Patrik Marcibányi yes perfect explanation and yet I’m still confused on how to maximize this new mechanic... maybe GGG needs to provide more explanation or maybe I’m just too dumb to understand lol.
@@ThreadClock Continue to connect paths until you have nothing but grey paths that go nowhere. Look at your minuscule inventory, see what nightmare awaits, delete several pieces and pray that you get SOMETHING that leads to where you wanna go. GENIUS! lol
This has to be the least intuitive league mechanic PoE has had yet. Glad to see you get rewarded with a very deep mechanic once you actually figure it out. Great video by the way, helped me a lot!
Fucking THIS! It's infuriating that I have to watch a near 20 minute video just to get a rough idea of what to fucking do. It's ridiculously convoluted.
Remember just how complicated the game was when you first started out? At least it was for me when I tried it on my own. I then spend a few hours watching some starter guides like EngineeringEternity and it made the game a lot more fun to play. So I honestly don't see a problem in this, this is much better than Abyss league or some of the other really plain and simple league mechanics that we have had.
AMAZING video Ziggy! I feel every single exile should watch this before tinkering around with the mechanics. VERY HELPFUL and crystal clear video - cheers mate!
This was really good video. I love when someone explains core league mechanic for me, so i dont have to use braincells to crack the code. TY alot and i hope u keep cracking the league mechanics of future leagues too
That was my first though when I saw this tiny window which only holds a few pieces. At the same time if you had "unlimited" space you would rule out any decision making and build paths with no issues. Also same issue as most of the items in PoE, they have different modifiers so memory elements won't be able to stack.
This is the same as EVERY other league, GGG doesn't want us to get away from maps, so they limit our time spent with the league mechanic. This is literally no different then Sulphite for Delves, Temples for Incursions, Menagerie for Bestiary, This happens again and again, we should all be use to it by now. GGG will NEVER let us get away with not playing THEIR endgame (Atlas)
Yes, it is very un-intuitive. The way you need to activate the memory node twice to "repair/replace" almost seems like it isn't supposed to be possible, if it were you should just be able to toss a compatible or exact piece over it and restore it that way.
@@Braxtonkai True. GGG should make this mechanic more doable. I fail quite few times already as decay and mobs happens so fast that I would rather kill/run or I die or get chucked out.
Was wondering randomly if Ziggy had a video explaining the new stuff yet and there it was, an 18 minute perfect explanation. I actually don't know what we would do without you Ziggy.
Thanks that's very helpful. I didn't know how those memory modifiers worked and usually deleted the path after going through them once, so they wouldn't get in the way. A mistake in hindsight... but oh well. There is one matter I would like to point out, just in case people haven't noticed yet: When you open a portal back to the Memory Nexus, it's not a one-way ticket. You can go back and forth between both ends of the portal as many times as you wish to pick up everything that didn't fit in your inventory.
Thank you Ziggy for diving into the major feature of this league and giving a great explanation for it. Now I may not be the only but, the whole decay process seems like it could be improved and or change to be more friendlier to players. Namely when you have to work on the next memory that is also going to decay and could result in frustration on quick decay of zone while also working on path planning for your connections.
Really nice explanation of the mechanics! I almost wish I didn't watch this, it's as if they try to make these mechanics as vague and complicated as humanly possible. I just want to play the game but this feels like a chore where you spend 50% of your time planning, instead of playing the actual game. You could always just skip this entirely but what's the point of playing leagues then? I sincerely hope GGG takes a step back in terms of how complicated they make their league mechanics for the next league. Incursion was IMO perfect in terms of its complexity but I feel it's gone down hill after that. It's sad because it's clear how much work goes into this but I feel only a small fraction of the playerbase will actually have the patience to really explore this mechanic. I was hoping they would realise this when looking at how many players were killing Mastermind last league, it was not just about the fight being tough.
About mastermind - Yeah, but rather, it was about how unrewarding it was, or rather how punishining. Regardless of win or lose, you just flush all your hard earned progress down the toilet. That progress that count not even hours but days of gameplay is very "expensive", and reward for losing it should be extraordinary, or else it just doesn't worth it. And... rewards not even extraordinary, it's barely better than your usual sindicate raid... awful... when i first did mastermind there wasn't even that reward (no chests from sindicate bosses), i just got several piece of crap rares without even useful veiled mode, and that's all. That was so anticlimatic, that i almost quit the league altogether. P.S. What i wanted to say, mastermind wasn't "complicated mechanic", it was actually the opposite, it was the easiest part of the league to understand. Instead, those who planned ahead to benefit from "complicated mechanic", never run the mastermind, because it just reset progress that was planned withall that hardwork, and basically give nothing in return. If not for that reset, people would killing mastermind whenever they can. That reset was heretical existence of the league, and i don't understand GGG's idea behind it.
