  • WotC's new statement is a vast improvement in communication, but doesn't touch on the key issues that make OGL 2.0 so terrifying for third party D&D content creators.

I'm still pretty much done with them barring a clear and vocal confirmation that 1.0a is left alone. Until I see that they get nothing from me.

    It's not a better response...it's a better trap.

I am a DM and my heart goes to all content creators who I wholeheartedly support. I hope the new OGL is created based on feedback from the community so that in the end everybody is happy. I believe what the community is asking is not going to happen i.e. the old OGL to remain since One DND and 5e are intended to be compatible so Wizards will not allow content creators to create content based on the old OGL for 5e thus circumventing the new OGL. The old OGL was written more than 20 years ago, so many things have changed since then so it is quite normal to be revisited based on the current situation and when this happens the community reacts like you have returned home to see that your mum has thrown out your kids toys and you start screaming about your teddy bear. Guys you are freaking grown men and women, maybe for once be a calm and collected individual then a raging teen full of burning rage against the corporate machine ( yea, it is totally the first time in US history that we see corporate greed, has never happened before). Can someone explain if DnD is considered an IP? If I understand it correctly if I create a board game/PC game based on Batman/DC or create toys for this game then I have to pay the company that owns the IP royalties but if I play this game on my youtube channel I don't have to pay anything. As far as I understand Wizards have walked back some of the bat shit crazy things from the OGL but their future plans seem that they consider themselves an IP ( somewhat) and want some royalties from content creators which I guess I can see their point here but the content creators who have made significant money from their product so far without paying anything ( only to the DM guild) are crying like a toddler when someone says game over pay up now things are changing. Guys there will be new OGL and the old one will be gone so there must be some kind of compromise so that as we say where I live "the wolf is full and the lamb is whole as well". This hate and rage will only negatively impact the hobby and will possibly create a Gate for new people and this time we will be the gatekeepers. Back in early 2000 nobody from my gaming friends believed that a time will come when we will pay to play a PC game on a monthly basis instead once but WoW proved us all wrong so if someone wants to pay more to play DnD and have access to all kinds of goodies and OneDND is his/her first taste of role playing games who are we to disrupt this for the future fans, do we have the right to mess up the future fan's experience of DnD because we feel entitled to our own changing reality? I believe we can be better then this, but the community is yet to prove me right.

At this point, nothing they say counts. They need to fire Chris Cox, fire Cynthia Williams, replace Cynthia with someone from the D&D or MTG design teams, and get both teams some seats on the Hasbro Board of Directors. Until all of those things happen, I will never patronize WotC or Hasbro again.

Its a smokescreen. Are you norwegian/ norsk forresten? 😆 Skal fortsette med D&D men dempe kjøp av matetiell, bruke de penga på Pathfinder + 3rd party skapere som Drakar och Demonar/ Drakes and Demons ( Dragonbane ) som er svensk ( swedish ) 🍻

They still want to change the OGL, they used nicer tone, but are unwilling to change their path

I suspect this 'apology letter' is just the first draft... a better 2.0 'apology letter' will be out later

The most frustrating part of all this is that there are so many fans and players who are still holding out hope that Hasbro and WotC will somehow change. The saying goes "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Anyone who believes ANYTHING WotC or Hasbro says about this is delusional, and has no one to blame but themselves when people start losing their rights to these greedy scumbags.

I don't trust them as far as i can throw an owlbear. I already have all the official books i need, so i NEED nothing from them, i already cancelled my DnD Beyond sub, i hope that as Cynthia Williams rides the fiery debris of the DnD comet into the ground they come to realise that they need us far more than we need them...but i doubt it.

No ads on the video, but alright then. I'm not concerned about views, my friend, I'm concerned about my livelihood. My dayjob is writing books, not shooting videos.
