  • With so many different kinds of releases out there it can be hard to choose. Which style of release are you shooting?

Stan! The thumb or clicker is the way to go I’ve never had tighter groups.

The Onnex Thumb is the best button release I've shot. The UV was great, but the head length was too long for me. The Spot Hogg Tuff Guy > Wiseguy due to the adjustable tension.

I have 3 different release that I shoot consistently. I have a B3 BGPRO hinge that I still need about 1000 more shots out of it to feel really comfortable using it. My next release is a TruBall Abyss X-Tension Flex back tension/thumb button. I purchased this release when it first was released a few yrs ago because i wanted a release that I could use for 3D as a back tension and use it as a thumb button during hunting season. My last release is the UV Button. The only reason i own this release is because it fit my fingers perfect and felt just so good. I will be using this for huning this season.

I have used a Hot Shot Vapor 3 for the past 4 seasons. I never really could find an anchor with a wrist release. I decided to try something new this year upon the advice of my local bow tech, and purchased a Spott Hogg Wiseguy with the Boa strap. I’ve never shot better.

Using Onnex clicker since I got my Lift back in December. Just ordered the Stan Axis to use that as my primary hunting release

After 4 years of shooting a thumb and hinge I threw on my index release I had laying around. Was able to get a solid anchor and my peep was actually at the right height. From 40 yards first two shots Robin hooded my arrow. Thought it was a fluke and then did it again. Trying out a few different index releases and going back to it for a little while and going to shoot different spots now.

I use a STAN Solex wrist for hunting
A STAN ONNEX resistance for practice
    A Hinge 2 for competition
I enjoy using my resistance to work on my form and fully pull through my shot and get a surprise each time and then I shift over to my hinge and use the same process and I get better results by doing that

For a trigger I used the Carter Quickie and then the quickie plus for years. Long ago I was shown how to properly set one up short with my index finger hooked deeply over the trigger. Then learned to just pull straight back with my back muscles. Then, 30+ years, I had no idea of what pulling with back muscles meant. The Carter Wise Choice has been my go to for all my shooting. Set up zero travel and light on tension it’s much easier than any hinge. Because there’s literally no conscious thought needed like my mind telling my hand to relax or rotate like on a hinge. The Wise Choice is setup so I just pull. There’s no manipulation of my hand “ flattening” as some do or rotating by command which causes the brain to go back and forth between the sight picture downrange and commanding the fingers/hand to move. Your mind is not on the target spot. I just focus hard on the target spot and pull. The pin floats as I pull and the pressure builds up until it fires. Thumb button releases are hard to beat.

I’m still pretty new to archery. Got my first bow this past fall. Since I’ve been ballin on a budget, I still shoot a $30 Blackout wrist rocket from Bass Pro. The next big purchase I make though will most likely be a Spot Hogg Wiseguy. I’m a big fan of the wrist release, mostly because it’s all I’ve really shot.
But I love that most people say it shoots pretty hot. I love not having to punch it at all, and letting the slight index pressure let it fly. Maybe someday I’ll shoot a hinge or button, but as a relatively brand new archer, wrist rockets are my safety blanket.

Stan Perfex for a couple years. So much adjustment available with three different length rods and two sized barrels.

As far as index… the standard solex is best ive ever used . Haven’t used the like mike from carter though ( heard it is great also). Thumb, i have no idea as i just started handheld about 8 months ago . Right now i have a tru ball hbc which i cant see there being a better one than this . Just got a carter just bcuz about a month ago and have been struggling to get a really connected consistent feel with it but it seems like a good release.

Started with Trophy Ridge finger release, then moved to a Spott Hogg Purple Wise Guy with Boa, then moved to a hand held Stan Onyx Thumb Clicker, the hand held allow me to truly anchor.

Hey Jeff,,, great video! I’ve went from a wrist release to the UV Button a year back and it’s worked for me. Wanted to try a hinge so just picked up the UV Hinge 2. So far so good. Helping with my follow through but still working on panic / target panic… hopefully this will help!

Great points. I really enjoy the Spot Hogg wise guy for stalking and Onnex clicker for everything else. I have different windage values due to slightly different anchor points between the two releases. Something to be cognizant of.
Anyone heading to any TAC events next month?

Been shooting a thumb button for years. UV button last season. Testing a Carter RX1(index), Nock2it(thumb), and the UV button. So far I'm leaning towards the Nock2it. Not a fan of the index and the UV button's neck is so long, I losing draw length shooting it. But, the Nock2it is significantly louder than the UV button. Nock2it is a 2 finger and I like the feel over a 3 finger so much that I turned my UV button into a 2 finger.

Depends on the type of game you are hunting, for instance Elk you will most likely have a longer shot at that animal than a whitetail so you would have a little more time to aim for that application as the animal might not be aware of your presence and a hand held would probably be best for that situation on the other hand for whitetail your encounter most likely will be close range lets say 10 to 30 yards and an index release would be a little bit easier to use in a quicker decision making situation so I my opinion you should try to be well versed with both types of releases for whatever you're a hunting situation is.

I do but maybe it's a form issue?

    • @jeffcordero_
      @jeffcordero_  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I did not. As long as the peep and the scope housing line up it shouldn’t matter. Your anchor might be different.
If I switch completely to an index release I might play around with my dloop length.
