I noticed your hardshell tent is on the cab part of the truck. I have a roof rack with basket there and would like to put in over the fiberglass camper shell. I can't seem to find much information if my shell can hold the weight of the tent plus two people ( around 375 lbs). I would guess I really have to beef up the top of the shell first with some fancy rack system.
How was the roof top tent driving down the road with the wind? How does the truck handle? I plan on getting the same setup as yours just recently bought the warrior products roof rack.

It's not too heavy for the canopy but it does put more stress on it and it was easier to mount the rack to the cab as it just bolted in, where the canopy would have to have to have a rail system installed first. Great question.
I bought the next generation of that same tent, in part, due to your great vids. They made a few changes but the gen2 is mostly the same. The next version is supposed to be quite different and should arrive early next year. We're excited to get out and try the new jeep tree house. Thx!

How does having this tent on the roof affect driving? Is there a lot of wind noise? How do you store the tent when not in use? I could not drive my Jeep in the garage with this tent mounted.
No wind noise, it lowered our MPG by 1. We didn't have a garage as we were traveling so that wasn't an issue. I know a lot of people hoist it up to the ceiling in their garage for storage. I would say to get one only if you are an avid camper and you can keep it on your roof at all times. They are expensive and I think a lot of people get them because they are cool and then they don't use them that much. We used ours a lot and then sold it once we were done traveling.
I hate to sound like a critic but for those who haven't seen this yet? SKIP the first 5 minutes unless you just want to see him driving his truck real slow. TENT SET-UP begins as 5:05. ;-)

Pretty cool tent, my wife wouldn't enjoy it but I could handle it for a few nights but I really like my bed and living on the ranch.

That's a pretty dope set up I want to do something similar but I'm wondering why you wouldn't mount the tent on your cap. Is it too heavy for it?