I like the intricacies. It makes the game have an entirely different angle. If you don't like this mechanic you can always just play delve or incursion or you could just..... (get gud)
You can skip it easily. I doubt those crazy synthesis mod that they teased is rare as hell. Also i prefer Shaper or Elder mod over regular item most of the time. I couldn't think of a single slot where a normal item + good synthesis mod will be better than Shaper/Elder Mod
You could, I don't know, always just play without the planning. Connect nodes willy nilly and have fun. The more complex mechanic is there if you want to take part. That is your choice. If you choose to do something you don't enjoy, then the blame is 100% on you.
Considering that i am a NEW player in PoE, your explanation is good enough for me to understand from a completely noobish point of view. Thanks a lot. Good vid.
@@zynarax well a lot of players simply copy the meta build of someone else, then use that to tell themselves they are a great PoE player. Thinking is not usually their forte.
@Hatwox Hah, I wasn't even aware people didn't like it till this comment notified me. That's fine, not all people share the same feelings and there are plenty who thrive on being opposed. Nice one bruvva! Makes much more sense now, was really confused about the correct way to place (as opposed to plan) long memory chains, you explained it perfectly though, cheers!

I was so lost, enjoying myself but had NFI what I was doing. Thanks for rescuing us Ziggy with an explanation in simple laymans terms and not Technical Jargon. Now I can go back and try to salvage the mess ive made lol, cheers mate :)
Thanks for explaining the double click trick to keep the nodes alive. Now i am excited for this league. I hope GGG adds an 'auto recharge' button for recently decayed nodes and also has 'suggested replacement nodes' when clicking on an existing node. This will make it much clearer and easier to maintain a path.
I thought I mostly understood the system before watching, apparently I was missing quite a bit of the depth. Thanks for sharing such useful information!
They seem to have decided to take this approach on purpose. The thing is - Incursion was a pretty simply league mechanic, but according to them it had worse player retention than even its predecessor Bestiary (and Bestiary was a despised league). The reason being that it didn't take long to see all Incursion had to offer. So they've switched to much more comprehensive and/or complex leagues instead so people won't feel like they've exhausted the league content for a long time. Time will tell how that strategy works out.
Complexity has little to no part of that equation, though. You can create dynamic and interesting time sinks without massively convoluted systems. Delve is a prime example of this. There's nothing complex about actually doing delve. You just run and kill shit. However, having that option to delve deeper, get better rewards, drove most of my guild to still be playing up till about half a month before league shutdown. This is just a mess of a system with too many moving parts. Perhaps the load might have been lightened a bit by making the crafting part of it worth a damn and act as a buffer before you dig into the actual memory mechanic, but the RNG for fracture/synthesis is the worst lottery I've seen in PoE.
@@JohnSmith-zf3yk Thing about Delve is it's an infinite dungeon. I don't think they want to introduce more infinite dungeons. They seem nervous enough about the one they already have, for a variety of reasons. So that option is off the table, for them at least. So they need to make a compelling non-infinite scaling league mechanic.
They probably reached out to him to make this video after seeing front page of their sub reddit trashing their league. He's already their pre league hype beast
So the "decayed" areas hang around until there aren't any ways to get back into them. So for the quick run throughs you did in the video they'd clear as soon as you stepped off of the bridge in the next zone, no need to actually do any interaction. On the other hand if you've returned to the nexus from a decayed area it will stay until you return to the nexus from some other place. It might also time out after a while but I didn't test that.

And to add a thing that I like to do: On my way to memory modifiers and what not, if I have available memories (and not capped out) I place memories along the path without entering them, just activating them so that they will have the incoming modifiers for their full durations
Rolls new character, lvl2 exit Lion's eye "Oh an NPC named Cavas, I wonder what this league mechanic is?" Opens memory and instantly dies to a billion projectiles. Oooohkay then
Love this league! So nice to see GGG return to an RPG style game mechanic instead of a random card game syndicate. Every mechanic should be about taking us to new/unique zones to fit the genre. That's why people love incursion/delve.
the monster's dificulty depending by fragments used if from what area and what modded has, so the most difficults are the fragments taken from endgame maps and those modded as onslaught or beyonded.
A few questions mate...how is it possible to place so many nodes? I thought the max was ten? Also, how do you choose a destination? What's the difference? Is there an overall goal / destination for choosing a certain direction when placing the nodes? Thanks a ton.
