  • Before the start of the WNBA season, the 'Caitlin Clark effect' has enabled other teams to make lots of money. Besides having the preseason and regular season tickets sold out, the Dallas Wings are a very big beneficiary! Today they Indiana Fever plays Dallas Wings in their first preseason game and we cant wait to see how it goes.

I hope women with brains like Arike Ogunbawale accept this fact btw she can still shoot the rock. Dribbling, step back, 3 pointer, game over Dallas. I ❤ Caitlyn, Arike, Skylar and Cameron.

      @@fathertime7232 The big one the Sky acquired is Kamilla Cardoso from South Carolina. I also watched Cameron Brink and Rikea Jackson in last night's game with the LA Sparks. The WNBA has got a special draft class this year and if they were smart, they should stream these preseason games for free so that people can get a look at this talented draft class. However, whoever is in charge of marketing (in my opinion) does not know what the heck they are doing and they are throwing away a golden opportunity to advance the popularity of this league.

      From what I can make of the 2 year deal- like any business deal, it was taking that long due to concerns with whether it would make profit in a certain timeframe for investors- there was a lot of concern and what-ifs. This recent few months , and in part, driven by increase in ticket generated revenue, they pulled the trigger and completed the deal. May not have been the inspiration of the deal, but it's not a stretch of the imagination that since the indicated future revenue stream increased by three fold as compared to previous years, the CC effect had much to do with the finalization timeframe of the deal. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall at the meeting, and the 'go' for completion of the deal was no doubt unanimous with all parties. The CC guarantee!

    "Caitlin Clark" has no "effect." The "effect" is the tens of millions of dollars in advertising and marketing promotion that was spent for the first time this past year on women's NCAA basketball, and the advertising campaign selected the white face of Caitlin Clark as the center of its promotion campaign. Clark was selected for her national demographic appeal, NOT because she was the best player on the championship team, as has historically been the practice.

    • @saysoun752
      @saysoun752 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      So, without Caitlin Clark, do you think they would had spent that money? Do you think Nike would had given her a $28 million shoe deal if they didn't think they could make 3 - 4 times that amount, if not more? Why hasn't Nike signed any of the other WNBA players to that kind of deal? Why has the players never hit the milestone to get paid for jersey sales yet Clark's jersey is sold out and people are waiting for the backlogged orders to come in?

    • @waldolydecker8118
      @waldolydecker8118 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@saysoun752 - dude are you tone deaf? All your dumb questions were already answered. Let me repeat it so your brain can process it - ITS ALL THE RESULT OF THE FIRST MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR A WOMAN PLAYER that Clark was lucky enough because of her demographic appeal to be selected "the face" of the campaign.
      If another top player was selected to be "the face" of the ad campaign blitz instead of Clark, then THAT OTHER PLAYER would be getting a $28 million shoe deal and jersey backlog, because that other player would be the player everybody was familiar with from the ad campaign. If Clark because of her demographics wasn't the center of the ad campaign, then NO ONE WOULD KNOW WHO CLARK WAS, so there would be no reason for NIKE to give her any shoe contract or for her jersey's to sell.
      Seven year earlier, Kelsey Plum broke many of the same NCAA scoring records Clark broke, but Plum never received any NIL deals, TV commercials, nor have a multi-million dollar ad campaign select her as "the face" of a national ad campaign - that's why Plum didn't get any NIKE shoe deal or backlog jersey sales when she entered the WNBA. Didn't they teach you in school about the tree that fell in the forest, but nobody heard it? Plum did much of the same scoring that Clark did in college, but with no promotional ad campaign behind Plum, she remained comparatively unknown. The only reason Clark is known nationally is because of the promotional ad campaign that promoted her nonstop 24/7.
      The same ad campaign would generate the same results for any player if they were equally promoted. Why didn't the ad campaign select the best player on the championship team like they usually do to promote instead of Clark? Simple...the best player on the championship team doesn't 'look' like Clark, doesn't have her marketing demographic appeal. Clark is not any "greatest of all time player," she's merely a good player who is the beneficiary of a massive promotional campaign and she is naturally cleaning up all the free money being thrown at her. Don't blame Clark for taking it if they are going to throw it at her for free before she has even played one pro game.
      Its the players that came before Clark that established NCAA womens basketball and established the WNBA - all Clark has done is come along after the fact and financially cleanup from all their previous work - she owns them a lifetime of gratitude.

    • @mrpj1390
      @mrpj1390 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Let's just be honest, Caitlin is a once in a generation type of talent the same way Jordan was when he came into the league. She's gonna financially help EVERYBODY in the WNBA. A wise man once said "a rising tide lifts all ships." Nike wouldn't invest in her like that if she wasn't that good. Her success means success for the entire WNBA. And they badly need all the help they can get! After all these years they have yet to make a profit. But they're masters at losing money. Now they actually have a chance to turn a profit for the first time ever. It would be better if everyone supports her instead of trying to tear her down. And honestly she was the best player in college basketball. The only reason she could never win a college championship is because she practically had no help. Yea she was phenomenal but nobody else on Iowa's women's team was. Jordan has 6 titles but didn't start getting them until he had the right supporting cast around him. CC never had that at Iowa. She had to do all the heavy lifting on her own which is why she took as many shots as she did. Angel had that support at LSU and Kamilla had that at South Carolina.

    • @waldolydecker8118
      @waldolydecker8118 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@mrpj1390 - Tired of the excuses of Clark "not having any support at Iowa." Whose fault is that? Ans: Clark and Iowa. Clark and Iowa have full access to recruit and sign all the same players that all the other teams had, so quit the jive excuses - all you do is expose the ineptitude of the Iowa coach and its star player in recruiting the proper talent. Iowa coach Bruder has been on the job for a quarter of a century and Clark (a luckly local signee) is the first Bruder player who will play any significant minutes at the WNBA level. The fault for any lack of support is not in the stars, but at Iowa.
      Clark fans are eager to characterize the WNBA as "losing money," but corporations don't stay operating for 27 years because they are insolvent. That's stupid talk. Money-losing corporations don't have 27 years of multi-million dollar national broadcast contracts...dozens of multi-million dollar sponsor partners...billionaires requesting expansion franchises...thousands of fans already attending games, and millions more viewing broadcasts. Is the WNBA as profitable as the NBA? Of course not, but that's not the proper comparison since no major female sport exceeds its male rival and if you look at the NBA at year 27 (1973), it was on many levels behind where the WNBA is today - hell, the NBA Finals in 1973 wasn't even worthy of being broadcasted live - it was on tape delay.
      Clark being a "lifting all boats" change agent at the WNBA level is speculation at best. Like a new toy for a child at Christmas, she indeed will spark a novelty of new interest, but generational players produce and endure on the field of play. Michael Jordan produced and endured year after year on the field of play. We will see if Clark produces and endures on the field of play where it counts - not just off the court in gratuitous sponsor deals, individual perks, and media promotion.
