Beckett had her reasons. She was still recovering from getting shot, ptsd over the sniper shooting her and GUILT she felt over Montgomerys death add into thr mix that Castle admitted that he loves her . It's a LOT to take in especially still in the phases of recovery, letting her wall come down and finally talking to a therapist about how her mother's death impacted her. Doesn't mean Kate didn't feel the same way, she just needed to HEAL emotionally, physically, psychologically and mentally before she could FINALLY let her wall come down with Castle!!!!!!
Besides Castle was a JERK in this episode. Instead of asking her if she remembered everything after the shooting he acted like such a child. DON'T ASSUME CASTLE JUST ASK HER ABOUT IT!!!
This is actually the best written character development plot ever. Like I've seen so many shows but none match the plot they have here. I'm still impressed everytime i watch it. It's just perfect, all the events not too early not too soon just perfect.

She was truly awful for had been lying to him about not remembering anything about when she was shot the look on his face when she told the truth in the interrogation room you could see how hurt Castle really truly was and Beckett was so slow she waited years to tell him how she felt about him but at least he didn’t waste time he actually told her he loved 💕 her but she was stubborn for not telling him the truth right from the start when she was shot!!!!! You could clearly see he stopped trusting her in this scene but i was glad she earned his trust later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this was written my any man living in the real world he would have left a note on her desk that read “I know you remember, Castle” and walked away and never returned.

I just feel like if she had said something like "I do remember what you said but right now im now prepared or in the right place right now but I feel like soon ill be ready to deal with it in the mean time will you wait if your not I will understand" then this would have been alot better for both of them.
Also... People who have not experienced a life altering event do not understand the infinite time it takes to heal or function. They give a finite timetable that is usually unachievable. Then a sudden smell, sound, trigger, can send you feeling back to stage one. Instead of patience, it is usually met with anger, torment, impatience. Even though it is multiple times for the caregiver, it is a new episode for the patient. It has to be dealt with all over again. Only the ones who have great patience and love, who can see what they are going through and have the ability to work through it, will have success in conquering the situations.
one thing i have always hated about beckett, she is a hypocrite. castle has never turned his back on her but beckett has done it twice, the first one when he was with sorrinson and the second one when she was with demming, she pushed him away . that is what made him decide to leave in season 2 finale, castle always saw her as a partner no matter how many times she pushed him away. it was sad. she even rubbed it in castle's face that she was sleeping with demming with that sharing cab statement. then he leaves and when he returns she blames him for leaving. later she lies to him , strings him on and she expects him to remain. only an idiot can take that much. the season 4 finale when he finally gave up , i was so happy until she showed up at his door step and seduced him. i was so pissed that he slept with her

Dana says- Yeah. I loved this scene between her and "Dr. Worf". Her little mocking Castle impersonation was so cute. Actually, thinking back, I've enjoyed all her scenes with Dr. Burke. I wish his character had been on more in later seasons too.
She has said from the beginning, to get a confession, you press the buttons. She does not want to deal with the fact he loves her. She thinks she has forever with him. She has treated him like a faithful dog. Always coming back to hunt again but then when not hunting, do your own things but stay loyal. Pick back up again. She has not finished her own agenda. She has not finished with her mother's killer, she has not reached command, she is trying to find Montgomery's killers who are attached to her mother's murder, and with all that going on it is hard to focus on training the busy puppy who is a distraction. She is moulding Castle and he is seeing past superficial to a deeper relationship. She chooses deep guys but keeps it disposable, filling a void, but does not want to be deterred from her personal agenda. Castle was right. She crawled inside her mother's death and never came out. It is her white whale. He tried to break through. So for all his personal growth, he felt he could not stand next to her as she held herself back from life, to try to kill herself for her obsession, to what end? He saw that she was going to destroy herself to get the answer. He could not watch and wait for it. She wanted the answer more than him. He could not expose her to enough fun and life itself to get her to stop. That was the last blow. To be rejected or put on the back burner. Not many will follow you to your death in that perilous determination. He would have become another expendible distraction and he was unsure if she would choose him to save his life or the answer. The others already demonstrated they will stop at nothing to keep the secret of her mother's death.

