*Something about the eas emergy system just scares me. The loud siren, the 2 dollar mic recording quality, everything. It sends waves of chills down my spine, even though the alarms tell you to stay calm. This is true fear, folks.*

i honestly think that the scariest part about the eas (besides the horrifying tones) is how whatever your watching pauses. it puts fear in my heart whenever the tv pauses even for a second because it could be an eas. these are still one of my biggest fears today.

It happens almost all the time on the radio. I used to listen to the radio when I was a little younger, and I used to wake up to Eas tests mistaking them for actual alerts. 3/4 of the time it was a test. Still scared me a lot though

The scary ones for me was 1999,2000, 2002, 2009, 2010, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Also I live in CT and right when I saw the EAS test for CT I could tell right away by how the map was shaped I wish they still had that. And also I remember when I was 6 years old in 2009 and there was an Emergency Alert but there was no sound and it kept flickering back to regular programming which kept doing for like ten or so minutes and it scared me because I didn’t know what it was. Another time was when I was 7 and I was watching tv at 1:30 am and once the EAS went off I covered my ears, I wasn’t sure what it was but it was scary and I couldn’t read all that well so I tried my best at reading but then it left and then shortly later it came back on again and that’s when I went straight to my Mom and in the end I slept in her room.

The First One came from WPST (FM), a Radio Station in Burlington, NJ, which broadcasts near the Philadelphia Market. Used in January 1997, the station is now known as WPEN (A sports talk radio station), as it swapped formats and call signs with 94.5 in 2005. That one was simply was just a test.

Bro, the 2017 one is pure fear fuel. Just the absence of noise or anything as you look at a blank black screen for about 10 seconds, until the text slowly creeps in. You keep expecting the noise but it just never comes and leaves you on edge and your adrenaline high.

1997- First glitch, it played the end alert signal before the operator finished explaining
2000- Second Glitch, it played no sound. The test was a failure
2001- Third Glitch, didn't finish end alert tone
2002- Fourth glitch, no text, alert signal, or attention tone. And the operator's microphone is near inaudible
2006- Fifth glitch, no attention tone.
2010- Sixth Glitch, no attention tone
2011- Seventh Glitch, plays alert signal followed attention tone operator recording and end alert signal twice.
2013- Eighth glitch, alert cuts off midway through text to speech voice.
2017- Ninth Glitch, no alert signal, attention tone, or operator message/text to speech
Ik this is late but for 2002 it was for an army command post so it was not an actual eas activation
1997 was not a glitch. They were testing the *alert tone*
1997 is completely normal. There are post-rolls which is a message proceeding the alert which a station may or may not do

As a non-american (and living in a place without crazy weather) I find these EAS very interesting, like none of them seems to really change over the years. It looks jarring and the audio is horrible (the sirens too) . It might work but informing people about danger doesn't have to be this fear-inducing.
The weather channel tho is REALLY informative at give information about everything. Pollen is something I wish our weather reporrs had on, on a daily basis

The scariest part is when the power surges or goes out right when the alert is being broadcast or right after. That's happened to me multiple times.

I remember seeing the 1999 one in the late 2000s/early 2010s in San Diego County with DishTV. Dont know if it was because it was a rural area but we got severe thunderstorm warnings with it during summer once in a while
