is it hard to carry with the shoulder strap since the carrier is circular? I know they are great for the car as they have been crash tested, but wondered how effective they are on flights since they are circular. Have you flown with one?
Awesome video. We were really struggling to find a big bag for our pup until we saw this. Really hope you can help with the below. We are flying copa airline which is 18x11x11 requirement. Is it more likely to pass check-in inspection by having a bag that confirms to the airline dimensions, but the dog looks cramped inside. or instead have an oversized bag that is beyond the airline limits like the Katziela where our dog looks much more comfortable. Our cavapoo dog’s height to shoulder is 14 inches, length is 18inches.
Your pet carrier does not have to match those dimensions exactly. It just has to be squishy enough to fit under the seats. Which all of these pet carriers listed will do. I travel with Allegiant and have used all of these pet carriers. But you will want to make sure you’re flying with a smaller pet and not a large breed dog in order for him to fit comfortably underneath.
So I have a 20-yr old Sherpa bag that is still pristine to this day, but I bought 2 new ones 6 months ago so all 3 of our cats could travel internationally with us. The mesh on the new Sherpas were shredded 3 hours into a 10-hour flight. I had to sew up the holes in the mesh using the airline sleep mask and a travel sewing kit I happened to have in my luggage. I would like to avoid any mid-flight MacGuyvering in the future. What would you recommend for biters/chewers? I've been eyeing the sleepypods and sturdibags.
Omg I just looked up the sleepod and omg it looks so perfect for me thank you for sharing it! I haven’t seen that brand pop up but easily seems like one of the best
Hi thanks for this. AA says the height is 9” but most of the carriers are taller. Also what do you think of the back pack combo or having wheels? I’m just nervous that the backpack could be hard on my back as well as just the ones with shoulder straps. If you like the backpack ones or the ones with wheels, is there an affordable model? My dog is 12 pounds but after awhile he starts to feel heavy. Last question do you ever have to give a dog some kind of sedative? My dog will freak out from the noise and not being on my lap. Thank you so much I’m advance for your thoughts!!
What a GREAT video, so full of wonderful information! Thanks so much! I loved the Sherpa Deluxe, but I also loved the wheeled capability of the Katziela Luxury Pet Carrier. I've never flown with a pet before and the thought of trying to carry the pet carrier (my dog weighs 17 lbs) on one shoulder plus steer my suitcase through an airport...oh, and my purse too (maybe on the other shoulder), yegads, talk about daunting! Is that how you travel or do you have another secret for easier transport through the airport? Can the Sherpa Deluxe come with wheels and a handle? I so appreciate any suggestions you can offer--I would be traveling by myself with my dog.
Hello Barb, when traveling with a pet most airlines consider the pet to be your carryon item. So we are allowed just a personal item. I normally have a backpack and the pet. Sometimes I use my a rolling suitcase and place the pet on top so we can roll right up to the gate. Then I check my bag at the gate. I definitely recommend wheels for any pet over 15lbs. I often use the KATZIELA wheel base with other bags. Great question!
@@purplepup After reading your reply I remembered reading that when I got my puppy (almost 5 years ago) and I totally forgot until you mentioned it. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my question and reminding me about this rule!
Thank you so much for this video. Does the roverlund fold up as well? Also do you have any Tipps on calming a nervous dog? My pup was so scared when I took her for her first flight and I couldn’t really calm her down.
Amanda, thanks for the great informacion. I want to get a carrier bag for my dachshund 15.5 pounds. Which one do you recommend me for my dachshund? My dachshund is kinda long 17 inches. Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi Amanda, I bought your favorite the sherpa deluxe. It is really nice but I feel it could be a little taller...maybe she doesn't need as much length idk...Im looking at the BurgeonNest large 19.3"L x 12"W x 13.4"H but seems too big for airline requirements. Did you meant the BurgeonNest medium? 17.7"L x 12"W x 12.5"H? So afraid they're not going to let her on the plane...do they squish down like the Katziela? There is an amazon one called the Morpilot portable cat carrier 17.3 x 12.2 x 13.4 but seems really cheaply made idk...flying international on Alaska...your opinion? I appreciate your help so much! Thank you!!