Esposito did not want to date her, but he helped her with the gun and facing her fears because she is a good good friend and way more than a partner and co-worker, she is family. Castle was brought into the family. When you come in to that kind of situation, he was at first just wanting to tap that and conquer her and maybe move on. But she demanded more of him so he became a better deeper him to be worthy of any woman rather than just flings of nonsense and half committal s. But when he became the best him, she was still not ready to replace her obsession which almost killed her. Which is exactly where she was heading and he loved her too much and tried to stop her and save her from herself. But she was not willing to let it go because it was so deep it was like linus blanket and a comfort to her that she thought she could not live without an answer and vengeance. But then how they wrote it at the loft was just wrong. Close but wrong. So then they went down the narrow track and it all unravelled. The cast was having issues and the end was finite. It got rough.
it wasn't about her making him a better a person . It's about the fact that he chose 3 different men before castle , sorrinson , demming and josh . She knew she loved castle but chose to sleep with those men anyway , when she was with demming she pushed castle away , compared josh to castle claiming she was a better man , made fun of him with sorrinson calling him a writer monkey . Yet he broke up with all those men because they were not simply good enough. The reason why she slept with him at the loft is because she realised that she was losing him , she realised that she has caused him so much pain and the only way to prevent him from leaving her side was to sleep with him, when I watch season 4 all her efforts was focused on caring for castle, protecting him and she even risked her badge for him , something the normal beckett wouldn't have done . She realised that she was in love with him, so when he ended the partnership she wanted to do something drastic to keep him . After all. She was the one who hurt him
Based on my analysis castle was the only one she slept with without actually going on an official date with , which means she risked it , castle already knows about her past relationships with other men , and after castle's speech at beckett's apartment, she realised the pain she caused him. That is why she said she was sorry, apologizing over and over again , she seduced him , she knew she was losing him , so she took that risk and slept with him. She didn't want him to leave her side .

