Some of my favorite moments 4:35:40 YOU FOOOOOOOL AHHHHH!!!! 4:37:05 GET ON IT!!!! leads into my favorite accidental comedy bit that goes until 4:38:22
Also, there is a consistency to the spin jump. If you can kill an enemy by jumping on its head normally, then it will "poof" when you spin jump on it. Otherwise, you ricochet off it. So once you solve the trial-and-error of the normal jump, you automatically know what the spin jump will do.
In an episode of Rosanne, they're playing SNES with the Super Mario World title screen music playing, but they're playing a different game where they're slaying skeletons or something.
The worst part about this video/stream is that it ended. I just want to watch Mike play way more levels from this like the Ice Level & other tough levels he beat were super fun to watch. I'd love to see another long stream of this game.
Sadly, as far as I can see, the 2nd-6th VLDC as well as the 10th VLDC were never released as a compilation hack like the other ones so no bother in looking for it anywhere. It appears that the 1st, 7th-9th and 11th-12th is all we have until today (should they eventually release the 13th one or retroactively release the other ones). Regarding the ice level that bothered you for an hour or so, I do wonder whether the deadly ice and the OK ice were harder to differentiate on your CRT because on the capture I could clearly see which one was the "glowing" ice and which one was the non-glowing one. Game that still needs a link on your GAmes I've Beaten On Stream list: -Zelda II: The Triforce Of Courage (NES Hacks)
The only human soul allowed to enter Heaven with their anatomy intact was Bob Ross. When ever Bob Ross sprayed his Titanium White with his Two Inch Hog hair Brush it is said he could with just a few strokes of his hand beat the devil out of it. Mastering his wet on wet technique even when he extruded his rather thick and oily Van Dyke Browns he avoided becoming an old mud mixer.
found something out today that blew my mind and may be up your alley. someone made a megaman homebrew of 4,5 and 6 and remade all the games in the style of wily wars for genesis called sequel wars. thought worth mentioning since you played wily wars before.
The way spin jump works is that enemies that you can defeat by jumping on them will instantly be destroyed by a spin jump. Enemies/objects that can't be defeated are ones you can spin jump off of repeatedly.
Hey Mike, the reason people can make Super Mario World hacks and Megaman hacks easily is because people designed programs and level editors so we can insert and create assets for the games quickly. We'd need someone to do the same thing for TMNT if we wanted there to be more romhacks.
Random question: Can the everdrive improve the graphics or framerate of the SNES by performing certain functions for the hardware? The only example I can name off the top of my head is the super FX chip, but I know that there are others which were in the actual cartridges.
Top Gear 3000 took notoriously long to be fully emulated, despite not using Super FX chip (it used another proprietary chip if I recall correctly...) So if you're looking for games to benchmark emulators performance, I think that's a potential top candidate
Mike banged the table 20 times. I once banged something with my hand several times when trying to beat boss-mode Sephiroth in the hardest difficulty in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I didn't manage to do it and my hand was bruised for a few days...
Man, is there another retro-game that comes even close to the SMW hacking/modding scene? I know that Super Metroid/Zero Mission are quite popular. Wish that Contra Hard Corps would get some love.
There are some really good Super Metroid hacks and Metroid hacks in general. AM2R is one of the best fan made games ever. There is Super Metroid: Ascent, Super Metroid: Rouge Dawn, Metroid Super Zero Mission. Many other great ones.
im 100% on board with you with new movies, they are terrible, since avengers end game all movies have slowly gotten worse and worse, the last rememberable I watched was 5 years ago, every movie since has been just meh at best
and yes there is in fact a Zombies Ate My Neighbors doom mod, which is one of the few that actually has fully finished maps designed to be played with it 🤘
and if you're looking for Doom maps that are not so "gotcha" gimmicky in design and offer a more balanced evened-out experience, I would recommend these ones: Malevolence, Ozonia, Avactor (it has moments of brutality but it's not a non-stop barrage in your face...) These "easier" doom mods are having a resurgence right now... which I remembered more names
I hope you try out TSRPR rom hack for mario. I’ve seen it on your list. It’s mostly vanilla as in it doesn’t have fancy gimmicks like new items power ups or anything like that but what it does have is excellent level design, music and it’s actually got more content than the original Super Mario World (more levels and exits)