Hi, thanks for your video. Have you ever tried Ruff Life 101 Airline Approved Expandable Premium Pet Carrier on Wheels? I choose this one over the Katziella
Hi Amanda, I bought the sherpa deluxe beautiful but I think it might be better a litte taller, length is fine a little shorter would be okay i think if necessary. The Burgeon Nest you recommended does it squish down enough for the the large. Or would the medium work? Flying internationally on Alaska air..I am moving so I have to make my flight...any thoughts? Thank you so much, J
All of the carriers I mentioned are approved for Alaska. I recommend purchasing a few until you feel comfortable with the way your pet fits inside. Try the medium burgeonnest next.
I’m flying southwest July 8,from Omaha to Seattle,I have a 8m min Poodle, the carrier I bought has pop off wheels, and is too high, but if I turn on side,it’s fine, and if flex,I can send a pic and would appreciate your opinion
Amanda, this video was sooo helpful. I live in Germany (moving back to US Sept1). Flying Delta with extra leg room. My Havanese is 18 long and 12 high 19 pounds. The carriers were going to take weeks to get here so I went with the amazon basic in large. Do you think this will be ok? I have had the hardest time find anything decent here. Thank you!
Have you tried purchasing directly from the Sherpa website or KATZIELA website rather than Amazon? Delta in the US is usually very pet friendly as long as your dog appears comfortable inside your pet carrier. Try a KATZIELA bag if at all possible.
I loved your video ❤️ It’s really helpful for people like us. What carrier should I use in United Ailines international flight for my Shihtzu? It would be really kind if you could suggest. Thanks & Regards
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I’m flying to get an 8 week old American Akita puppy on the 20th. I’m a little concerned. I’m also flying American. Have you ever transported an American Akita puppy? Do you have any specific carrier recommendations for them?
Would Alaska airlines allow the katziela? And do you think its possible if my dog will fit? He's 18 inches tall and 20 inches long. When measured at the shoulder to paw, hes 14 inches tall and 16 inches long when measuring from neck to rump. He's also 19 lbs.
Hi Amanda, I love this video. Thank you for doing this video, it gave me an idea where to start searching for a carrier. I was wondering have you ever used the Sherpa Deluxe size large on an American Eagle flight operated by AA? Have you had any push back? I got the Sherpa Deluxe size large and I love how springy and roomy it is. My Maltipoo is 11 lbs but per his body type seems to fit best in size large rather than medium. Thanks in advance.
@@purplepup okay thank you. I just hope I get a agent who allows me to board without any issues. I’m going to take my old bag that does fit their requested dimensions, in case I have to swap him out. Sherpa is definitely a nice one.
Hey Amanda- thanks for this video- I know you were talking about US flights but do you know anything about flying in cabin on WestJet by chance. My dog is 20 pounds and their carrier size is very small but I have read that the large sherpa will fit under the seat.
Love to hear how it goes. Been trying to find out about flying with a dog and get so many conflicting answers. There are the new rules coming down the pipeline as well surrounding bringing pets into the USA and soon Canada will be introducing their rules.
I have two bostonterrier and they are about 24pound each. I might move back to my country Ohio to Japan. Do you recommend which air line is the best and what route is best for my dogs?
I am flying on FRONTIER next month with my 20 pound pug (putting him on a diet so he will weigh less), but the carrier limits are 14x18x ONLY 8 ' HEIGHT. I am very nervous about that. If they say the pet needs to be able to stand up and turn around, that will never happen at 8".
Hi Amanda, sorry to ask again...is the Burgeon Nest large too big? She fits inside the medium but not much room to turn around and her head its the top a little when she's sitting up. I don't know if it's better to have it longer as with the Sherpa but she can't sit up or the taller one? She is very stressed being inside. Believe me I've tried to get her use to carriers! Thank you very much !
You will not be turned away due to carrier size if you use the Burgeon Nest large. I use this on Alaska and it is very similar in size to the katziela. please keep in mind, pets get turned away because they are too big for their carriers. Not because the carrier is too big.
