Was strongly considering getting this lens to replace both the XF 16-80 and 70-300.In the end, kept the 70-300, sold the 16-80 and added a 16 1.4 and 35 1.4. I also rationalized, that in most cases, it would be one of the primes that would be mounted, as they are light, fast, unintrusive and offer more flexibility for subject separation. I have seen some examples where the 70-300 was sharper than the Tamron, but the Tamron was more than good enough. Someone could definitely save some money getting the Tamron and one prime.

A few weeks ago I purchased a Fujifilm 100-400mm from KEH. I was nervous as heck about the reported "Excellent" condition rating. It arrived, well packed, and I am happy to report KEH is a great place to shop, as the lens is just as described (actually better than described and completely satisfied my expectations). I can certainly see now how you have to adapt to lenses that need more light, particularly variable f/stop as you zoom. It kind of threw me vs. my Fujifilm 50-140 (even more so with teleconverters). I had to get used to it, and even found any "A" auto f/stop, shutter speed and/or ISO a bit tricky for exposure. Thank you for the great review, and the pros and cons of that particular lens.
Super solid review. I've had mine for 2 weeks now, and literally everything you've stated here, is all I've taken away since I broke open the box. Great work!
Fuji seem to have been unusually resistant to giving access to their API so good to see Tamron now being able to release in the FX mount. Didn’t they realise it makes a camera system more attractive to get into if a number of lens manufacturers are producing for the mount ?
I’m pretty sure that they do know, but they also want people to buy Fujinon lenses. There must have been back and forth arguments about whether 100% of a smaller number is worth more than (pulls number out of thin air) 75% of a bigger number. It’s unquantifiable just how much growth a third party ecosystem of lenses will cause on sales of Fuji bodies so conservative business practices will probably stick with what they know. Personally I’m delighted that more lenses are coming to Fujifilm, the 18-300 isn’t for me but I’m excited to see what the future holds.
@@Nayson I think your assumption about Fuji’s strategy thinking is right but what a 3rd party lens manufacturers does is fill perceived gaps in an OEM range and this Tamron 18-300mm. Fuji has a pretty good range of lenses but they don’t cover everything and cheaper options are few and far between. The 18-300mm super zoom isn’t for me (although I did have Tamron 28-300 back in film days for backpacking travel) but when my brother-in-law looked at Fuji to replace his old Canon system he couldn’t see any super zooms or 3rd party so it was one of the reasons why he bypassed Fuji and went to Panasonic. Again, not a decision I’d make but different people have different perceptions about what they need

