My previous cat chose me when she was a small kitten, probably because I was the only person brave enough to approach her calmly. She came from a feral litter that had been captured by a local animal welfare organisation. None of the staff could get near them, but I slowly presented my head for a bunting at the open cage door. All of the kittens bar one backed off hissing. One strolled forward and gave me a quick bunt before jumping up on my shoulder and hissing at anyone who came near me. I'd been instantly claimed and we were inseparable best buddies for the next 15 years. She turned out to be the most affectionate cat I've ever been owned by.