Does the Sherpa deluxe large squish in length from 19" to 17"? Or maybe if you shorten the bottom board a couple inches? And height and width will definitely work on Alaska airlines? they say, 17" x 11" x 9.5" But I'd rather use a large, for a 14 lbs Chihuahua Corgi mix if possible. (I asked before but more questions in this comment)😊
It will be perfect for Alaska without any adjustments. I recommend premium seats if possible to allow for some extra leg room. But I use this bag on Alaska Airlines without any problems. 💜
The Sherpa Large will work on Southwest (and any other major airline within the US) The Sherpa with wheels is good for small beeed pets or cats but the wheels are not removable and will take away your vertical height. If you want a bag with wheels definitely use the KATZIELA with the removable wheel bases.
On your go to bag, that’s ok now on southwest? I will be taking my 8 month old min poodle to Seattle in July, she is 3 months now,you say 18x11x11 I just didn’t want to get denied, thank you
This is great information. I work for a big box pet store in Hawaii. The most common question is what you mentioned in your video. Our military customers have to travel across the country and sometimes international, mostly with pets that require to be under the plane. What do most airlines require for hard carriers aside from four side ventilation, bowl attachments and food? Do you take these types of client?
I do often help with large pets that need to travel as “accompanied baggage”. The guidelines are set by IATA but each airline has additional variations. Always check the airline website or give them a call.
I have had success with the Sherpa Large in small regional planes. That is because the Sherpa is soft and flexible and can fit under the seats. But do make sure your pet fits comfortably inside.
Thank you so much for this. I've been using the Sturdibag large for 6 years and it's nice and flexible and light, very similar to the Sherpa, but a dome shape. I have noticed that I get some pushback at certain locations (Dulles counter at Southwest) who get worked up that my 16 lb small dog cannot stand fully and have tried to make him spin on command. I don't have that issue at any other location. I doubt they insist on this criteria for cats, so it's pretty irritating (I would love to see them try to command a cat). How have you handled that when ferrying dogs?
I use the KATZIELA bag if I’m traveling with a larger dog so they are guaranteed to be able to stand up and turn around for just this reason. Airline employees are well within their rights to make sure the dog can comfortably stand up and turn around. 90% of the time it is not a problem. But you are correct in your discovery that every airport and every employee will enforce these rules differently. 🤷♀️
Thanks for the great video. Flying Alaska airlines to Hawaii. Are either of these ok for my 10 pound Chihuahua? Petskd Pet Carrier 17x11x9.5 Alaska Airline Approved OR Petskd Top-Expandable Pet Carrier 17x11x9.5 Inches Alaska Airline Thank you
Thank you for this video. I am bringing a pup back from Sicily to the US in June flying Lufthansa and United. I am debating between the Katziela Bone Cruiser and the Sherpa carriers. Pup will be 11-13 lbs and 10-12 inches talk to the top of the head. Do you have a recommendation between the two? Thank you
@@purplepup my only concern is whether the height of the Bone Cruiser will cause them to reject it at the gate. I will be in Sicily flying Lufthansa back. It’s kind of stressing me out because I’ve never done this before. I definitely like the height of it and that it has wheels which is why I’m still debating.
@@jareds44m why would you be rejected for this bag? The whole reason I recommend it is to save you from these fears. It is designed to compress under the seats. Some families bring an extra bad with them just in case to make them feel more confident with this process.
@@purplepup thank you so much. I will probably bring both and go from there. I appreciate you taking be time to respond and thanks so much for the video!
Wonderful advice thank you! I have a question I’m getting ready to take my chihuahua/daschind mix from France to America. On Air France’s website it says the carriers size limits are 18 x 11 x 9 1/2 inches * and I’ve found several carriers close to that size but nothing that tiny. The dog is within the weight limit and she’s small, do you think they’ll still accept her? Thanks x
Have you flown on Alaska airlines, with a large Sherpa, or is the medium Sherpa necessary? 17" x 11" x 10.5" I called them and said the sides squish down a bit and they said ok, to the medium, as Alaska wants the height 9.5" But I'd love to use the large if possible(?)
Thank you for this video! This is really helpful as I fly with my dog for the first time. My boston terrier is 20lbs, 19'' in length, 15'' h, and 9''w. You may notice that her dimensions are the maximum allowed and I'm nervous that it's so close that I will get denied. Do you have any best practices or knowledge you can share in this scenario?