So I will remind you as she met him for the 2nd time, which would be our first, that he was at a party signing women's chests, which by the way, did bother his daughter, Alexis, who had to watch it with disdain, while doing her homework at the bar. She was disgusted with the actions but he did not listen, because he was having fun with multiple women fawning over him and throwing themselves at him. These were shallow women who had no substance and no prospect for long term for relationships. But the feelings were mutual for the girls who wanted to get an autograph and a conquest. So, Beckett comes along and his first interrogation from her is, to him, a first date, and she is horrified that the person in front of her, that she was a big fan of and thought highly of, was just a playboy running around, chasing skirts. He was nothing if the guy she had imagined he would have been when she has been a fan for so many years and his writing had helped her cope with her mother's death and had helped her choose the career she was in. Watch the pilot. There are actually 2 pilots. The other one has not aired because they recast Ryan's character, Shamus, and then produced that one. So she is sitting across form him, her whole facade of him going down in flames as he keeps on uttering more and more immaturity and being unhelpful to her case she is trying to solve. She imagined he would jump in and help her, not try to seduce her. So she blew him off and shut him down. "We are done here Mr. Castle.". He had not been summarily dismissed before, or at least for a long time. This intrigued him about 1 woman turning him down. Why? That is what made her special. That is why he persued her, because she was a challenge he had not had in a long time. Plus she was smart and saw a lot through him. He would have to put in effort to try to win her over. But she had already shut the door and was nailing it shut. Tossing her dream of the man away that she held so dear, because her illusion had been burst, and she saw he was without. So she had to just focus on his writing because the man was way less and shallow than she was expecting. Her look across the table was disappointment, increduality, and shattered dreams if getting any help. But there were moments of depth when he discussed how the mind of the killer worked and the dissassociative behavior exuded by the perpetrator, yet called her out and said he did not think she was a deranged fan. So he knew that she was a longtime fan because she knew every book, intimately. So he tried to make it a game to her like a first date. I actuality, her no nonsense demeanor took it as a slap in the face of her and justice. She thought she could solve a case with her favorite writer but he just wanted to play a game. She was sitting across from him at the table, going through the fan mail when he was acting like it was study hall and he was trying to be cute, coy, and charming. She was looking at him with disdain and horror that he could not grow up for 5 minutes and help a murder get solved. He literally asked her what does she do for fun? She had no answer. Because she had no real fun in her life. She was on her way to burn out eventually, because she was damaged goods like he said. He called her out when he read her. She challenged him to read her, thinking he could not see her through all her walls. He read her in 5 seconds. He thought it was a game, and it was at first, until he saw her about to cry at the end of sizing her up. He basically took a bulldozer and ran her over, knocking down every wall in her defense, and cornering the real her. No one, not even Montgomery had gotten through all those levels, and never in a minute and a half. It left her feeling that he saw the real her and he read her so easily. It unnerved her, like what she does to others in the interrogation. She had to compose herself because she did not expect it. He did not even expect that when he won that round, he could see past the facade and saw how quickly he hurt her and so deep too. That is when it was no longer a game. He switched in that moment to helping her. He did not stop being him, stealing her case paperwork, literally, but he decided to help her. He needed to get away from the chaos to see the answer. He had to remove himself from his distraction of hitting on her to be able to focus on the case. That is why he went to the library. He dies research there. Later on, he admits that the New York Library is where it all started when they guy handed him Casino Royale James Bond novel when he was 9. It turned out to be his dad as but we did not find that out until Alexis was kidnapped. He told her she had the wrong guy because the answer was too perfect. There was an underlying deceit that made it a bigger challenge. She was smart enough that eventually she could have figured it out but there are so many homicides she would probably not have had the time to continue down the path to find the real killer because it already was presented to her with a pretty bow on top. The suspect could not defend himself and the overwhelmed prosecutor would have railroaded the case and the public defender is so overwhelmed that he would not defend the client too hard because of the inability to function well with his disability shutting him down. It happens do frequently. They are, sadly, perfect scapegoats. Do they team up, as annoying as it is to her, and he delivers tidbits she missed. The father being sick and dying, the son's business going under, sibling rivalry and unequal treatment as seen by the son feeling wronged that daddy did not bail him out of his debts, but helped his sister more because she was independent and shunned the money, making her own way in the world. So they solved it together, she staying inside the detective training thought of mind, and Castle , thinking outside the the box and sometime embellishing to make the story more interesting and skewering the facts to make a better story. But the fake story instigated a new thought that did lead them toward a solution. Yet he paraded women through the precinct for pictures for the magazine, and the interviews with the journalists, and the womanizing. At the end of the season, they wrote he got back together with his ex and went to the Hampton's to write. She was his publisher as well, from the party where she threatened to demand the return of the advance check they sent him. He was late with his deadline. Beckett made him a better writer, but he was quite the playboy. It is just interesting how you think and do do not judge him or hold him accountable for his actions, when she was about to confess she liked him and the whole gang knew. Montgomery , Esposito, Ryan all called her on it and encouraged her to say so. They all felt dumped when she was too late. Remember how they all treated him when he returned? Cold shoulder and back in the the interrogation room with everyone watching? Getting the apology after no contact. That is what they wanted. And then start again. Ge was parading around his flings and you got mad at her when she developed her own with past or guys closer to her job interests. How narrow the scope and judgement. Interesting. Plus, rent or buy a dvd and listen to the commentaries. It is all there. This is where I learned and filled in the gaps. I had most of it, but the commentaries helped.

Just came across this wonderful series. Heres my take on it. Beckett treats Castle like crap. She constantly criticizes him and lies to him on so many levels. Castle on the other hand teases and flirts with her which she seems to like. But Castle is subjected to seeing her be affectionate with boyfriends. When Castle finds out that Beckett lied about remembering the shooting and him saying he loves her, Castle should have left the situation permanently. Any confident self respecting man would have left such a toxic women as Beckett.
The thing that bugged me about this show was the writers made it so hard!! He's getting married, oh no! He get's kidnapped for 4 months or whatever. They get married finally. She gets poached by the FBI and is in Washington. She comes back, he becomes a P.I. and stops hanging around helping solve cases. What's wrong with these people?? Why do they keep calling each other "Castle" and "Beckett"?? Why not Kate and Rick? What about Babe and Sweetheart? She called him Babe like maybe twice! I called my wife Babe for 15+ years! I never called her by her name and definitely not her last name! Writers are idiots!
they're not idiots. it's a drama show, there has to be drama. and calling each other by last names is just a running gag in all police/crime shows because it's the characters' way of putting an emotional distance between one another.
Because Castle and Beckett ARE their sweet names - names that carry the biggest emotional baggage When hanging on the rooftop for dear life, Kate desperately, instinctively called for Castle, not for some diminutive Rick. Likewise, later on that episode, you have a climactic "What do you want, Beckett?". Rick doesn't need an explanation from some downgraded Kate, but from the fully-fledged woman named Beckett. If they had Rick-ed and Kate-ed each other from the very beginning, then Babe or Sweetheart would make sense. Otherwise. no. As a matter of fact, Beckett did that from the very beginning/ Remember the pilot (ep.1x01)? She already calls him Rick once or twice ... but that was an insult at that moment, like in Rick-the-drunken-playboy-hotshot.

