  • @Smokealotapotamous
    @Smokealotapotamous 7 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    the z06 has always been a 427 NA in the past and its supercharged now and still called z06. why is that different for z/28?

    • @L61cavalier
      @L61cavalier 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Smokealotapotamous I think it's because two different teams build those cars and it looks like the camaro team cares more about tradition the the corvette guys, in my opinion that is.

      Smokealotapotamous good question maybe there is a new z28 in the works An they are just being super secretive. I feel like if they say the z28 is the track king of camaros then it's gunna have to be something that can beat the times of this zl1 1le which is going to be a hard task.

      The C5 Z06 actually had a 347ci, NA motor. Corvette also has a methodology of bringing the performance levels down to the next model since they built the C5s. In this regard, it allowed them to create a new, higher performance level for that same model for the next generation. I.e. Base C6 performs like C5 Z06; now the new C7 Base performs like C6Z06, etc.

    absolutely gorgeous car...heard that the ''standard'' ZL1 runs 11.1...the weight savings here vs the added aero should balance it out..either ZL1 is hot...if you want drag racing, go standard ZL1 with 10 speed auto and a set of DR's...easy mid 10 second car...great job on this.

    When they released z28 for the fifth gen the main difference between it and the ZL1 was how much the thing weighed. The sixth gen SS already shed about 200 pounds from the fifth gen, assuming the ZL1 did lost close to the same amount I can understand why they couldn't break out a Z28 for this gen yet

      Crazy_Android_64 this isn't a muscle car. This is a track car...hell the regular ZR1 isn't even a ,uscle car and neither is the SS or SS1LE. They're sports cars. GM isn't worried about trying to compete with MOPAR. They got bigger fish to fry as in BME,AUDI,LEXUS, MERCEDES and Ford is the onlt a,wrican competion GM is worried about. They have better things to do than w0be wprried about a one trick pony car. GM has the COPO which will crish anything MOPAR has to offer. Don't get me wrong i love the Hellcat and MOPAR but they have nothing to offer to make GM go back to the drawing board.

    Okay so this one is 3 seconds faster on the track but how many times are the car owners gonna be on the track? what is it 0-60 and a comparison of this and zl1 in a drag race? That's what I want to know

    • @ThisGuyDrives
      @ThisGuyDrives 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Who gives a FUCK if you go to the track? You know what's really fun? Taking street corners at 50+ without even trying!
      FYI, far more people go to the track than you think. Otherwise, how do tracks stay open? People must take their cars there, right?
      Chevy was also smart because with the 6th gen Camaro's, if you break it on the track, it's still covered under warranty. As long as you keep it stock of course. No one else does that.

    • @Ivan_Magana
      @Ivan_Magana 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @user-mc3ik5rp7v
      @user-mc3ik5rp7v 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      agreed. Whilst lap times on circuit tracks certainly give an overall view of a cars abilities, and are a good measure for what all a given car can do, i'm more interested to know how it runs in the real world where most of us drive daily. l've heard some say this car is still slower in a drag than the hellcat and upcoming demon, but i guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

    • @user-mc3ik5rp7v
      @user-mc3ik5rp7v 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sleepybird09 yeah if someone just wants to do drags there isnt as much need to get the extra 1LE stuff, like you said throw some drag radials on it and use the saved money for w/e else.

    You know, when I was in my 20s, a top of the line Camaro was within reach of the average consumer. What happened? Now, these cars cost so much money, it's absurd! Who can afford a decked out ZL1 @ $75K (after doing some extreme negotiations)? The answer is, none of us that used to be able to afford such a car. Furthermore, who really believes an American made muscle car is worth more than $50K? As if anyone can even afford that! So, bottom line is, the only people who will own a ZL1/1LE are those who make north of $100K a year and the idiots who get talked into a car payment they can't afford. I live in Chicagoland, so, you think I'd see tons of Camaro's on the road, but I don't and the ones I do see are the bottom line V6 model (why bother?). It's no wonder these car companies have to be bailed out every 10 years or so. When I was 26, I bought an IROC-Z Camaro and the payment was nothing major. Now, forget it! In the past 8 years, prices have doubled.

      Deanthony Hardison - "Work harder"? LOL! Well, I don't know you, so I'm not going to assume anything, but frankly, I don't know many who could keep up with me, or handle the hours I've put in over the past 30 years. I've learned lessons, such as, not wasting money and going into debt for something that loses value the second you buy it. You call it being a "crybaby". I call it, knowledge and experience telling me to not be talked into paying absurd amounts of money for a piece of metal on wheels. Some people need to grow up and learn. Thanks for your input.

    The Z/28 was always NA? Hasn't the Corvette always been front engine?
    My overall impression of this car was pretty good. However, I just can't justify getting this over a Vette.