It depends a lot on the airline you are flying with and how comfortable your dog is in her pet carrier. If you’d like to email me and I will see if I can provide any guidance. amanda@purplepup.net.
Hi, so curious which carrier you went with. I have a havanese that is 18 in length and 12 high and weighs 19 pounds. I live in Germany (moving back to US in Sept). All the bags recommended would come from US and take too long so ordered amazon basic (L)🤞🏼. I am flying Delta and hoping for some leniency with the larger bag. Good Luck with your flight!
I purchased the Roverland Large OUT-OF-OFFICE PET CARRIER, and it's been a pleasant surprise. It's got this nice balance of structure and durability, yet it's still flexible when you need it to be. Although I haven't put it to the test on a flight just yet, I tested it out on a 4-hour road trip. Even though it's a bit cozy for my dog, she managed to curl up inside and fall asleep, which put my mind at ease, with an upcoming flight to Canada that will be the real make-or-break moment. Fingers crossed!@@fj.sanabria9869
Hello! I have two Boston Terriers that are similar size/weight to yours? Did you make the flight with your dog? What airline did you use? What pet carrier? Thank you for the update.
Flying a 10 week old Samoyed from US Mainland to Hawai’i (yes, we’ll then end up in a 2-3 month quarantine). We’ll only use carrier once (for this trip). What would you recommend?
Hi, this video was super informative. You mention that the Katziela is scratch and bite proof - is that based on your experience with an especially determined pet? I flew recently with my cat and she managed to bite through the mesh and broke the zipper on the carrier we had and I'm looking for a replacement. My poor girl unfortunately hates the plane - she's perfectly fine travelling to the airport and walking around in the airport, but she's stressed out during the flight itself and tries nonstop to break out of the carrier. I even tried taking her to the bathroom so she could be out of the carrier for a bit but it didn't help her relax. During our last flight we gave her a sedative (gabapentin) and we sprayed her carrier with pheromone spray, but neither seemed to make much of a difference, if at all. We unfortunately need something very tooth and claw proof, preferably that she wouldn't hurt herself on.
What is great about the nylon mesh of the KATZIELA is that it is very fine so a claw or tooth is not easily able to hook in. It is worth a try, although I have not used it as much for cats. Try also the sleepypod air or BurgeonNest. I believe I have them linked on my Amazon storefront.
@@purplepup Wow, thank you for the quick response! I'll definitely look into those - the Sleepypod Air has come up more than a few times in my research.
Enjoyed your reviews..traveling with an 11 pd. Poodle mix dog on Jet Blue, very concerned the large sherpa will be allowed where she will fit more comfortable. Advice?
@@maryannalamocasanova8504 you are welcome to book a consultation with me so we can chat about choosing the right airline and pet carrier for your trip. www.purplepup.net/shop
I recommend taking her measurements and then matching them to the measurements of the carrier to help you answer that question. Or you can do what a lot of families do and purchase a couple of pet carriers to see which one fits best and then simply return what you don’t use.
Are you flying within the USA? There are no breed restrictions for dogs when traveling with your dog in-cabin. They just must be at least 8 weeks old, and fit into one of these pet carriers. Some airlines may want him to be under 20lbs.
My poodle mix is 13 lbs but her height is 13 inch. I have the Sturdybag in L and the Sherpa in L. Especially in the Sherpa she can’t stand up! And she will always touch the bag with her head and back. We took the Sturdybag on a Lufthansa (German Airline) flight from Frankfurt to Barcelona and back. It wasn’t a problem but some Airlines seem to be very strict about space between the head/back and the height of the bag.
This is true. For domestic flights I recommend flying on Southwest if possible. They are very pet friendly and will not give you any problems when flying with pets in cabin. The KATZIELA bags are excellent for tall dogs! They can stand up and turn around without touching. And then it folds down easily for under seat storage
Don’t they deny the Katziela due to height? Even if the fit under the seat. They look huge! And the dog can only stand up when the bag is not under the seat, so as good as they seem to work it doesn’t make sense cause the dog only can stand up when not flying (under the seat). But honestly which dog can stand up under the seat, perhaps a wiener dog or so 🙈 We will try to fly Frankfurt Los Angeles with our pup in November, but we have miles and can fly business, so I might be interested in the Katziela bag cause in Business class from Lufthansa the bag is not under the seat, it stands free and is attached with a strip to your seatbelt. 😅
I really appreciate your video. I am looking for carrier for 2 Siberian cats (7 and 5 months). Is there something I would be able to us in a cabin? I am flying international with Lufthansa and their dimensions requirements are 22x16x9 (or total 47''). The flight is 9 hours and total trip 12.5. What would you recommend?