Does they change something in last patch? Stepping in the darkness does not move me to the bridge anymore and just move me back to decayed zone. Its making things much worse, I have to run again all the zones after connecting modifier to get to the node with items :(
If you can't use leap slam as an attack build (because you are using claws or something) I recommend flame dash I checked and it can go through the blue zones and its base cast and travel speed is pretty respectable
How do you deal with the inventory space. If I try to do crazy long paths my bags can't hold stuff and I run out of room and I leave so much on the ground. I tried using the beacon thing to return to the main area but I can never go back. Either the portal doesn't show up to even be able to turn. I try to use it to return and it gets loading zone and I have to alt f4 to fix it or I get to use the portal but it ports me to another completely different tile.
Pretty sure you can TP back to the nexus at the stabilizer nodes, sell your stuff to Cavas and then go back in. I did that in the past and it has worked. Not sure why it doesn't for you.
I also sometimes get stuck not being able to go back, without any clue as to why. Until I know what's going on (or until the bug is fixed, if actually a bug), I won't go back to the Nexus until I'm done with a full run.
thank you!! this is my second league and i just got by in betrayal but this one needs some planing and i couldnt figure it out everything. I thought 18 minutes video was too long but it went on really fast, felt like 5 minutes haha
Might also take note to something that just happened to me. If you go into a decaying node, that have 2 planned nodes, with some juicy modifiers that will be active to all linking maps, there is apparently a chance that one of the upcoming 2 nodes will already started decaying upon starting that area. I missed out on one path due to decaying from start, AND at one of the 2 points i could run to. Don't know if this was a bug, or this is intended. So be aware when planing you ways.
Great guide Ziggy! The Memory Nexus mechanics are confusing. This guide cleared things up. Can you do a guide on the item synthesis? Are the implicits on the synthesized items deterministic or completely random? If they're deterministic, what are they based on? item type and/or existing fractured mods?
Thanks a lot! Get getting the message ”map queue full” didnt understand anything about the maps lol, my first poe season and just started with the game.
Can you share your Bane chaos build tree that your using right now? I tried starting a Contagion / ED build (1st time) but switched to bane cuz Contg / ED was very so slow and clunky for me.
Nice information, very much appreciated. You had a few pointers I hadn't figured out myself :) Though, you say Whirling Blades is not adviced but a jump skill is better. But I run WB and can easily cross the decay with it :) Just thought I'd share that.
Yes, that's the only little downside for me, too. I like the concept etc but this limitation kinda forces me to run the memories when it's full, even if i want to do something else at that moment.
Agreed completely. If you could "place" \lock memories from the map , not just "plan" them a lot of the quality of life issue Ziggy mentions would disappear. Remembering to go back an d place a memory before going to the next one just feels far too clunky.
You can right click remove the memory from Inventory. Doesnt even require placing. By the way, your better off farming 3/4 path memories anyway. If you get a two path, clear it out but don't complete
Incredibly useful, Ziggy, I will immediately try to stack modifiers. A question: If I don't have the correct bridge pathing but I am full on bridge pieces, what should I do?
Ziggy, after you hit the memory modifier node and it decayed, shouldn't you have placed a new node while you were there and activated it? If yes, could you have placed a huge path and run from there, drastically increasing your path?
VERY VERY WELL SAID MY FRIEND I WAS STRUGGLING WITH THIS A LIL DIDNT UNDERSTAND!! the remaining charges left likft if run get reward get on later n like were is everthing but i got late start too this go as well because diablo season was extened and just has 2 challenges left of completing them all n got hooked and made another charater so im just getiing started for this new league and kinda wish id done a lil more research instead of jumpin in and just tryin get few lvls outa the way and learnin it as I went this go and I was kinda right but I kno were I was having my prbs at now thatnks to u and ur in depth vids thanks brother bout to log back on now been offline well not on poe past few days had to have 3 teeth pulled and been in pain and im hopein im gona b able to salvage what mess ive already made of it already and im 37 elementiest witch this round allways play ranger so switchin everthing up.. but really ur a life saver as allways well hopefully bout to see how big a mess ive done made with it and pieces wasted already agervated lol
What you did at 16:12 Where you jumped into the blue area to get back to the bridge when you were in the isle is not really working for me. It just teleports me back to the isle where my only option is to come back to the nexus. Great guide btw!
at about 10:00 min mark about stabilizing path behind you - is it really neccessary? I mean the node is decayed (0 runs left), but it will stay on the map until you port back to center (i think)? So if you get to memory modifier node it should still spread thru decayed nodes?
Honestly, I think the best way to do this is to save up 10 pathways, the max you can bank, then make 1 path off of 1 side that is just 10 long, run it once to connect everything then leave it and let it build up modifiers as you builds off of the other 3 starting pathways. Then go back after insane build up and do the big path.
thanks a lot man been following u for a long time now, and that vid actually helped a lot i was a bit confused from the synthesis , also ive been wanting to make a good bane build , i see that u play bane in the vid, any advice regarding class and ascendancy and what works best ?