I think this is the perfect 1st lens, because then after taking thousands of photos, you’ll find out what your favorite focal length is and you can get a prime of that as the perfectly tailored second lens.
I’m not much of a landscape shooter or even a hiker (prefer my city breaks…from living in a city) but I recently went to the Lake District with my 16-55 and really wished I had more reach. I think this might be a purchase for me if I go on a holiday like that again. Thanks for the review!
I need to know if the image quality is comparable to the XF18-135 and the XC50-230. I've been considering the XF70-300 to replace my XC50-230 for more reach, but I've also sold my XF18-135 so this would be a matter of convenience IF the 'IQ' is similar. I don't need fast aperture for a lens of this style. (I have primes for that.)
I've been using my Canon 35-350mm L on an adaptor with my XE-1 and XM-1.... no problems encountered This Tamron doesn't have a tripod collar, and so it's a bit unstable on a tripod.
Love when you put out new videos man. Tamron actually makes really good glass.! Hopefully they will put out some more impressive lenses than an 18-300 but I can’t wait to see what they do come out with. This is really exciting for me I’ve been waiting a long time for Fuji and tamron to come together. Anyway take care. I really enjoy your videos so thank you for making this one. 🤙
Some nice pics there. I found it a little shorter at the long end than the Fuji 70-300. It could have been user error - but I noticed it a few times. Not a true 300??
For now , I stick with my 100-400, can't wait for a 150-600 for my wildlife photography :) It's nice though that Tamron is getting into Fuji Game! I would love them to keep it going and not make bad lenses. I still use my 150-600 tamron G2 for some situations on my older Canon Dslr. Tamron's lenses are not bad at all, I have been using them for a long time. Happy New Year Andrew! Cheers from Uruguay.
My friend just bought the Tamron 150-600 for his Canon body and wow, what a great lens! Quality-wise it easily outperformed my fuji + telescope rig for extreme close-ups of the moon, and it has a really amazing stabilization. I can’t wait for his wildlife photos when the birds come back this Spring.
@@fpicotte It depends on which canon body you may mount it, and I always use a tripod with it, as I am small and short lol, on the other hand old! I have seen one post, I believe on DPreview where the sharpness of the Tamron couldn't really match the Fuji. But by most accounts the Tamron is very good. Hi im planning to buy a Fujifilm set up for event photography. Which one would be better option a xt2 with a fujilens ( 56 f1.2) or a xt3 with a 3rd party lens (viltrox 56 f1.4)?
The viltrox has strong chromatic aberrations that you'll have to painstakingly correct in post, if you can at all. If this lense had been released earlier, I'd have switched to the fuji ecosystem. But at the beginning of 2021 such a lense was only available for canon efs and so I bought the Canon 90D.
DSLRs are dead
@@muttishelfer9122 OVF > EVF
@@slow.r1518 No, modern EVFs are so much better than OVF especially in low light. EF-S is a dead system and the 90D will not get a successor.
@@muttishelfer9122 I know. So this means the ef/efs ecosystem is fully developed with cheap and expensive lenses. And the lenses get cheaper over time. I like it.
And if I want to use my 90D like a mirrorless, I just switch to Liveview. There I have all the benefits of a mirrorless.
So I get the best of both worlds with the 90D.
@@slow.r1518 the 90D is a great camera
Sd quattro video when?
Like the new hair do!
Tell them hurry up the 17-70mm 2.8
Facts I really don’t want to spend for the 16-55 2.8
On Sony, Tamron is focusing very fast!!!
Good review. Would help more if lessen the verbal spill..

To all you guys, pal2tech (th-cam.com/users/pal2tech), Omar Gonzalez (th-cam.com/users/OmarGonzalezPhotography), Andrew & Denae (th-cam.com/users/DenaeAndrew), some some channels I have heard address the fickleness of TH-cam viewers...I am subscribed for your personalities, the joy you express in photography, you are so inspiring, regardless of the equipment you use. The only time I care about tutorials and reviews are when I'm considering buying something.
WHEN YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR CONTENT, I AM HAPPY WITH YOUR CONTENT.
I know it may never show up in the algorithm or view counts, but believe me when I say your contribution to my photography cannot be shown in just numbers. I will go out to shoot just to do it because you all have inspired me to do so and those times I find my greatest growth. I have been to some great locations, but I feel closest to my camera when I am just playing with it, not trying to just get a "portfolio shot". And you guys have taught me that and keep me anchored in the joy of photography. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Nice!
Fuji needs to bring their plastic fantastic to match fuji!
The card 😂
Tamron and Simga lens are average quality in this caterory. I have had Tamron and Sigma lens they are not sharp. I had Tamron 18-300mm for Nikon , unsharp even using tripod. Never again, I am a Fuji shooter and only buy Fuji lens. They are better quality and not much more expensive. When I sold my Tamron and Sigma lens ,resale value was poor. Never Again'
Thanks. nice vid but the music..... distracts.
Uh, I thought they've had an open API for forever....
Nope. They've only had it open for about a year. Every third party lens before that reversed engineered it.
@@AndrewGoodCamera no way! Wow.
GROOT GROOT GROOT
struggled because of Fuji's crap AF, even the Fuji 16-55 struggles indoors
I use the 16-80 indoors for video and photo all the time. It's not as good as Canon or Sony, but usually gives me no issue at all. This was worse.
Nice lens. Can't take the talking over the music. I just too old. Sorry mate
Does that light behind you need to be in the frame? It's kind of distracting and not comfortable for my eyes to look at.
Yes. It's a new TH-cam requirement
All the cool kids are doing it
I wish there were two distracting lights personally.
Way too big. Defeats the purpose of the genre however, if size doesn’t bother you, it’s about time Tamron hopped on Fuji X.
I m not interested in anything that is smaller than f2.
Crap lens
How so? I can't find any issues besides AF
Lose the music
"lose the music", in my language, translates to, "turn that music up!"
It really is an invitation for more music..
Did not even notice it.
