  • Review on the known issue with the Smith and Wesson MP .22 Compact thread adapter.
    I broke the wrench that came with the gun on my first try of loosening the thread adapter. I called the customer service number for S&W and explained what happened and they immediately shipped two new wrenches to me and apologized for the trouble. (I was impressed with the service they provided, and the professional manner they handled this situation.)
    New wrenches arrived within a few days and they had advised of how to go about using them to ensure it wouldn't happen again. I followed their instruction and it worked perfect.
    Small issue, but you cannot field strip this gun for cleaning if you can't get this thread adapter off.

    This clip was the most helpful out all the ones I looked up. I purchased the wrench and adapter and I used a mallet. Very easy. Thanks a lot.

    Thanks for this video. My OE thread protector appears to have been installed with a type of thread Lock (white substance). I had to use a small set of vice grips to break it loose. Then the wrench was able to unscrew the rest.

    ...VERY helpful...thank you...trying to get the adapter off a retired Marine Major's (he's 86 or 87) pistol....can't find my Kroil so I used another type of penetrating oil..nothing, IMHO, is better than Kroil...so this may be a long job...I'll call S&W tomorrow for a wrench.

    Gonna pick one of these up sometime next month and I heard about the adapter problem. You saved me a rise in blood pressure and some cursing, which I seem to do when things that should be easy aren't. Can't wait to practice with the gun and save some money shooting the cheaper ammo. Thanks for the tip Jeremy.

      So glad to help you out. That was frustrating. Other than that, this is an awesome little gun for plinking. And the suppressor makes it even better!!

    I bought a $3 10mm wrench from HD. Put it on my bench grinder and ground the sides down until it was narrow enough to fit the notch. I did need to use a file to widen the gap slightly, and bevel the edge a tiny bit.
    That was strong enough to get it off without breaking.

    Jeremy, thanks for the video. I broke 3 of the wrenches try to get the dang thing off. Finally took it to a gunsmith I know and he was able to get it broke loose. Question I have is do I need to keep this adapter on the weapon or can I just leave it off? TIA

    Hey Jeremy I noticed you chipped some of the paint trying to close the slide lock. I noticed this because I unfortunately did the exact same thing! Did you by any chance paint over it? If yes, can you recommend me anything to touch it up? Thanks so much!

    I just received my Compact and the threaded piece was only on finger tight. Maybe the manufacturer has actually seen video's like this and made corrections to their manufacturing process.

    It’s a common issue for any metal that threads together that constantly heats up and cools down. The threads actually stretch and contract with the temperature and sometimes a little unevenly if it’s 2 different metals. Ask any auto mechanic about removing O2 sensors, exhaust manifold bolts or EGR valve pipe. I bought an after-factory adapter which uses an allen wrench (hex key) that goes in the end to remove it. Google it. So much quicker and easier.

      Jenny Talbert what is the wrench called exactly so I may google it. Or if you do a favor and share a link of the one you got please.

    I do not understand this. What is that piece at the end of the gun and why do you have to take out that piece? And use a wrench? Does the gun come with that piece at the end of the gun and does it come with a wrench?

    • @jeremyminter1283
      @jeremyminter1283  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xyz Sing
      That piece allows a suppressor to be attached. Yes, it comes with a wrench to take it off.

    • @xyzsing4038
      @xyzsing4038 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeremy Minter ok. Whats the ttechnical name of this piiece? Can you shoot the gun without removing it? But why do you have to take it off?

    • @jeremyminter1283
      @jeremyminter1283  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Xyz Sing
      I do not know what a technical name would be. It is the threaded adapter. You do not need to remove it often. I enjoy breaking my guns down from time to time for a good cleaning, and you cannot do this without removing this threaded portion.

    • @xyzsing4038
      @xyzsing4038 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeremy Minter so I will have to remove this on brand new gun before doing the cleaning and after shooting the gun I will have to remove this before cleaning every time?

    • @jeremyminter1283
      @jeremyminter1283  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Xyz Sing
      You do not need to remove that piece very often at all. Just when you want to do a deep clean. You can use a bore brush to clean the barrel and other methods.
      Once you take that piece off the first time, it is real easy each time afterwards.

      The Smith wrench is worthless. I used a bike wrench called ParkTool. I believe it is obw-4, it is 3mm thick and very strong. Check for it on Amazon.

    Now I seen someone come with the adapter and some not is there a way if one comes to the adapter that you could just leave off the adapter and put the cap back on to make it flush?