Hi Amanda! I want to fly with my mini poodle. Her measurements are 23 inches long, 7 inches wide and 7 inches from the floor to elbow. Do you think she would fit in a 18x11x11? I brought her in a 17x11x11 from Boston to Texas and they told me it was too small. She is 12 lbs.
Hello! If you are flying on one of the major US airlines I would not recommend it. She would have to squeezed inside. You might be able to get away with it in Southwest or Spirit. Maybe purchase a few pet carriers and see what the fit is like. Some dogs like to curl up into a little croissant.
Have you used the Katziela carriers on Alsakan Airlines? I’m taking my french bulldog (30lbs) to Hawaii next month (military move) Pretty much every carrier is too small for him to *actually* be comfortable. I can’t and won’t put him in cargo due to his breed. Alaska has pretty small restrictions on dimensions and was curious if you have used it for that airline in particular? Do you have any advice for what to do if they say the carrier is too big? For instance, would they let me on if I show that it can conform to under-seat requirements?
Alaska is very generous with their policies and one of the most pet friendly you will find. I always recommend KATZIELA for French Bulldogs because there is so much ventilation. KATZIELA, like every other bag on this list, is TSA approved. The bag will not be the issue, they want to see a calm and comfortable pet.
Hi, I'm wondering how your move to Hawaii using Alaskan Airlines went. I am planning to move (from LA to Hawaii) with my 30lbs dog and it would be so helpful to know how your experience was.
Hi Iam not sure how often you check comments (or if viewers have suggestions) but I am on the struggle bus as I unfortunately have no choice but to fly frontier and they require an 18x14x8 carrier which does not exist sadly. Have you ever had to fly Frontier and if so or ehat carrier would you recomend? ty for your time
From my experience, you do not have to meet the exact dimensions. As long as the bag is flexible, enough to squish under the seat and your pet can fit comfortably inside, you will be just fine using a bag like the Sherpa large on frontier.
You still have options. They may not be able to fly commercial but I am sure we can find a way. You are welcome to schedule a consultation so I can help.
Amanda, are you saying that altho the dimensions of the katziela carrier exceed United's requirement, they will allow this onboard because it is so flexible?
Please help!! My dog is 10lbs. She is an Italian greyhound/chihuahua mix. So her height, because of her legs is around 16"-17" my fear is she cannot stand, or turn around in a carrier like you're showing here? I bought her one that allows her to stand & turn around in? But exceeds the height of underneath the front seat? I'm looking move back home cross country on a One Way flight in a 4 1/2 hour trip? What do you advise me? Thanx🩷
Hello, what would you recommend for Delta Airlines? I keep thinking about paying a lot of money for a ticket, and then they deny the pet carrier. And wanted to ask someone experienced.
Hi Amanda. I have a Cavapoo should be around 14lbs and I travel mostly with JetBlue. I have never traveled in cabin with a dog and I am a bit nervous about which carrier I should buy for my dog that will be big enough for my dog and JETBLUE will let me use. Any suggestions please?
Try the KATZIELA and Sherpa large. You can try them at home to see if your dog fits comfortably inside and simply return it if you don’t need it. JetBlue allows all of these pet carriers.
We are moving from Boston to FL. I have 2 small dogs , Chihuahua (7lbs) & Min Schnoodle (14lbs) & 2 cats (13 & 16lbs) which do you recommend for either delta or jet blue? I’m worried about the cats being larger & clawing the mesh 😬
Both the Sherpa Deluxe and the KATZIELA will work on these airlines and sustain cat scratches. I would not recommend squeezing your four pets into just two pet carriers. Happy to offer you some transport options if you need it.
Well, this is a video all about air transportation so car seat belts are not typically a priority. We always recommend hard sided kennels for car transport. And yes, finding a safe and reliable pet carrier is worth the investment.
