I think that the finals of the King of the Ring 96 tournament is more memorable for the “Austin 3:16” promo and also, if Jake didn’t allow himself to be overwhelmed by his demons, he could have been a respectable midcard talent, feuding and putting others over and he could also enjoy a decent midcard title reign. I wonder, what kind of shenanigans would happen in 1999 if Jake the Snake got the gig as the Higher Power?
Jake Roberts is one of the best talents that the WWF ever produce. He is one of the best talkers in wrestling history. Today's wrestlers need to take notes on how to cut a promo.
Have you ever seen that special promo that Jake cut on Hogan (which I believe only aired in Canada) back in February 1987? That's still one of my personal favorite heel promos he ever cut.
Dropping the Hogan program may have hurt Jake in the short term because he didn't get those big paydays, but it might have saved him in the long term. Because he turned face, Jake was allowed to become a big star and have some great feuds with the likes of Rude, Andre, DiBiase, and Martel, and it gave him a lengthy run. If he had feuded with Hogan, he would have been fed to him and that would have been the end of him.
If there was ever a better example of someone who doesn't need a belt to become a legend, it's Jake Roberts. Sure, he could've been a decent IC champ, but he didn't need to be.
Four questions 1. Do you think Hogan and Jake could have held the wwf tag titles ? 2. Do you think we should have had A WCW ome night stand ? 3. And do you think big show could have work in the territory days ? 4. And what do you think of judgement 2002 and its theme ? P. S. Your one of my favorite youtubers.
1st thanks; much appreciated 1. No because thrown together teams/top guys didn't win the Tag Titles back in those days 2. No; unlike ECW, WWE wanted to put down WCW & keep it down 3. He would have worked way better in the territory days than when he came up 4. It had some good matches
The program with Earthquake, James, started Jake's heel turn. In fact, it started what I like to call a PG version of The Attitude Era in 1991. The darker elements of what the WWF explored that year, however, didn't really translate too well to the mainstream WWF fans. But it did show, by what Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, The Ultimate Warrior, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, Miss Elizabeth, Hulk Hogan, Paul Bearer, The UnderTaker, and Sid Justice did in that period, that more complex programming could be made...just not in 1991. But by 1996, the WWF was ready then, given how society around the company changed. So, I do have to thank those 8 mentioned above for being the prototype for something cooler later on. You think that's true, James?
To be fair, wrestling in the states took a nosedive in popularity across the board starting in 1991 & going until the summer of 1996; known as the wrestling recession Had nothing to do with what was going on on the show; it was just the wrestling bubble burst
@@WeAreProWrestling Yeah....that's true. I guess I came in too late, James, as a fan, because I started paying attention to pro wrestling on a weekly basis about 3 weeks before WrestleMania VII in March 1991. But I was also 9 for the majority of that year, a few months removed from leaving a foster home situation, and was still trying to reset my brain as much as I could. I'm just hoping no one holds my arrival time into the fold against me. =S
Question 1. what title do you think he should have won and if he won the tag team championship belts who would have been the one to be a great partner 2. your reaction to partner up with people he feuded savage, Steamboat 3. big bigger biggest feuds me big Steamboat bigger savage biggest ted Dibiase
1. I don't think he needed any title; but if they were gonna put 1 on him, probably the IC Title. As far as Tag Title's go; he wasn't a Tag Team wrestler & they didn't have makeshift teams be champs back then 2. Team Savage from Series 87 looking back is kind of crazy considering the 3 main members all feuded with one another over the prior year 3. Big DiBiase, Bigger Steamboat, Biggest Savage
That neck injury he suffered in 1987 really hampered his WWE career, and I believe he would have won the Intercontinental championship that year from Honky Tonk Man. The only other year he would have had a chance to win gold would have been 1990 against Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam instead of Kerry Von Erich🤷♂️
Kerry was a replacement for Beefcake, who was the original plan until his 4th Of July accident For Jake to have been in that spot instead they would have had to rush finish the Bad News feud & rush start something with him & Perfect; all along scrap the Martel program that would have started in the Fall
@@WeAreProWrestling Yes, you are correct sir, I just think It would have been awesome to have Jake as the IC champion feuding with Mr. Perfect over the title instead Of Kerry. Just my own thoughts lol.
2 questions, one related to feuds, the other related to promos. 1) Gold ringbell and brown ringbell for his feuds (in his first and 2nd runs)? 2) Looking back at his promos and how he is now managing the "murderhawk monster" in AEW is Jake's promo style the most versatile and "plop in any era" (I don't know the term so I apologize) of any talent in the history of the business? For me it is. By the way I swear Jake's luck was as bad as the demons he was dealing with outside of the business, especially related to Grizzly Smith (if that VICE documentary is true).
1. Best feud was the Savage feud from late 91 through early 92; with the 86 Steamboat feud a close 2nd 2. Jake's promo style would work in any era of pro wrestling
I can see where the Sinister Minister (especially when he was doing his Disciples of the new church faction) got his tone inspired by, if it was inspired by Jake Roberts. Just... the definition of chilling.
james favorite match of jake Roberts summerslam 88 vs Hercules blindfold match vs rick martel vs andre the giant Wrestlemania 5 trilogy matches with ted Dibiase moments DDT brother love, throwing the snake on andre the giant fake being drunk and ddt Jerry the king Lawler
Jake the Snake was on the verge of winning the 1996 King of the Ring tournament but a foul mouthed rapscallion called Stone Cold beat him and used his win as a starting point for his own rise to glory

Should the big Jake Roberts vs. Rick Rude match have happened at SummerSlam 1988?
They should have had a match at that inaugural Summerslam
Jake's biggest moment was when he turned heel and had that intense feud with Randy Savage which saw him slap miss Elizabeth

The Snake Pit Match against Steamboat from The Big Event

What the hell was up with Demien at SummerSlam 1990 in that pre match promo?
Proving the old showbiz adage never work with animals
But in all seriousness I have no clue why Damien #417 was trying to choke Jake
I will always like jake the Snake Robert the wrestler in wrestling my favorite wrestling match wrestle the million dollar man was wrestling matches
Would Jake have won the WWF Title if that feud with Hogan happened?
No; he was never gonna win the WWF Title off of Hogan had their feud in 86/87 have taken place
james favorite match of jake Roberts

41 years old is not old today Brock Lesnar is 45 and Bobby Lashley is 44
Age only matters in wrestling when they want to make it a big deal; but it shouldn't matter
Jake the Snake was on the verge of winning the 1996 King of the Ring tournament but a foul mouthed rapscallion called Stone Cold beat him and used his win as a starting point for his own rise to glory
Most wrestling seem to barely remember Jake's time wrestling down in Mexico for AAA
IIRC, Jake was a substitute for the injured Mark Henry at Survivor Series '96.
Also, yes, Jake is the greatest to never win any title in WWE history.
