Sorry to hear that CopperChode. No words or condolences are enough to scratch the surface, especially from a stranger. Nothing really makes the grief of bereavement any better, especially when it comes to the the loss of a child. I can't imagine how devastating that is. Powerful, all enveloping music like this is good for the emotions though. It gives you a strong distraction and a pressure valve when the bleakness is overwhelming. The only other thing that helped me was eating really hot chillies! All the best to you.

Amon Amarth actually have a song that you need to check out that deals with the loss of a child, called “The Fate Of Norns” . It is based off an old Norse poem called “Sonnatorek” (or The Irreperable Loss Of Sons). For what it is worth I am sorry for your loss. Keep finding ways to cope with your grief. There are no right or wrong ways to go about it and no time limit either. Every bereavement is individual. I’m glad this song helps, and hope that the recommended song and poem help. I know it is not what you want to hear, but speaking as an ex- funeral director this grief will probably be for the remainder of your life. The loss of a child is as bad as it gets. I know I’m just a stranger on the internet and there is nothing I can say or do to help, just know we do care about your loss.
This song is actually super deep. I’ve been going through some of the hardest times of my life lately and this album couldn’t have come out at a better time. This whole album is reminding me to stand tall and fight through the storm. This has helped me so much, even in just the few days its been out. I dont feel so alone when I listen to these fellas.

Their newer stuff really sucks compared to older but I guess the upside is you get more upbeat tunes that appeal to a wider audience. It's just not what made them great.
Well Amon Amarth is a working class band they all served in the military as far as I know then got into the trades and worked and practiced and paid their dues to be where they are , bless them, they can appreciate the blue collar warrior struggle 👊🏼

I think one of the things I like most about Amon amarth is that they are regular people. No supermodels in their videos. Just normal working class people. They seem like fun guys to get a beer with.
And genuinely appreciative of all their fans at shows. Not like american rock stars. Awesome people who love making kick ass brutal metal. They smile and laugh and have fun.

Have you seen the documentary they made, Pursuit of vikings? It was on youtube but it might have been removed. It was super interesting, they told about how they almost didn't come to be because they had jobs to go to and bills to pay and whatnot. It was only because of a 'happy accident' of sorts when Olavi (he was a construction worker) broke his leg and was on sick leave for six months for it. At the same time Johan got laid off from his job as a truck driver and then they suddenly had the time to write a bunch of songs which (iirc) became Versus the world, after which they started to take off.
As much as I appreciate the effort that goes into the more serious videos, the older I get, the fonder I am of these videos that look like an unused storyboard from a Metalocalypse episode where the band is clearly having a blast goofing off. It says a lot when a band has the will and capacity to make something intended to feel epic in scope, but also isn't above making fools of themselves so everyone can have a good laugh.

Me too. I'm not a big death metal fan but the more enunciation the vocalist has the more likely I am to like them. I avoided Amon Amarth because I thought their vocals would be like most death metal, unintelligible. They're quickly growing on me.