    • @racer774
      @racer774 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Z/28 has always been N/A since it's 1st iteration in 1967. There were prototypes in the late '60s as well as the late 80s of mid-engined Corvettes. --- There are good reasons for some to choose the Camaro over the Corvette. My kids are grown so you can guess which one I chose even though the Camaro's rear seats wouldn't offer much more people space anyway. The ZL1 is an awesome car even without the 1LE package. Hell, it already comes standard with the most critical aspect of the 1LE package, namely the magnetic ride. UPDATE: I just discovered an interesting page which lists something I had forgotten. Not just a mid-engine design in the early '70s and late 80s but also a Wankel rotary engine in the '70s model. WOW! We dodged a bullet with the last part of that '70s idea. Rotary engines are cool but unfortunately they are not reliable enough for daily driven vehicles (for long). Here is a link if you are interested. www.heacockclassic.com/articles/corvette-concepts-and-prototypes/

    • @onegaisti
      @onegaisti 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll actually take back my previous statement here based on another video I saw on the ZL1. The car is awesome and really delivers. Rotary in a Vette? Never heard of that and yes we did dodge a bullet. Those motors are gas-hogs as well. Thanks for sharing.

      Brian Samuels no need for 10 gears . 6-7 at most is fine. Its all about gearing if u are worried about mpg. 10 speed is overboard i see no point in it , better tech in the trans is great for shifting is great. But more gears i see no point. 10 gears will never be needed .

      When you are buying a Camaro you aren't buying it for it's interior. You are buying it for the performance. That is all. If you want to buy something GM that has performance AND a upscale interior, then you buy the CTS-V or ATS-V.

    Well done video, very informative. As for the 1LE package, how many drivers are EVER going to push a ZL1 to its limits on the track? I'm guessing no more than 5%, so, that means the 1LE package would only be of use to those few. Just my 2 cents.

    So the only 1LE differences were the aerodynamics (splitter/dive planes), carbon fiber wing, and the tires? I love the car but that's not worth 10k. Going from (my) SS to the regular ZL1 having a supercharger and a boat load of minor updates, THAT may be worth it if you have the $$$

    Great video. Gotta admin I was bummed to find out that the test mule we've all been seeing those videos of wasn't the newest Z/28 like everybody thought. That said, this car looks like it's going to be an absolute monster at the track. But supposedly there's still a future Z/28 in the offing, and it will have an all-new engine. I've read a few rumor-mill articles saying Chevy is in the finishing stages of creating its latest naturally aspirated V8 - the LT6. It's supposed to be a 4-valve, dual overhead cam, aluminum block motor that will make over 700hp, and will debut in a 2019 Z/28. That's what I've heard anyway. We'll see...

    On the street, the "regular" ZL1 will be better because the ride comfort of the magnetic ride control suspension will be much more livable than the stiff, race-focused DSSV adjustable suspension on the ZL1LE. I'm not sure if I could live with the rough ride of this new one in a daily driver. If you're not going to regularly track your car (if ever), you're better off getting the non-1LE variant. Although, I do much prefer the stance of this one. But we'll see how the production version ends up sitting.

    LT4 like the LT4 in the corvette? whats the point of putting the same engine in two different track cars?

    • @racer774
      @racer774 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Viro - Uh, the point? It is apparently working and even better, considering the cooling issue has been solved. Your question is a bit silly. The overwhelming majority of car manufacturers have shared engines amongst their models for almost a century. Since you apparently don't know, in 1969, both a Camaro and a Corvette were produced. Each of them are VERY rare. To muscle car collectors AND those in the know, they are commonly referred to as the ZL-1 Camaro and ZL-1 Corvette. Each car had identical all aluminum 427 cubic inch engines. Of the 69 examples produced of the Camaro, they are generally sold for between $350,000 and $500,000 at present. There are only 1 to 3 known examples in existence of the ZL-1 Corvette so their price would be somewhere in the stratosphere of million$ of dollars. Here is a link containing a fair run down of the ZL-1 and ZL1 Camaro's history.

      CrysisHalo2015 They want it to be a driver's car. It won't be as fast as any auto, but it requires all of the driver's attention and skills. Same reason why the GT350 is only manual as well.

    In the past, the Z28 was just a little faster version and was still driveable. It was kind of like the Audi "S" models or the Mercedes "AMG" models. To make it a stripped track car was a horrible idea and they couldn't sell them. It shows how they are clueless about how to capitalize on the name Z28 and clueless about much more, as they recently failed as a company altogether.

    • @racer774
      @racer774 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Recently? Is 8 years recently to you? Those loans were repaid in a year and a half. You are probably too young to remember when Reagan bailed out Harley-Davidson (via tariffs) and Chrysler/Dodge via huge loans. All 3 companies have been doing quite well since they received the help. Now, what happened to Jaguar and Rover? No British loans so they were sold to other countries. Currently, those two brands are owned by China. NEXT.....

    i find it hard to believe that a manual only zl1 1le is faster than a 10speed auto zl1 at the drag strip....

    • @racer774
      @racer774 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They didn't say that and it won't be. The 1LE ZL1 is 60 lbs. lighter in weight but with a 6-speed manual, it will NOT be as quick at the drag strip as an A10 automatic ZL1. I prefer the manual even if it is a tick slower because I enjoy being more 'involved' in my driving.
