  • This time on Sally's Speed Shop we head to Indiana with the service truck with plans to revive a 1976 Gremlin that we bought sight unseen from Kevin at @brokengear2476! The car was last on the road in Bon Carbo, Colorado back in 1991. Kevin bought the car and had it shipped to his place just outside of Ft. Wayne, Indiana before selling this gem to us. I roped in my buddy Cale from @camracing to help with this project and drive one of the vehicles back to Georgia with me should we be able to get the little Gremlin running. Stay tuned for plenty of surprises including the biggest mouse nests I've ever seen as well as mouse turds for days! The story of this little Gremlin that could is far from over so stay tuned for Parts 2 and 3 of a legendary revival and adventure with this quirky automobile!

    Brings back some memories, had a 73 with the 258 in HS, 75-76. Then built a 74X with a buddy in college years, bit more spicy, lol ! We got a blue printed 401 (that we ended up mounting an 8-71!). With a Doug Nash 4 sp, Team Strange quick change, a cobbled wishbone ft end... Far too much fun, 9.2 / 142+ for quarter mile times! Back when it was fairly cheap to go racing. Thanx !

    • @Derf1313
      @Derf1313 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was! Even more on the street, folks in Michigan didn't think an AMC had the hp, lol! & The quick change was amazing for street/strip changes. Used a water injector for premium on street, aviation fuel at Martin US-131 dragway... Without wheelie bars it could be a 2 wheel monster, but rarely drifted much (unless ya hit moisture! Lol). They transfer very well off the lights (def had the rear suspension tweaked & custom, for the day...). Good luck with yours, I'm sure it'll give ya lots of possibilities! Thanx !

      I used to do all my own work on my cars. Nowadays they make it so difficult you have to take 100 pieces of plastic off the top of the motor to get the one spark plug. Cars today are designed so you have to take it to a mechanic. All the special tools you need it's ridiculous. By the time you buy every toy you need for your automobile you can open your own auto shop

    Get yourself a can of cheap Walmart paint. Take the paint can lid off of it. The paint can lid fits perfectly with the filler spout of the gas tank. Drill a hole in the center and screw in a male nipple. Connect to the air hose and let her blow. He will squirt pretty quick! We always use diesel fuel to wash out the gas tank. Specialty cars going to sit for a while and if you're going to trailer at home. This will bounce the diesel fuel around and help clean the tank as well. You guys are doing a great job. Thanks for bringing back my gremlin memories

    If any viewers really want a nice gremlin or another AMC car, I can get them for you. Mexico has a lot of completely stock AMC type cars. The Hornet type car Mexico had has some really cool roof lines that were not available in the US. As a bonus a lot of them were stick shift cars. Also there was a Mexico only car called the Lerma and I know where a few are for sale. Also Also I can offer door to door shipping.

    I know that this sounds crazy, but I'd LOVE to have a Gremmie. I'd yank that inline six and swap in either a Neon SRT4 engine, or a fully built 4g63t with a standalone engine controller, FULL bolt-ons for the engine (including a much larger turbo), and have an adapter made to mate it to a Nissan CD009 six speed manual. I'd replace the front seats with racing bucket seats like NRG or something, I'd remove or recover the rear seats, I'd get a new carpet set for it, I'd get a full array of aftermarket gauges, and I'd replace the steering wheel with something aftermarket. I'd also address the entire suspension, the braking system, and I would sand the ENTIRE car down and spray paint it as nicely as I can. I think it'd make for a cool little road race car.

The sleuthing out of the niggling problems is marvelous. Occasionally janky, but it gets the job done. That job is: more fun road trip adventures! The seat belts on my 74 Gremlin had to be connected to start the car! It was a safety thing that proved to be ridiculous if you needed to start the car and escape a bad situation. Tossing a damp rag under the seat caused me grief when it shorted out the seat belt system. I think that's what your wire issue is.

In 1978 I removed the anemic 6 cylinder and replaced it with a mildly modified AMC 360 with a 727 chrysler automatic. I beefed up the suspension but not the brakes. It's kinda unbelievable. The car lived at 6,000 ft above sea level for the past 32 years, in Bon Carbo, Colorado. That probably had something to do with it.
