It doesn't look like you leave any expansion gaps at the rail joints, are you not concerned about damage from thermal expansion/shrinkage? I've heard this can crack track, and it looks like you have a lot of very nice (and expensive!) track and points that it'd be a shame to have replace.
Hi! I have installed some expansion track pieces which can compensate a length difference of up to 15mm at strategic positions. Those positions are in my big station area and between the concrete crossings where the track can´t move at all. This will take care of all the heat expansion and will prevent damage to my switches and extensive track movement.
It is DCC, or it will be... first I have to install the central staion. Right now I am cleaning the track surface by hand with a sanding wool but there is a handy tool coming up soon. There will be a video on this topic in the future. Way more important for the longevity is the use of some type of screw connector between the rail joints. The factory fish plates for connecting the track pieces cause trouble very quickly.
It looks like a very satisfying job laying the track, especially using that wonderful ‘rail bending’ tool. Do you fix the tracks in place afterwards or are they just sitting on the gravel? You’ve made a great station area, I look forward to seeing it when it’s been completed!
It is very satisfying and enjoyable to install the track. One of my favorite tasks! The track will be embedded in gravel once I have completet all the wiring for switches, signals and lights. For now the track will be sitting on top of the gravel bed.

Danke dir! Das mit dem stimmigen Bild kann ich nur bestätigen. Mit dem zusätzlichen Gleis wirkt der Bahnhof jetzt richtig gut, davor hat irgendwie noch was gefehlt. Die Zusätzlichen Gleis Kapazitäten kann ich auf jeden Fall brauchen. Meine Gartenbahn Saison geht von Januar bis Dezember, die Arbeiten werden einfach weiter gehen :)

You are right, this is the end of the line ... or the beginning? Anyway, the track will be embedded in the balast as soon as I have installed all the wiring needed for switches and signals which will happen soon. It´s like the real railway and it works great!
Amazing layout! I just wonder why the screws on the track junctions aren't Philips head or hex. Seems like that would be much easier and quicker with an electric screwdriver.
That´s great! I had and still have H0 scale rolling stock. But building the landscape on H0 layouts is not for me at all. I´d rather go out in the garden where the landscape already exists and build my railroad there :) As Bonus you get all four seasons every year!
I do have another video which is more detailed about the prcess... th-cam.com/video/iq-VOaRisZk/w-d-xo.html Prep work and precision is the key for this to work. Compact the ground firmly, put gravel down, build a strong concrete form which is level side to side and at the right elevation for your track to sit on. Then mix some concrete at a slump of 5 (pretty wet) and fill the form. Embedding the track in the concrete is very time consuming, you have to monitor and work the concrete for 2 to 3 hours until it´s set. Constantly check your track for level and positon during the whole process. You do it right the first time or do the work twice :) I hope this helps!
Thank you! G-scale is a little bit bigger than OO gauge and for me the perfect compromise between small enough to build a nice layout and big enough to do something with it. Plus its outside which I love because I suck at building landscapes on model railway...
Looking really good now. Winter is on its way now, so you will have to get the snow plough out of the engine shed. I remember as a child there were always Snowplough trains in the HO/OO model brochures. But my father never bought one as he maintained it neve snowed on a layout.🤥. The brown & white hen was quite spectacular, a lovely crown of feathers on its head.

Hi! My track inspector does a good job but he refuses to wear a high-vis jacket all the time. Luckily there are no train operations yet... The track is not secured to the ground in any way, it´s embedded in track ballast, that´s all.

Das sehe ich genau so, deshalb arbeite ich in jeder freien Minute auf dieses Ziel hin und kann schon mal vorweg nehmen das es in wenigen Wochen weitere Testfahrten geben wird. Man kann eine Gartenbahn auch wesentlich kleiner gestalten, so viel Platz ist nicht zwingend nötig. Aber wenn der Platz da ist und man realistische Kuven-Radien und schöne schlanke Weichen verbauen will dann wird selbst ein "kleiner" Bahnhof schnell ziemlich Flächenhungring. Da dieser Bahnhof das "Zentrum" der Anlage darstellt wo später die meiseten Triebfahrzeuge und Züge geparkt werden müssen war es mich wichtig möglichst viel Platz zu haben auch wenn ich jetzt schon weiß das die Gleise nicht ausreichen werden...