@purplepup fair enough..though I'd argue you need to drive to the airport in the first place and using separate kennels for car and air seems excessive and expensive
@@maxisenberg9093 most of these carriers have a luggage strap and you can feed the seatbelt through that for in car transport iif needed. Sometimes you can also put a seatbelt directly over the top and through the handles for a bit of protection while driving. I wouldn’t let this issue prevent you from trying one of these carriers out.
@purplepup I've never thought to.use the luggage strap but feel it won't fit flat that way? I don't fly wirh my pets so aorline approval iant an issue though I happen to have one that is, the mr peanuts gold series. I'll probably just upgrade to the model woth expansions. But that also had a luggage strap I'll try
The medium fits perfectly, and the large will work with a little bit of effort. That’s the great thing about the Sherpa brand carriers. They are soft and flexible without sacrificing on quality so they will fit under any major airline seat.
Ah thank you! Wanted to be sure as I asked United for the under-seat measurements for Boeing 737-800 and they told me it was 14 width x 12 height and 9 length in inches and the Sherpa large is 11.75 width x 11.5 height 19 length x in inches. Width and height is fine but the length is what had me worried.
I have used expandables on international flights but it is not my preference. It’s fussy and adds bulk to the interior of the carrier. And you generally will not have room to expand under the seat.
Any tips for traveling with 2 carriers? It's just me traveling from Hawaii to CA and am worried I'm gonna have trouble holding everything. Also, do you think those cat backpacks would fit under the seat?
First! See this video th-cam.com/users/shortsXze40sZbC8A?feature=share -request a private screening at security -request early boarding at the gate -use the family restrooms as a place to let the cats safely out of their bags if needed. -strongly suggest using a roller bag for one cat or you can grab a nearby wheelchair to help you get them around the airport. Have fun! 💜 You’ve got this!
Hi, I will be traveling with 2 pets to Hi, from CA. What airline did you go on? And did the soft carriers fit lengthwise through the aisle? I'm thinking to stack them on a luggage cart, so I can roll them in.🐱🐕❤️
When it comes to choosing a breed of dog, I definitely recommend checking out the AKC marketplace so that you can look at all of the characteristics of a dog you were interested in to make sure it’s a good fit for your lifestyle. If you’re wanting a dog you can travel with by plane, sometimes Italian greyhounds can be a little too tall to fly in the cabin. I see a lot of Yorkies, dachshunds, mini poodles, Shih Tzu’s, compact French bulldogs, Maltese. These would be a good place to start if you’re looking for a dog you can travel with in the cabin just about anywhere.
I’ve been doing some reading. My dog fits the airlines requirements but he is 10 years old and although in good health I’ve read older dogs often die in flights, is it safe to flight w your dog in cabin?
That has not been my experience. But I definitely encourage you to speak to your vet to make sure there are no underlying heart problems or breathing problems that could cause discomfort.
Thank you so much this was extremely helpful..would you say the roverlund is more sturdy than the sherpa deluxe? It's not for airline use but every day travel. I've got a chiweenie that needs a good bit of stability for his long back lol.
The ROVERLUND canvas material is a bit thicker and the removable insert on the zipper end provides some nice structure. But both bags would likely fit your needs. 💜
@@Fin3sseKiD516 professionally I wouldn’t recommend it. You might get away with it on Delta if you find a pet carrier that fits her properly, but there is no guarantee.
This is confusing. I thought you said all of these bags would be ok on all major US airlines. But here you are saying that professionally you wouldn’t recommend it. Please explain. Thanks
Have you ever traveled on Frontier Airlines or Spirit Airlines with the Sherpa? I have that same bag, but it is 11" tall and the Frontier website says 8" tall is the max.
That’s great!
Some airlines don't allow the passenger to purchase a seat for a pet. I'm glad that airline made it easy for you.

Thank you so much! Have an amazing flight.
Glad it was helpful!
We love Mr. Peanuts carriers, and yes, have flown twice with an 18 lb cat. No issues at all.
I do appreciate all the information that you provide for domestic flights thank you it will be helping a lot of people. Looking forward to see your suggestion for international flights
Thanks! I would love to offer more advice on international travel once I have a bit more experience. Definitely let us know how it goes with your cat!
