    1 way we can create more emotion in our lyrics is how we structure them means howvwe say something is more imp then what we say ,so what we are saying something is the lyric themselves ,how we're saying it is the lyrical structure
    (Songwriting is all about emotions,we write from an emotional place & connect with the listener on sn emotional level & structure is a way we can communicate emotion,so the audience feel it too)
    2:Basic element of structure that can help us to cause emotion
    (Rhyme type, Rhyme scheme, Line length,Amount of lines in a section)
    3:First get clear about the emotions that you want to communicate by putting them into 2 basic categories (positive | negative) positive will include anything upbeat & positive like happiness or confidence ,but when it comes to structure it would also include neg statement made with certainty & neg will include longing ,sadness or anger but also positive statements ,questions made with uncertainty like never mind I'll find someone like you
    (It really depends on how balanced or unbalanced the emotion or message of your song is to begin with but play around with these four elements & see what difference it makes to the feeling of your lyrics & you can mix & match until it feels right)

    I love the way Tony takes a tool like balance and shows you how to apply it with his examples. Fantastic lesson! As a side note Tony, it seems like Song Analysis is a fantastic habit for the songwriter as we can learn so much from other peoples music. Would love to know if you have a template for your Analysis? Rhythm is one of the first things I analyse in other songs, and Ive recently become proficient in transcribing Rhythms. Its a game changer!

      Cheers Keith, glad you found it useful. I usually look at the things mentioned in this vid as well as types and sequence of imagery, plot, song form, melodic motifs and repetition, contrast, phonetics. it's easy to get lost in analysis. I find it best to pick one or two things you find interesting in a song and play around with them in a creative way. When you say rhythms, are you talking lyrical rhythms? it's a great tool for vocal melodies. so many great vocal melodies have strong rhythms these days.

      @@SongWritersChopShop Yes, easy to feel daunted and get overwhelmed with analysis. I think focusing only on one thing like lyric rhythm is a great way to remove much of the weight or friction that a word like Analysis can sometimes imply. thanks

      That's it exactly keith, it's all about how you apply and experiment with techniques you learn in your own creative work. For me, analysis is just a way to learn new tricks to play with. 😀

    The problem I have writing is lyrics that are cheesy sounding which people like Taylor Swift get away with. I am talking about rhyming words like go with know and basic stuff like that. One of the reasons why I love Mariah Carey’s style of writing is because it rhymes without being forceful and corny.

    • @SongWritersChopShop
      @SongWritersChopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think we all feel like that sometimes. but don't just assume your lyrics are cheesey because they rhyme, it might be right for the song. A couple of things you can mess around with are, 1. try different rhyme types. i've done a video on the different types you can use...th-cam.com/video/-iKdn6rsTFI/w-d-xo.html . 2. use different rhyme schemes. I see in the lyrics you posted, line one rhyms with line two and so on. try things like, line one and three doesn't rhyme with anything, line two and four rhyme with each other. 3. you also don't have to use end rhymes, have a look at this video th-cam.com/video/cjzoE_Xpzrg/w-d-xo.html . Hope it helps, goodluck

      @@SongWritersChopShop I agree and sometimes cadence can make the lyrics less cheesy but some of the stuff is just too cheesy and too on the nose. Take Taylor’s Me for example. I mean, come on! When she was writing it I bet she thought it was so wonderful. Lol.

    • @LVishere
      @LVishere 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the lyrics I posted. I was showing an example of not being too rhym-y and cheesy. Each line connects with the other in a way so even if you were to change the rhyming words it still made sense to the overall idea of needing someone deeply. I don’t think it’s good to try to force a line to fit like the whole dove and love thing, unless it feels natural.

    • @SongWritersChopShop
      @SongWritersChopShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LVishere I totally agree. if I have to force a line to fit, then it's most likely the wrong line. for me, i find using vowel sounds and alliteration keeps the lyrics sounding like they all belong together while taking the pressure off the end rhymes. that way you can really play around with rhyme schemes, plus metaphor and wordplay so the lyrics are not too 'on the nose'. but as you say it really depends on the song.

    We vowed death do us part
    But now we’re oceans apart
    I feel so cold
    Boy, I miss you so
    And I can’t let go
    And I want you to know
    You’re all I live for
    All I have
    ‘Till forever
    Good or bad
    Everything that I adore
    Baby you’re all I live for

    Are song consider better or unbalanced?

    • @SongWritersChopShop
      @SongWritersChopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's no better or worse. It's all about the emotion and attitude at the heart of the song. Using balanced and unbalanced elements in a song can create tension and release that supports the emotion you are trying to get across.

    Lol. "Now I know" does NOT rhyme with "its all so cold", in any way.

    • @SongWritersChopShop
      @SongWritersChopShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the vowel sounds match and the consonant sounds after do not, this is known as assonance rhyme. When the consonants add extra sound to the end of a rhyming word it is known as an additive rhyme. So "know" and "cold" do rhyme. The point of the example is to unbalance the structure to reflect the emotion.