Honestly the show was better because of the ladies. None of the ladies brought the show down. But some of the male roles were boring and lackluster. Castle wouldn’t have lasted a full season without Beckett. Castle just wasn’t that good of a character. When they chose to not have Beckett return it was awesome that the fans said no way.
I would be upset too but I understand her. When you can't make the first step, you need the man to say it again so you can say "yes". And going through what she was going through, she did not know how to react and did not want to appear vulnerable. When she did agree to be vulnerable with him, she told him she wanted him.

She was truly awful for had been lying to him about not remembering anything about when she was shot the look on his face when she told the truth in the interrogation room you could see how hurt Castle really truly was and Beckett was so slow she waited years to tell him how she felt about him but at least he didn’t waste time he actually told her he loved 💕 her but she was stubborn for not telling him the truth right from the start when she was shot!!!!! You could clearly see he stopped trusting her in this scene but i was glad she earned his trust later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She did the same thing when she was dating demming, she rubbed castle's face in it , sharing a cab comment meant she was sleeping with demming

Also... People who have not experienced a life altering event do not understand the infinite time it takes to heal or function. They give a finite timetable that is usually unachievable. Then a sudden smell, sound, trigger, can send you feeling back to stage one. Instead of patience, it is usually met with anger, torment, impatience. Even though it is multiple times for the caregiver, it is a new episode for the patient. It has to be dealt with all over again. Only the ones who have great patience and love, who can see what they are going through and have the ability to work through it, will have success in conquering the situations.
one thing i have always hated about beckett, she is a hypocrite. castle has never turned his back on her but beckett has done it twice, the first one when he was with sorrinson and the second one when she was with demming, she pushed him away . that is what made him decide to leave in season 2 finale, castle always saw her as a partner no matter how many times she pushed him away. it was sad. she even rubbed it in castle's face that she was sleeping with demming with that sharing cab statement. then he leaves and when he returns she blames him for leaving. later she lies to him , strings him on and she expects him to remain. only an idiot can take that much. the season 4 finale when he finally gave up , i was so happy until she showed up at his door step and seduced him. i was so pissed that he slept with her

Dana says- Yeah. I loved this scene between her and "Dr. Worf". Her little mocking Castle impersonation was so cute. Actually, thinking back, I've enjoyed all her scenes with Dr. Burke. I wish his character had been on more in later seasons too.
She has said from the beginning, to get a confession, you press the buttons. She does not want to deal with the fact he loves her. She thinks she has forever with him. She has treated him like a faithful dog. Always coming back to hunt again but then when not hunting, do your own things but stay loyal. Pick back up again. She has not finished her own agenda. She has not finished with her mother's killer, she has not reached command, she is trying to find Montgomery's killers who are attached to her mother's murder, and with all that going on it is hard to focus on training the busy puppy who is a distraction. She is moulding Castle and he is seeing past superficial to a deeper relationship. She chooses deep guys but keeps it disposable, filling a void, but does not want to be deterred from her personal agenda. Castle was right. She crawled inside her mother's death and never came out. It is her white whale. He tried to break through. So for all his personal growth, he felt he could not stand next to her as she held herself back from life, to try to kill herself for her obsession, to what end? He saw that she was going to destroy herself to get the answer. He could not watch and wait for it. She wanted the answer more than him. He could not expose her to enough fun and life itself to get her to stop. That was the last blow. To be rejected or put on the back burner. Not many will follow you to your death in that perilous determination. He would have become another expendible distraction and he was unsure if she would choose him to save his life or the answer. The others already demonstrated they will stop at nothing to keep the secret of her mother's death.
the fact is that castle should have given up on her a long time ago, she caused him too much pain to contemplate, when he finally gave up i was happy and then the next thing i know, she seduces and sleeps with him. i dont think she deserved him, she never deserved him.

