First was Jaws, about a year and a half ago and since then they've completely overtaken my taste in music. Cannot describe the emotions this band creates.
In 2021, my first exposure to sleep token was because i was listening to new music on shuffle on spotify. It was the song "Higher", i thought it sounded weird but still saved it. In 2022, Sleep Token made a cover of a song called "Is it Really You?" by Loathe, I liked the cover and actually started to listen to them. (Heavily recommend on listening Loathe too)
I was actually surprised I'd never heard of Sleep Token until seeing this blow up all over the place, its 100% the kind of music I always listen to and they really went with the "what kind of genre is this band: yes." kind of vibe and I'm here for it. Having listened to most of their other music now, I'm a fan
Would truly love to hear some other bands you could recommend that sound like them? It's not a knock by any means but I listen to a lot of music from metal to growing up in the grunge era to even rap and soul music. But this band is one of the few that really shows they are influenced by so many genres and I hope it's not to try something new for the sake of it because it's amazing. They really can blend across so many genres on one album (cover of hey ya wtf) and I can't think of any bands that are so diverse. This is coming from someone who loved them since sundowning but I don't think they are the most amazing band out there. But definitely love them especially summoning...anyways hope we can share some other bands other than Loathe which I think is saw already. Thanks!!
@Noman Broman Not the same at all, but it definitely doesn't play by the rules. Maybe check out Mr. Bungle. I found the album Sweet Charity by them, and I'm in love with the weirdness.
Literally just heard this song for the first time about an hour ago. This is my 4th listen now. Wanted to listen "with" somebody. The middle with the subtle piano being introduced and slowly brought to the front of the mix just before the end of its phrase was the first thing that really caught my ear. That piano is wonderful! Fucking wonderful
The drummer from sleep token is the most talented drummer I have ever heard, I listen to plenty of metalcore and things of that nature and while they're extremely talented something about the drummer of sleep token is just insane
just worked at their Birmingham, UK show a couple of days ago; I thought I was tripping thinking it was a unique mixture of genres but, I guess it really is
That start to finish is insane. That last minute and a half was so funky. But i think it worked. I think its my favorite part of the song. This band takes you on a journey in every song. And you have no Idea where you will end up. Glad you got to experience it.
The transition at the end puts me in the mind of Jinjer's Who's gonna be the one. The ending of that song was also not expected. Complete opposite ends of the musical spectrum. Love the seductive vibe of this one. The drums are sick af!
I only discovered Sleep Token recently and I love most of their stuff, but one of their newest songs "Aqua Regia" just blew me away. It's a beautiful composition in a completely different genre than this one. I'm sure you would enjoy listening to it.
Tony's reacts are really on another level, the only one I'll actually listen to because he's so much more analytical than the rest. Would love to see an analysis on Ascensionism or Take Me Back to Eden
I usually get lost in prog metal, because its so self indulgent... but sleep token knows how to make it feel like slipping into a warm bath. Truly a unique band
If you want some other songs to show their variety I highly recommend Jaws for a crazy showcase of their drummer (also my personal favorite), Hypnosis, The Offering, When the Bough Breaks... there's so many more but those are the ones that I highly recommend to start with.
Others have said it but you're going to want to catch a live version of The Offering and one of the drum play through videos on their YT page for sure.
I heard this song was a bit of an inside joke. These guys end with big metal breakdowns as a rule as I understand, here they took that and slotted it into the midsection, and for the end instead went to where Breakdowns origonated, 60s funk. ....I think
you HAVE to react to ‘Hypnosis’ An offering from II. Dude is literally playing in a tunic because que couldn't play in more pockets that he already is.
If you dig the sound you heard circa 2:55, the search term you want is "djent". On a relate note... has anyone thrown you a Meshuggah recommendation yet?
I love when music has switch ups after a bridge/interlude section, but to me(my opinion don’t crucify me) that ending was so far removed from the main motif it was kinda odd. And someone correct me if I missed it but there was no call back to the initial groove either so not much tie in. Idk man, I definitely can’t say I dislike it cuz it still sounded hella nice. But almost like a different song entirely it’s a bit confusing to listen to. And who knows maybe that was the effect they were going for. Definitely interesting tho!
You should definitely do final fantasy 7 boss theme and air buster theme from final fantasy 7 remake back to back. These are the same but air buster is the remade/rearranged version. Curious what your thoughts are on both as the original was very limited by the ps1 hardware.
Great reaction! Loving new sleep token. Check out Periphery for some tasty drumming and all around badassery. They just dropped 2 new songs. Both are great. (Wildfire and Zagreus)
BROTHER, ANOTHER SOLID INTRO LOL but yeah dude sleep token is heavy shit! great song, and as a drummer i really appreciate your breakdowns man Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska is a freakin robot on the kit. i know you did 40 roll from him, but his band oceans ate alaska has some really nice tunes. strongly reccommend.
This song got me going, man. Just incredible. You should check some new stuff by Bring Me The Horizon too. Metal/Pop punk band with a lot of interesting elements. Can You Feel My Heart, Teardrops, Kingslayer... a lot of cool songs.
⏩ Video Question: What is the first Sleep Token song that you heard?