What the fuck?? How did you die at that one part??? 5:49:00 Edit ooh, no spin jumping of course, in a level where you’d really love to spin jump on the fuzzies
OH shit I got from Elden Ring directly onto Street Fighter 6. I haven't played one of these on my emulator in over a year. These vanilla design contests always have great peaks. For that 13th place vote where you jumped into coins on the bottom of the screen, I think you just have to act as if the bottom is shown at the top. Kaizo means something about doing special tricks like silly jump-grab-shellKicks just to get around.
Some rom hacks are not made to add content, but to make minor improvements to the vanilla game. There's two types of hacks, improvement hacks and complete hacks. The hacks you're looking for are complete hacks. Those sprite swap hacks that you mention fall in the improvement/adjustment type of category. I often see you make fun of those kind of hacks so I hope this clears that up. Its a matter of picking and choosing the type of hack for your needs rather than saying one kind of hack is irrelevant. Personally I enjoy improvement hacks and have a ton of them.
Speaking of retro inspired games. Has anyone played Lunacid? Its so good. It will be full release at the end of the month i think. I'm level 70 atm which is max right now. Its basically a first person dungeon crawler, that was inspired by 1994 kingsfield. Fromsoft made it the company who make souls games. Check it out, i got it for really cheap. Didnt think i would like it but ended up loving it. The soundtrack and atmosphere is just so cool. Also if anyone likes zelda ocarina of time, a romhack i came across was by far the best one ive played for OOT. its called Zelda the sealed palace!
Hmm I thought vanilla was supposed to be without using any different sprites but I guess they just mean without any special powerups or other changes like double jump.
Hey Mike, I left a comment about VLDC on another of your videos but TH-cam silently deleted it. I just wanted to mention that the compilation r-o-m-s (I'm trying not to get this comment flagged) are separate from the contests itself - there are only a handful of them, and this 12th one was created unofficially.
I think the community that votes on these stages are swayed by impressive tech over good level design. It's understandable but a little disappointing. A fellow modder looks at one of these stages and probably thinks, "whoa, how did they even do that" and that's how you end up with a billion gimmick levels in a supposedly vanilla design contest...
I wonder if these levels are ranked based on looks and design rather than difficulty. These levels should have at least one mushroom each so that you're not hanging on a single thread. It's bs
You are a great or even legendary Mario player. I watched you try and try on those hard levels and you competed them. AAAAAAAAHHHHHH! The ice level 🧊 the glowing blocks hahaha more like sparkling blocks. Do they even make fizzy ice cubes? 😆
motherfucker!... another classic - TIE Fighter via gog reco... & a troll reco w/ Spelunker on NES - i beat it twice in a row else failed every time, dozens upon dozens of times
I'm 5 hours into this and the more I see, the more I dislike this hack. How about some actual level design instead of overly long, to the point of pretentiously long, levels filled with difficult jump after difficult jump? Or how about levels with game mechanics that are properly explained? It's like that episode of Star Trek Voyager where the Doctor plans on leaving the crew to stay with some aliens who appreciate his singing. At the end, the Doctor finds the aliens have replaced him with a duplicate hologram that solely sings a huge range of notes, far beyond the Doctor's capabilities, composed in technically complex and refined fashion but without any soul or artistry. Admittedly, I do see artistry in the hack's presentation and visuals but that's ultimately surface-level. Anyway, as usual, I'm glad it's Mike playing instead of me.
what's with you and John Goodman, Mike? I am sometimes concerned for your mental health and well-being. Keep making us laugh with your decent into madness. Regards!
I broke my third metacarpal smashing my fist into the wall. It really does help. I had to stop throwing controllers. They’re too expensive now. Especially the DualSense edge.
"Super Difficult Weird Puzzles Insane Levels by Maniacs Level Design Contest" That sums it all up in a nut shell! Maybe add the words pain and torture and you'll be set. Be glad that you never played my Super Mario Maker 1 levels Mike! 😂🤣😭👍
Some of my favorite moments
4:35:40 YOU FOOOOOOOL AHHHHH!!!!
4:37:05 GET ON IT!!!! leads into my favorite accidental comedy bit that goes until 4:38:22
2:31:57 How the hell is Mike’s hand not broken after that?! 😂😂😂
Mikes hands are registered weapons
Hand of steel
I love it =)
Years of throwing hissy fits have conditioned his little hands.
@@eriklarson4082 It's like those Martial arts flicks where they punch wood poles for training