But she demanded more of him so he became a better deeper him to be worthy of any woman rather than just flings of nonsense and half committal s. But when he became the best him, she was still not ready to replace her obsession which almost killed her. Which is exactly where she was heading and he loved her too much and tried to stop her and save her from herself. But she was not willing to let it go because it was so deep it was like linus blanket and a comfort to her that she thought she could not live without an answer and vengeance. But then how they wrote it at the loft was just wrong. Close but wrong. So then they went down the narrow track and it all unravelled. The cast was having issues and the end was finite. It got rough.
it wasn't about her making him a better a person . It's about the fact that he chose 3 different men before castle , sorrinson , demming and josh . She knew she loved castle but chose to sleep with those men anyway , when she was with demming she pushed castle away , compared josh to castle claiming she was a better man , made fun of him with sorrinson calling him a writer monkey . Yet he broke up with all those men because they were not simply good enough. The reason why she slept with him at the loft is because she realised that she was losing him , she realised that she has caused him so much pain and the only way to prevent him from leaving her side was to sleep with him, when I watch season 4 all her efforts was focused on caring for castle, protecting him and she even risked her badge for him , something the normal beckett wouldn't have done . She realised that she was in love with him, so when he ended the partnership she wanted to do something drastic to keep him . After all. She was the one who hurt him
Based on my analysis castle was the only one she slept with without actually going on an official date with , which means she risked it , castle already knows about her past relationships with other men , and after castle's speech at beckett's apartment, she realised the pain she caused him. That is why she said she was sorry, apologizing over and over again , she seduced him , she knew she was losing him , so she took that risk and slept with him. She didn't want him to leave her side .

So interesting that you ignore his actions and only judges her life. So I will remind you as she met him for the 2nd time, which would be our first, that he was at a party signing women's chests, which by the way, did bother his daughter, Alexis, who had to watch it with disdain, while doing her homework at the bar. She was disgusted with the actions but he did not listen, because he was having fun with multiple women fawning over him and throwing themselves at him. These were shallow women who had no substance and no prospect for long term for relationships. But the feelings were mutual for the girls who wanted to get an autograph and a conquest. So, Beckett comes along and his first interrogation from her is, to him, a first date, and she is horrified that the person in front of her, that she was a big fan of and thought highly of, was just a playboy running around, chasing skirts. He was nothing if the guy she had imagined he would have been when she has been a fan for so many years and his writing had helped her cope with her mother's death and had helped her choose the career she was in. Watch the pilot. There are actually 2 pilots. The other one has not aired because they recast Ryan's character, Shamus, and then produced that one. So she is sitting across form him, her whole facade of him going down in flames as he keeps on uttering more and more immaturity and being unhelpful to her case she is trying to solve. She imagined he would jump in and help her, not try to seduce her. So she blew him off and shut him down. "We are done here Mr. Castle.". He had not been summarily dismissed before, or at least for a long time. This intrigued him about 1 woman turning him down. Why? That is what made her special. That is why he persued her, because she was a challenge he had not had in a long time. Plus she was smart and saw a lot through him. He would have to put in effort to try to win her over. But she had already shut the door and was nailing it shut. Tossing her dream of the man away that she held so dear, because her illusion had been burst, and she saw he was without. So she had to just focus on his writing because the man was way less and shallow than she was expecting. Her look across the table was disappointment, increduality, and shattered dreams if getting any help. But there were moments of depth when he discussed how the mind of the killer worked and the dissassociative behavior exuded by the perpetrator, yet called her out and said he did not think she was a deranged fan. So he knew that she was a longtime fan because she knew every book, intimately. So he tried to make it a game to her like a first date. I actuality, her no nonsense demeanor took it as a slap in the face of her and justice. She thought she could solve a case with her favorite writer but he just wanted to play a game. She was sitting across from him at the table, going through the fan mail when he was acting like it was study hall and he was trying to be cute, coy, and charming. She was looking at him with disdain and horror that he could not grow up for 5 minutes and help a murder get solved. He literally asked her what does she do for fun? She had no answer. Because she had no real fun in her life. She was on her way to burn out eventually, because she was damaged goods like he said. He called her out when he read her. She challenged him to read her, thinking he could not see her through all her walls. He read her in 5 seconds. He thought it was a game, and it was at first, until he saw her about to cry at the end of sizing her up. He basically took a bulldozer and ran her over, knocking down every wall in her defense, and cornering the real her. No one, not even Montgomery had gotten through all those levels, and never in a minute and a half. It left her feeling that he saw the real her and he read her so easily. It unnerved her, like what she does to others in the interrogation. She had to compose herself because she did not expect it. He did not even expect that when he won that round, he could see past the facade and saw how quickly he hurt her and so deep too. That is when it was no longer a game. He switched in that moment to helping her. He did not stop being him, stealing her case paperwork, literally, but he decided to help her. He needed to get away from the chaos to see the answer. He had to remove himself from his distraction of hitting on her to be able to focus on the case. That is why he went to the library. He dies research there. Later on, he admits that the New York Library is where it all started when they guy handed him Casino Royale James Bond novel when he was 9. It turned out to be his dad as but we did not find that out until Alexis was kidnapped. He told her she had the wrong guy because the answer was too perfect. There was an underlying deceit that made it a bigger challenge. She was smart enough that eventually she could have figured it out but there are so many homicides she would probably not have had the time to continue down the path to find the real killer because it already was presented to her with a pretty bow on top. The suspect could not defend himself and the overwhelmed prosecutor would have railroaded the case and the public defender is so overwhelmed that he would not defend the client too hard because of the inability to function well with his disability shutting him down. It happens do frequently. They are, sadly, perfect scapegoats. Do they team up, as annoying as it is to her, and he delivers tidbits she missed. The father being sick and dying, the son's business going under, sibling rivalry and unequal treatment as seen by the son feeling wronged that daddy did not bail him out of his debts, but helped his sister more because she was independent and shunned the money, making her own way in the world. So they solved it together, she staying inside the detective training thought of mind, and Castle , thinking outside the the box and sometime embellishing to make the story more interesting and skewering the facts to make a better story. But the fake story instigated a new thought that did lead them toward a solution. Yet he paraded women through the precinct for pictures for the magazine, and the interviews with the journalists, and the womanizing. At the end of the season, they wrote he got back together with his ex and went to the Hampton's to write. She was his publisher as well, from the party where she threatened to demand the return of the advance check they sent him. He was late with his deadline. Beckett made him a better writer, but he was quite the playboy. It is just interesting how you think and do do not judge him or hold him accountable for his actions, when she was about to confess she liked him and the whole gang knew. Montgomery , Esposito, Ryan all called her on it and encouraged her to say so. They all felt dumped when she was too late. Remember how they all treated him when he returned? Cold shoulder and back in the the interrogation room with everyone watching? Getting the apology after no contact. That is what they wanted. And then start again. Ge was parading around his flings and you got mad at her when she developed her own with past or guys closer to her job interests. How narrow the scope and judgement. Interesting. Plus, rent or buy a dvd and listen to the commentaries. It is all there. This is where I learned and filled in the gaps. I had most of it, but the commentaries helped.

