  • Seeing how fast regular homes burn during fires, we assume the same looking at high-rises. They look like giant traps with no escape. But modern skyscrapers feature plenty of safety features, making them much safer than low-rises. In this video, I'll prove you that.
I'll talk about fire-rated elevators, compartmentation, well-thought ventilation system, sprinklers, and other safety features.

The safe ones are safe. But the unsafe ones are not safe.

You're 100% right. Thankfully, the majority of modern high-rises are safe.

@@Design_Nerd hey! Thanks for the reply and for the great video! Can't believe a TH-cam star has replied to me directly 😳 thanks!
Is there an easy way to define 'modern', or does it vary by location (or other factors). Some of my friends live in tall buildings and I'm curious to know how safe they might be...
Anyway, keep up the great work and I'll keep on watching your superb videos!

I would recommend researching each building individually, since it may drastically vary from apartment to apartment. The landlord or property manager should know this information. Most of the systems that I've mentioned aren't new, but it's only recently (post 9/11, and some even later) that they've become mandatory. If the high-rise was built in 2010 or later, it should have all of these systems.

@@Design_Nerd Thanks for the quick reply! I'm gonna look into this, as being better informed about the specifics of their circumstances will help my friends make sensible choices, in the event that something unfortunate does occur in their building. I appreciate your raising awareness of this topic 🙂👍