A great concept with great execution, and A great stream. I hope we see you playing more of these.
Easy there Tony the Tiger.
2:18:51 Hahaha sounds like when my immigrant grandmother would get angry. Ah, memories.
The worst part about this video/stream is that it ended. I just want to watch Mike play way more levels from this like the Ice Level & other tough levels he beat were super fun to watch. I'd love to see another long stream of this game.
Im dying of laughter, Mike. Now this is entertainment

1:14:19 I'd call it Bob Ross's ''happy little tree'' rather than a fro.
I was laughing and yelling at my TV for the Chainsaw Way level
55:40 I think Mike's the only person who can say he once put on a Bugs Bunny costume and then accidentally waterboard himself with fake diarrhea.
The only human soul allowed to enter Heaven with their anatomy intact was Bob Ross. Confusing 8am for 8pm is so good ... dude ... =) =D I feel you!!
Love the ranting =) and enthusiasm ... very inspiring =D and funny!!

Honestly, the world map is excellent.
Such a cool concept. I had no idea such a thing existed!
It's bizarre that the first stage used the main theme of Mega Man Zero 4. I think the track is called "Esperanto?"
Fun stream!! Maybe Mario Maker 2 stream again sometime? 😃
2:17:04 Anyone recognize the music from this level, I can’t place it.
20:07 words to live by!
5:18:13 Gold

Well the rom hacking community should do more development of programs for more games.
Watching Mike avoinding the check point door in that third level is painful.
Thanks, VOD master!
4:15:19 Haha this section is hilarious.

For Mike this game is almost as difficult as donkey kong country 1-2 is for me
These levels seem more reasonable than those Kaizo Marios
there was one kaizo level in here. but overall yea
I got burnt out on Mario in the 90's. I know these streams are a waste of life, but hacks amplify the feeling. I never miss a stream.
Gotta love Mario hacks 😉😉
59:07 Mario Land 2 for game boy has the bubbles
Man, is there another retro-game that comes even close to the SMW hacking/modding scene?
I know that Super Metroid/Zero Mission are quite popular. Wish that Contra Hard Corps would get some love.
There are many other games that deserve new levels that don't get any attention.
Nothing will ever surpass the hacking/modding community around Doom.
This is going to be AWESOME! Just tuning in. My friends just had a kitten that died named Autumn. Autumn Zone reminded me of her.
Thanks for doing the SDWPILLDC
There are some really good Super Metroid hacks and Metroid hacks in general. AM2R is one of the best fan made games ever. There is Super Metroid: Ascent, Super Metroid: Rouge Dawn, Metroid Super Zero Mission. Many other great ones.
Similar the Doom Community does from time to time. Some amazing megawads, mostly all based on Doom II came so together over the years.🙂
If Mario had his own Sonic Mania. 😃 Just going off the vibrant colors and lots of things going on in the levels.
That ice level, oh my god I've wouldn't have the patience
Awesome video game play through keep up the good work!
im 100% on board with you with new movies, they are terrible, since avengers end game all movies have slowly gotten worse and worse, the last rememberable I watched was 5 years ago, every movie since has been just meh at best
I was more going for before 1998.
it's a bit counterintuitive because of the name, but the Super Mario Doom mod is called Golden Souls 👍
and yes there is in fact a Zombies Ate My Neighbors doom mod, which is one of the few that actually has fully finished maps designed to be played with it 🤘
oh almost forgot...

wish * typo
This was a great time
The music around 5hr 35min level appears to be from the boat level in Streets of Rage 2
My anxiety is through the roof now lol
chainsaws as an obstacle I can understand, but chainsaws that jump over the air now that's a bit much they have crossed a line 🤣🤣🤣

Super Mike World!
👍👍
LMFAO You can clearly tell who've never used the spin jump in Mario World... It is the same thing. It's just not how you played it.
Yeah I didnt use it much in 1992 either unless it was really needed
Good music
You're right my I should be more having for turtles Another Video games