Love this league! So nice to see GGG return to an RPG style game mechanic instead of a random card game syndicate. Every mechanic should be about taking us to new/unique zones to fit the genre. That's why people love incursion/delve.
I was needing this video ty
the monster's dificulty depending by fragments used if from what area and what modded has, so the most difficults are the fragments taken from endgame maps and those modded as onslaught or beyonded.
Ziggy for President.
omg ziggy i dont know tha't i was recreating the memories evrytime .....ahhhhhhhhhhh tank you !!!!!!
A few questions mate...how is it possible to place so many nodes? I thought the max was ten? Also, how do you choose a destination? What's the difference? Is there an overall goal / destination for choosing a certain direction when placing the nodes? Thanks a ton.
Thank you so much, for explaining this to me, it isnt so complicated once you explained it to me. Now the craft part :)
Thanks man i knew you had to get to the reward zones but that replacement thing hust changed everything for me
16:58 When the memories hit your nexus
Thanks Ziggy! :D
Thank you. Had no idea what was going on before to be perfectly honest.
Thanks Ziggy! That was really helpful!
Extremely helpful, thank you Ziggy!!!
Thank you for this , and seriously so many of these things need to be explained better
Ty Ziggy. Amazing explanation
Extremely helpful video, Ziggy! Mechanic was definitely confusing me, but no more! >:D
How do you deal with the inventory space. If I try to do crazy long paths my bags can't hold stuff and I run out of room and I leave so much on the ground. I tried using the beacon thing to return to the main area but I can never go back. Either the portal doesn't show up to even be able to turn. I try to use it to return and it gets loading zone and I have to alt f4 to fix it or I get to use the portal but it ports me to another completely different tile.
don't pick up bad things. carry 80 scrolls of id instead of 40 maybe? idk
Its because you cant port back into a decayed node since it only uses one charge, it disappears kinda like using your own portal but one way
@@videosaboutnothing8147 the decaying one makes sense but why will it sometimes port me to another node lol
thank you!! this is my second league and i just got by in betrayal but this one needs some planing and i couldnt figure it out everything. I thought 18 minutes video was too long but it went on really fast, felt like 5 minutes haha
How do you teleport back where you were without burning turns?
i also wonder
Might also take note to something that just happened to me. If you go into a decaying node, that have 2 planned nodes, with some juicy modifiers that will be active to all linking maps, there is apparently a chance that one of the upcoming 2 nodes will already started decaying upon starting that area. I missed out on one path due to decaying from start, AND at one of the 2 points i could run to. Don't know if this was a bug, or this is intended. So be aware when planing you ways.
Fantastic guide. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. Makes things much clearer.
Excellent video mate, thanks!
Always nice, to get some details :D
Thanks alot
Nice information, very much appreciated. You had a few pointers I hadn't figured out myself :)
Though, you say Whirling Blades is not adviced but a jump skill is better. But I run WB and can easily cross the decay with it :) Just thought I'd share that.
Thank you very much ZiggyD, it's very helpful guide!
This was very helpful. Thank you.
Thx! that league just went from being good to being amazing. Even better than Betrayal imho.
The fact that we can only hold 10 and can't lock them without entering the zone kinda ruins this zone building
Yes, that's the only little downside for me, too. I like the concept etc but this limitation kinda forces me to run the memories when it's full, even if i want to do something else at that moment.
If your memory inventory is full and you have a free connector on the nexus you can place any compatible memories and then immediately delete them.
The fact that there are no rare perm pieces and the carry cap is so low killed this content for me
Incredibly useful, Ziggy, I will immediately try to stack modifiers.
Awesome explanation. Thank you.
Thx Ziggy for this Vid, it explains exactly what i need to know about ;) THX dude!
Ty for the explanation ^^ Helped me out quite a bit 👌
You just made me come back to the league. I quit out of frustration. Thanks mate
What skill is Ziggy using to clear? That purple chaos rune explosion thingy?
Bane, it's a new chaos skill that applies linked curses and also a chaos damage over time debuff on the enemies.
What you did at 16:12 Where you jumped into the blue area to get back to the bridge when you were in the isle is not really working for me. It just teleports me back to the isle where my only option is to come back to the nexus. Great guide btw!
Excellent explaination. Thank you.
thanks ziggy, super helpful video.
at about 10:00 min mark about stabilizing path behind you - is it really neccessary? I mean the node is decayed (0 runs left), but it will stay on the map until you port back to center (i think)? So if you get to memory modifier node it should still spread thru decayed nodes?
You are amazing Ziggy! thanks so much for this video... i had no idea what to do =)
Great video, ty!