Moin Christian! Es freut mich das dir das Video gefällt und du vielleicht den ein oder andern Trick abschauen konntest. Spur G Flex Gleis gibt es von zahlreichen Herstellern, funktionieren tun eigentlich alle. Ich habe mich hauptsächlich aufgrund der Schwellen Optik für THIEL Gleis entschieden und bin sehr zufrieden damit. Kaufen tue ich sie direkt beim Hersteller Ralf Kesselbauer. Dabei ist aber Abholen angesagt weil der Speditionsversandt Unsummen kostet. Die Gleise wirken so "weich" weil sie 2,4 Meter lang sind. Nimmt man davon nur ein 60cm oder 120cm Stück haben sie ganz ähnliche Eigenschaften wie z.B. Gleise von LGB. Wenn man dann noch die Schwellenbänder abwechselnd mit der fixen und offenen Seite aufsteckt ist das Gleis auch als Gerade problemlos verwendbar. In der Funktion als Flex Gleis sollte man die Schwellenbänder alle in gleicher Orientierung aufstecken um das ganze noch gut biegen zu können. Ich empfehle dir dringend ein Biegegerät zu kaufen um saubere Biegungen her zu stellen. Selbst wenn man etwas sparen muss um sich eins leisten zu können lohnt es sich aus meine Erfahrung. Gleise übers Knie biegen geht mit Sicherheit schief. Ich habe mal Not gedrungen ein Geisstück über den Bauch gebogen aber auch das kann ich nicht Empfehlen. Wenn man Flex Gleis verwenden will gehört ein Biegegerät einfach dazu. Viel Spaß beim Bauen!
@@summitrailway Vielen Dank für die ausführlichen Infos. Ich habe mir das Angebot von Thiel angeschaut und ehrlicherweise muss ich sagen, da bin ich finanziell aus dem Spiel. Selbst bei wohlwollender Betrachtung, für eine Kreuzung, die optisch sehr realistisch aussieht, 498€ /996 DM kosten soll, bin ich finanziell aus dem Spiel. Bitte nicht falsch verstehen, ich möchte nicht den Sinn oder Unsinn über Preise entfachen, schließlich gibt es auch in H0 Anbieter die für eine DKW 300€ nehmen und jeder sollte für sich selber entscheiden was zu ihm passt, aber irgendwie erklärt es, dass die Jugend nicht mehr die Modellbahn auf dem Wunschzettel zu Weihnachten hat. Dazu kommt erschwerend, dass die echte Bahn als Vorbild alles andere als ein (Achtung Wortspiel) "Zugpferd" ist. Trotzdem Danke und ich werde Dir weiterhin als Abonnent gewogen bleiben.
@@TheMrXtian Ich ging davon aus das wir nur über Flex Gleis reden. In dem Fall sind die Preise von Thiel durchaus vergleichbar mit denen von allen anderen Herstellern (LGB, Piko, TrainLine usw.). Die Weichen von Thiel sind optisch Klasse und decken ein Portfolio ab welches sonst von kaum einem anderen Hersteller in diesem Maßstab erhältlich ist. Dabei sind sie weder günstig noch plug and play, ich musste an jeder Weiche noch kleine nacharbeiten vornehmen um eine einwandfreie Funktion herzustellen. Wenn man da nicht weiß worauf zu achten ist kann man leicht an den Weichen verzweifeln deshalb halte ich sie für Anfänger nicht geeignet. Als Einsteiger würde ich auf LGB oder Piko Weichen zurück greifen, diese sind deutlich günstiger und funktionieren nach meiner Erfahrung immer sofern sie richtig eingebaut werden. Man muss sich keinesfalls auf einen Hersteller beschränken. Das Schienenprofil ist genormt und zwischen allen Namhaften Herstellern kompatibel! Meist unterscheidet sich nur die Optik der Schwellen bei einfachen Gleis Stücken. Um Geld zu sparen kann man auch gebrauchte Gleise auf eBay kaufen, nur bei Weichen wäre ich vorsichtig, die kaufe ich persönlich immer nur neu. Durch falsche Handhabung durch den Vorbesitzer können bei Weichen Beschädigungen auftreten die man mit Bildern alleine nicht erkennen kann, deshalb Vorsicht!
Ich finde alle Videos wirklich toll, mich würde der weitere Baufortschritt interessieren. :) Was ich allerdings nicht verstehe warum man das in einem schlechten Englisch machen muss anstatt auf Deutsch?

The turnouts are made by a German company called Thiel-Gleis and the track Bender is by Train Li I believe.

We are definately approaching winter. I do have quite a lot of rolling stock but no snow plough yet. That has to change now!

@@summitrailway Vielen Dank für die ausführlichen Infos. Ich habe mir das Angebot von Thiel angeschaut und ehrlicherweise muss ich sagen, da bin ich finanziell aus dem Spiel. Selbst bei wohlwollender Betrachtung, für eine Kreuzung, die optisch sehr realistisch aussieht, 498€ /996 DM kosten soll, bin ich finanziell aus dem Spiel. Bitte nicht falsch verstehen, ich möchte nicht den Sinn oder Unsinn über Preise entfachen, schließlich gibt es auch in H0 Anbieter die für eine DKW 300€ nehmen und jeder sollte für sich selber entscheiden was zu ihm passt, aber irgendwie erklärt es, dass die Jugend nicht mehr die Modellbahn auf dem Wunschzettel zu Weihnachten hat. Dazu kommt erschwerend, dass die echte Bahn als Vorbild alles andere als ein (Achtung Wortspiel) "Zugpferd" ist. Trotzdem Danke und ich werde Dir weiterhin als Abonnent gewogen bleiben.
@@TheMrXtian Ich ging davon aus das wir nur über Flex Gleis reden. In dem Fall sind die Preise von Thiel durchaus vergleichbar mit denen von allen anderen Herstellern (LGB, Piko, TrainLine usw.). Die Weichen von Thiel sind optisch Klasse und decken ein Portfolio ab welches sonst von kaum einem anderen Hersteller in diesem Maßstab erhältlich ist. Dabei sind sie weder günstig noch plug and play, ich musste an jeder Weiche noch kleine nacharbeiten vornehmen um eine einwandfreie Funktion herzustellen. Wenn man da nicht weiß worauf zu achten ist kann man leicht an den Weichen verzweifeln deshalb halte ich sie für Anfänger nicht geeignet. Als Einsteiger würde ich auf LGB oder Piko Weichen zurück greifen, diese sind deutlich günstiger und funktionieren nach meiner Erfahrung immer sofern sie richtig eingebaut werden. Man muss sich keinesfalls auf einen Hersteller beschränken. Das Schienenprofil ist genormt und zwischen allen Namhaften Herstellern kompatibel! Meist unterscheidet sich nur die Optik der Schwellen bei einfachen Gleis Stücken. Um Geld zu sparen kann man auch gebrauchte Gleise auf eBay kaufen, nur bei Weichen wäre ich vorsichtig, die kaufe ich persönlich immer nur neu. Durch falsche Handhabung durch den Vorbesitzer können bei Weichen Beschädigungen auftreten die man mit Bildern alleine nicht erkennen kann, deshalb Vorsicht!
