Just because you have gone through your items & have things to sell, does NOT mean that they WILL sell. I have drastically pared down my home & the majority had to be donated because it didn't sell & I still have a pile of stuff that I can't donate and have been trying to sell for more than a year. I have no control over that.

Lots of great info. Based on today's staggering prices for eating out (fast food is no longer cheap nor fast). Family of four in the drive thru in front of me ordered breakfast at McDonald's. Their breakfast was over $35!! A couple ahead of me at Subway bought TWO foot long meals and their bill was $36. That is a $1000+ daily habit per month. Insane. My friend's daughter orders a Starbucks $6.75 latte before work every work day, five days a week. That's $141 per month FOR A DRINK. A lot of a little, IS A LOT. Thanks for sharing all the great advice.

I volunteer at a food pantry and I pick up food at Safeway that the store gives to us daily and I always see the same parents with their kids getting them Starbucks. Getting their kids Starbucks is very sad because it is so unhealthy and that is a lazy parent who won't make their own child a healthier meal. But the point is they are wasting all that money on garbage.

Okay, so you have no rent, you don't have a job that requires transportation, time, energy, wardrobe, etc. You have a lifestyle that isn't viable for most people. I'm younger -- it's tough not to have a mortgage/rent when you're in your 30s. I need professional clothes for work. Daycare for my kid. Clothes and food for my kid. I'm often too tired from childrearing and working to cook, and a meal out once a week is one of the few luxuries i indulge in. Unlike you, I don't get medicare from the state -- i have to pay for my healthcare because I'm not over 65. I see your point that people need to streamline their lives but you speak from a place of quite a bit of privilege, sir.

The title alone sounds unrealistic to me because I only earn 1.600 a month. (I do work part time, I would make over 2.000 euros if I worked fulltime. And I am single so.) Of course I have come to realise that American people earn a lot more a month. I see figures of 4.000 or 5.000 dollars a month and it just baffles me how they still don't earn enough money.
But, if you earn 4.000 or 5.000 dollars a month then indeed, saving a 1000 of that amount should be fairly easy.