I don't know if you appreciate Paradox live (japanese music project) - there are very cool singers involved! I would be very grateful!
The Offering
Was a Hypnosis cover by Will Ramos. Checked em out after and like them decently enough but the new stuff they putting out is on another level.
It's no surprise why this band went from 280K to 1.39M monthly listeners in like 2 weeks
Now that's impressive ngl
Now more than 2mil

I found them legititmately 2 days ago and I cannot stop listening to them.
I envy both of you for having all of their material to digest. I fucking love this band and can not wait for this new album.

LANDMVRKS!
6:52 “I prefer the funky stuff”
Funky outro: “I don’t know how I feel about this”
😂
@drumrolltony "I don't have the words to describe [...] but you wanna fight somebody?"
It's a breakdown. The word you're looking for is a breakdown.
Now that you’ve got a taste of the drummer’s talent, should definitely check out that Drum Play-through! It’s a real treat.
Second this, II is a beast.
Then you'll like a lot of their other music. Tons of piano
Same here it’s so fun to see othered reaction to cool ass shit 😂
The drummer from sleep token is the most talented drummer I have ever heard, I listen to plenty of metalcore and things of that nature and while they're extremely talented something about the drummer of sleep token is just insane
dude's got a tasty drum playthrough of I Would Like by Zara Larsson that was really good too
He's definitely talented and up there but I wouldn't say he's the most talented
Look up Aaron Kitcher. best drummer alive currently
II has been named as Adam Pedder he has a channel on youtube, he's fucking sick
Only drummer that compares to me in the similar “metalcore” genre is Nic Petersen from Northlane, dude is fucking nasty on the drums
"Very wild piece of music" is the only way to describe everything Sleep Token does. They take you on a journey.
Hearing you say "I dont know how funky" at 3:22. My initial thought was "You better wait till that sax comes in"
Sax? What sax? : )
just worked at their Birmingham, UK show a couple of days ago; I thought I was tripping thinking it was a unique mixture of genres but, I guess it really is
starts loud and aggressive, ends slow and mellow. this music is great
Gotta do more of these guys. Higher, Alkaline, The Offering, The Night Doesn't Belong To God.
Higher & jaws turned me onto em early on
I'm glad someone's actually recommending TNDNBTG i feel like that one goes under the radar most times
@3:16 That's a breakdown, and entire genres are created around that for some real caveman music 😂❤️
Best band of today…hands down! I recommend listening to everything they have😊
That start to finish is insane. That last minute and a half was so funky. But i think it worked. I think its my favorite part of the song. This band takes you on a journey in every song. And you have no Idea where you will end up. Glad you got to experience it.
This is the best way to describe what you're reacting to musically, to another musician and/or artist...
I love how the producer layered the guitars in the heavy bit made it sound so full and chaotic.
The transition at the end puts me in the mind of Jinjer's Who's gonna be the one. The ending of that song was also not expected. Complete opposite ends of the musical spectrum. Love the seductive vibe of this one. The drums are sick af!
I’m so glad to see you reacting to this, this song is an absolute banger!
I only discovered Sleep Token recently and I love most of their stuff, but one of their newest songs "Aqua Regia" just blew me away. It's a beautiful composition in a completely different genre than this one. I'm sure you would enjoy listening to it.
Hell yeah sleep token is awesome, I've been obsessed with tem since they dropped the album Sundowning
Saw the live debut of this track, never seen a more hyped crowd in my life
The drumming is always amazing, but in Alkaline it really really stands out
Hey man, been a fan of yours for a while now, and I'm a huge sleep token fan. Really glad you're getting to check them out!
the drummer did a drum playthrough of their song 'Hypnosis', i think you'd enjoy checking it out!
You could replayed that breakdown 5000 more times and it would have been just fine lol I love Sleep Token
Everyone needs to prepare for the music this band is creating. Straight GENRE BREAKERS. Creating a whole new style and the mixing is PERFECT!
You are good at this Tony. Keep it up bud!
The drummer vessel 2 has some drum play through videos. I highly recommend them.
The name is actually just "Ii."
III and IV are the other members you don't see often, but definitely during the concerts.
Seconded.
Tony's reacts are really on another level, the only one I'll actually listen to because he's so much more analytical than the rest. Would love to see an analysis on Ascensionism or Take Me Back to Eden
Nice!. Sleep Token, what a band.
"It makes you wanna fight" :D
Check Out Baard Kolstad's performance on "The Sky Is Red", one of the best "drum play" i've ever seen.
You pausing is the best part, no need to apologize lol
Thanks 🤟
Love love love it bro!!
Been around for a few years, this band is musical geniuses
That funky syncopated thing is called Djent! After the sound the guitars make. Djent djent djent, djent djent djent (like Gent with a harsh G)
I usually get lost in prog metal, because its so self indulgent... but sleep token knows how to make it feel like slipping into a warm bath. Truly a unique band
sleep token has some drum playthroughs for two of their songs. I recommend both. if I remember correctly there is not vocals on those videos.
If you want some other songs to show their variety I highly recommend Jaws for a crazy showcase of their drummer (also my personal favorite), Hypnosis, The Offering, When the Bough Breaks... there's so many more but those are the ones that I highly recommend to start with.
You should check out their drum playthrough of the song Hypnosis! It’s an instrumental version of the song, but I’m sure you wouldn’t mind
Def need to check out the offerings from II. All of them. It’s incredible.
Others have said it but you're going to want to catch a live version of The Offering and one of the drum play through videos on their YT page for sure.
Requesting again for you to listen to the drum playthrough of Hypnosis by this band! It's awesome!
I get ehen they bring the funk some get turned off, but I love it. It's also the reason they blew up.
You need to watch their drum playthroughs! All on their TH-cam channel. I recommend Alkaline. Fills for days!
I think you'd appreciate their song "Chokehold" You should definitely check that one out!
So you now should watch Hypnosis drum playthrough. It's soooooo crispy and amazing:) This drummer is yes!!!!
Amazing stuff and - sound awake.
check out the drum playthru from sleeptokens song hypnosis. fire!
If you want to hear some truly amazing drum work react to their song Hypnosis
Very interesting composition on this song.
I heard this song was a bit of an inside joke. These guys end with big metal breakdowns as a rule as I understand, here they took that and slotted it into the midsection, and for the end instead went to where Breakdowns origonated, 60s funk. ....I think
They have a drum play through of hypnotize that would will enjoy if you like the work of vessel 2
you HAVE to react to ‘Hypnosis’ An offering from II. Dude is literally playing in a tunic because que couldn't play in more pockets that he already is.
You need to watch their drummers playthroughs
If you dig the sound you heard circa 2:55, the search term you want is "djent". On a relate note... has anyone thrown you a Meshuggah recommendation yet?
2:10
He already mentioned djent if you listened 2:09
I love when music has switch ups after a bridge/interlude section, but to me(my opinion don’t crucify me) that ending was so far removed from the main motif it was kinda odd. And someone correct me if I missed it but there was no call back to the initial groove either so not much tie in.