Thank you so much for this video! First time traveling with my maltipoo and been nervous about carriers.
You are so welcome. Have a great flight!
I am curious about sherpa backpack/duffel bag style
Everything I read is that it cannot be taller than 9.5" which seems like you can only bring tiny critters. My terrier is 20 pounds but has long legs.
It’s very small
I have a Yorkie.. I’m very nervous about having issues checking in. She is only 4.9 lbs and with her long ears she is really 7-8 inches in height body height- but add her ears and she’s 10-11
We’re traveling to Korea
I bought Petmate sky kennel for my 20lb Jack Russell to fly from the USA to Finland (Europe). It worked great, she flew in hold (cargo) so not inside the cabin since she was too big for a carry on. Bought extra travel kit to make it official for international flight which is that you needed to have the plastic bolts replaced with metal ones, live animal stickers, zip ties, pad and funnel for water. They have to be able to feed and water the dog without opening the door since everything gets sealed with zip ties before opening again at the Finnish Customs.
Just get a Sleepy pod carrier it's worth it!
What about sleepypood air? Its missing in this list!
I will give it try!
Anyone have experience flying on Allegiant? Their dimensions are 9”H x 16”W x 19”D for a carrier which nobody appears to even make one that dimension.
Great informative video , thank you !
How did it go with all 3? I am planning to move to Europe soon and have a Pomeranian and two cats. Were they all in the cabin?
Hey there
What would suit for 2 dogs between 9-11 pounds?
thank you. Carriers by Away or Sleepod
Thank you Amanda for all you help and expertise!
I’m curious about them being able to stand and turn. Even my little one is tall. (Cats)

Thank you!!
Have you ever used the sherpa deluxe in a jet blue flight? Wondering if they will measure the bag.
It works great on JetBlue. In my experience no airline has ever measured the bag. They just want you let comfortable in his carrier.

Will Allegiant allow the large sherpa?
Yes
Thank you! We are flying next week, and I've heard Allegiant is strict and has ridiculous measurements.
@@DebbieCarlin-Hubbert the bag is not an issue. Making sure your pet is comfortable inside the bag is most important.

Not for domestic flights. Be sure to check out their website for requirements to your destination
Great video
Super helpful! Thank you💖
Does the Sherpa deluxe large squish in length from 19" to 17"? Or maybe if you shorten the bottom board a couple inches? And height and width will definitely work on Alaska airlines?
they say, 17" x 11" x 9.5"
But I'd rather use a large, for a 14 lbs Chihuahua Corgi mix if possible. (I asked before but more questions in this comment)😊
It will be perfect for Alaska without any adjustments. I recommend premium seats if possible to allow for some extra leg room. But I use this bag on Alaska Airlines without any problems. 💜
Will the large Sherpa deluxe work with southwest? I bought the medium size and seems tight for my mini poodle. What about the Sherpa deluxe on wheels?
The Sherpa Large will work on Southwest (and any other major airline within the US) The Sherpa with wheels is good for small beeed pets or cats but the wheels are not removable and will take away your vertical height.
If you want a bag with wheels definitely use the KATZIELA with the removable wheel bases.
On your go to bag, that’s ok now on southwest? I will be taking my 8 month old min poodle to Seattle in July, she is 3 months now,you say 18x11x11 I just didn’t want to get denied, thank you
All of these bags are approved for all major airlines. Southwest is very pet friendly so you should have zero problems.
Thank you for the information, Have you ever used the Soutwest brand carrier?
Yes! It will do in a pinch
What is one supposed to do when you have to fly on a smaller plane in order to connect with your main carrier?
The Sherpa deluxe is more than 18x11x11 dimensions .. is accepted?
Yes
I have the wild one carrier and tbh it is such a pain to try and get the dog back in and zip up quickly after TSA in a rush....

I recommend taking her measurements and then matching them to the measurements of the carrier to help you answer that question. Or you can do what a lot of families do and purchase a couple of pet carriers to see which one fits best and then simply return what you don’t use.
It seems everyone is too short for my small Shiba (18 pounds) to stand up
Unfortunately not every pet is a good fit for in-cabin commercial flights.
