I had a crack in the exact same spot. Bought a Nissens radiator and it lasted a month before it started leaking. Replaced that one with an oem BEHR radiator for $350. Lesson learned.
Sorry to hear about the Nissens radiator. I'm crossing my fingers that this will hold, time will tell I suppose. If it does fail, I'll make another video and buy an OEM.
I HAD to write something to you as I have the same year car as you, a 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG, which I love. Of course, my car has got to weigh at least as much as a small Manhattan studio apartment compared to your svelte SL500. Your car is so good looking, I can hardly wait to see what it looks like at the conclusion of your project. My car has every bell, whistle, and gadget that the engineers could possibly think of to slap on it, therefore it weighs so much they had to put as much horsepower into it as possible to get it up any hill. Lol! Best of luck!
My OEM grill was also chipping I just got a badass replacement grille on ebay for $150. Chrome. 1 bar instead of 4 and nice looking chrome mesh. Looks great you should look into that
nothing is wrong with fixing it this way!! For those wondering why not buy abnew radiator, I d say, When you have a flat tire, do you plug the tire or throw it away and get a new tire?!! Sadly, it was Mercedes who introduced Plastic Radiators!!
@@klowenstein483 free. But I would look for someone who is near by. Or I can send you a link to hardware and a soft, so you can get a complete set for yourself. If you want to clear out the VMAX completely I can suggest you any transmission firmware that will do that and adjust shifting for your transmission. It will be much cheaper than gasoline that you will burn.
@@pfoxhound You’re right about the gas but at this rate it doesn’t matter. if you can send a link to where I can get a star diag non-Chinese clone that would be great I’ve had no luck in the last few years of searching all I want to do is raise top speed to 187 code out pre-safe and the white ABC light in my 03 S55 digging into the transmission is above my pay grade I’d rather not do that at this point I have no problem driving that far to give you a couple bucks for looking out, let me know!
Check your transmission connector. Mine was only 50kmiles and it already transferred some transmission fluid in TCU. Connector is 10$, and about a quarter of fluid.

As a dedicated Mercedes You Tuber this procect was nice to find.
Thanks for the kind words.
@@pile-o-projects Always nice to see these be saved. CRAZY much car for the buck.

u should just replace all the water hose
Order an OEM radiator and replace it. JB Weld is a temporary fix not a long term repair. That engine is worth it. Why take a chance on overheating.

Any updates on how it has held up? Looking at the same repair on my 03…

Good job 👍
I have the same car in black
Nice.
That is a nice fix. What area are you in? I can lower temperature for the coolant, so the fan can start kick in faster... And disable secondary air...
Can you increase Vmax? If so I’m interested. Location: Florida
@@klowenstein483 yes, but I am in oh.
@@pfoxhound How much to get it done if I drive to you?

Pump for roof is about 600$ to rebuild, each strut ~500. Hydrolics will need attention.
I'm rebuilding same car 5spd swap interior redone everything. Not dealing with hydraulics changing to coil overs

What's the part number?

Don't complain about the price when repairing an expensive car that you got cheap.
If you are complaining about the price you bought the wrong car. SRS light is winking at you.