The initial Lyric and melody sat over the final section
You should definitely do final fantasy 7 boss theme and air buster theme from final fantasy 7 remake back to back. These are the same but air buster is the remade/rearranged version. Curious what your thoughts are on both as the original was very limited by the ps1 hardware.
you gotta do more
I see that you haven't done anything with Meshuggah. Please take a look at Bleed and clockworks drum cam. There's a beast of a drummer.
Not the same style of music, but I’m sure you would appreciate this suggestion if you see this. Check out Mouse on the Keys - Time (featuring Chon)
Please read to more of their songs, I love how insightful you are 😇❤️
It's like Breaking Benjamin got together with Type-O Neg and The Rippingtons and decided to jam...
Great reaction! Loving new sleep token. Check out Periphery for some tasty drumming and all around badassery. They just dropped 2 new songs. Both are great. (Wildfire and Zagreus)
Please check out the drum play-through for Alkaline or Hypnosis. II is cracked!
BROTHER, ANOTHER SOLID INTRO LOL

great song, and as a drummer i really appreciate your breakdowns man
Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska is a freakin robot on the kit. i know you did 40 roll from him, but his band oceans ate alaska has some really nice tunes. strongly reccommend.

I love their recordings, but I saw them open for In This Moment. I don’t recommend them live.
Fucking please get to "Aqua Regia", "Chokehold" and "Granite".
While I love this track, all of those three give me something more.