Just came across this wonderful series. Heres my take on it. Beckett treats Castle like crap. She constantly criticizes him and lies to him on so many levels. Castle on the other hand teases and flirts with her which she seems to like. But Castle is subjected to seeing her be affectionate with boyfriends. When Castle finds out that Beckett lied about remembering the shooting and him saying he loves her, Castle should have left the situation permanently. Any confident self respecting man would have left such a toxic women as Beckett.

The thing that bugged me about this show was the writers made it so hard!! He's getting married, oh no! He get's kidnapped for 4 months or whatever. They get married finally. She gets poached by the FBI and is in Washington. She comes back, he becomes a P.I. and stops hanging around helping solve cases. What's wrong with these people?? Why do they keep calling each other "Castle" and "Beckett"?? Why not Kate and Rick? What about Babe and Sweetheart? She called him Babe like maybe twice! I called my wife Babe for 15+ years! I never called her by her name and definitely not her last name! Writers are idiots!
they're not idiots. it's a drama show, there has to be drama. and calling each other by last names is just a running gag in all police/crime shows because it's the characters' way of putting an emotional distance between one another.

Likewise, later on that episode, you have a climactic "What do you want, Beckett?". Rick doesn't need an explanation from some downgraded Kate, but from the fully-fledged woman named Beckett.
If they had Rick-ed and Kate-ed each other from the very beginning, then Babe or Sweetheart would make sense. Otherwise. no.
As a matter of fact, Beckett did that from the very beginning/ Remember the pilot (ep.1x01)? She already calls him Rick once or twice ... but that was an insult at that moment, like in Rick-the-drunken-playboy-hotshot.

Honestly the show was better because of the ladies. None of the ladies brought the show down. But some of the male roles were boring and lackluster. Castle wouldn’t have lasted a full season without Beckett. Castle just wasn’t that good of a character. When they chose to not have Beckett return it was awesome that the fans said no way.