Please help any recommendations for airlines that allow dashund terriers to fly updated info so trying g to fly with my pets
Thanks for the quick response. And if you need to fly international it seems the Lufthansa and Delta are the best!
Don’t they deny the Katziela due to height? Even if the fit under the seat. They look huge! And the dog can only stand up when the bag is not under the seat, so as good as they seem to work it doesn’t make sense cause the dog only can stand up when not flying (under the seat). But honestly which dog can stand up under the seat, perhaps a wiener dog or so 🙈
We will try to fly Frankfurt Los Angeles with our pup in November, but we have miles and can fly business, so I might be interested in the Katziela bag cause in Business class from Lufthansa the bag is not under the seat, it stands free and is attached with a strip to your seatbelt. 😅
@@MollysMum-A.K. the KATZIELA bag is soft and flexible so all the airlines I have used have no problem with it.
Thank you so much
I’m screwed…..my huskies are 55-60lbs

But exceeds the height of underneath the front seat? I'm looking move back home cross country on a One Way flight in a 4 1/2 hour trip? What do you advise me? Thanx🩷
Hello, what would you recommend for Delta Airlines? I keep thinking about paying a lot of money for a ticket, and then they deny the pet carrier. And wanted to ask someone experienced.
All of these carriers work for domestic Delta flights as long as your pet fits comfortably inside.
What is the best tsa approved pet carrier with removable wheels for a French Bulldog?
KATZIELA, linked in description
@@purplepup thanks for the information. 😊
@@purplepup is the Katziela the one with wheels?
@@janetcajigas7527 yes, it has a removable wheelbase. Just click on the links in the description for more info.
@@purplepup thank you ! We will have all 4 pets in their own carrier. One pet per person. 😊
Might be airline approved but none are car approved since rhey all lack searbelt buckles.. also some of these are pretty pricy....
Hi, does the Sherpa large fit under United 737-800 seat?
The medium fits perfectly, and the large will work with a little bit of effort. That’s the great thing about the Sherpa brand carriers. They are soft and flexible without sacrificing on quality so they will fit under any major airline seat.
Ah thank you! Wanted to be sure as I asked United for the under-seat measurements for Boeing 737-800 and they told me it was 14 width x 12 height and 9 length in inches and the Sherpa large is 11.75 width x 11.5 height 19 length x in inches. Width and height is fine but the length is what had me worried.
Are expandable carriers not recommended for international flights?
I have used expandables on international flights but it is not my preference. It’s fussy and adds bulk to the interior of the carrier. And you generally will not have room to expand under the seat.
Any tips for traveling with 2 carriers? It's just me traveling from Hawaii to CA and am worried I'm gonna have trouble holding everything. Also, do you think those cat backpacks would fit under the seat?
First! See this video th-cam.com/users/shortsXze40sZbC8A?feature=share
-request a private screening at security
-request early boarding at the gate
-use the family restrooms as a place to let the cats safely out of their bags if needed.
I'm thinking to stack them on a luggage cart, so I can roll them in.🐱🐕❤️
Hello I’m looking to adopt a dog but we travel all the time. What’s the best brand? We are thinking of an Italian greyhound, what do you think?
The link doesn’t work for the one I wanted katzeila
Thanks for letting me know. I have updated the links
Hi, they recommended 18x11x11 im looking into the sherpa deluxe, would that make the cut for American airlines?
Yes
@@Fin3sseKiD516 professionally I wouldn’t recommend it. You might get away with it on Delta if you find a pet carrier that fits her properly, but there is no guarantee.
This is confusing. I thought you said all of these bags would be ok on all major US airlines. But here you are saying that professionally you wouldn’t recommend it. Please explain. Thanks
Ps. I am flying internationally to Mexico
Have you ever traveled on Frontier Airlines or Spirit Airlines with the Sherpa? I have that same bag, but it is 11" tall and the Frontier website says 8" tall is the max. Do you think they'll let me on since it squishes down to size? I'm really worrried. I have emailed them but they haven't gotten back to me.
Frontier is unlikely to give you any problems. But please make sure your pet will be comfortable laying down at the 8” height. You will be squeezing!
