I've had my Flow hive for 3 years now and it works exactly as advertised. I am always impressed and happy when I harvest some honey from the Flow frames. I have had zero problems with it here in middle Tennessee.

It works a treat, had mine for 3 years now will look at getting another. I harvested honey last weekend and got 12.5kg of honey from 6 frames out of the 7. I left 1 frame for the bees. They have already repaired the frames after harvesting. I'm pretty lucky that I live in Tropical Noth Queensland as there is a flow going on at the moment.

Thanks for the invention of the Flow Hives, which is the only way make me getting into a beekeeping hobby, as I don’t have the time and energy to do beekeeping in the conventional way. Now, I and my whole family can enjoy harvesting honey without disturbing my bees. Taylor from Sydney

Hello from Lancaster, Pennsylvania USA. So in the sense of keeping the hive dry from water entering the hive usually you would want to have the hive slightly pitched front to allow water to flow towards and out the front entrance if any accumulates inside from rain and or condensation. Especially for those that live in a cooler climate with the cold, condensation can be pretty bad and the bees seal everything up which would cause temperatures to drop drastically and also drown bees. So I guess my question is does this product have some feature that would alleviate this issue to help water drain out and allow the honey to flow out as well?

The flow hive has a slotted metal bottom board so moisture drips out the bottom. There is a sliding tray so you can see what’s been dropped out of the hive. It’s all there on their website.

How do we know that the queen bee has grown old and is unable to work and must be replaced by a new queen bee?

This invention puts a spotlight on exactly how ugly conventional honey harvesting can be and offers a much more humane alternative. I got my first harvests from my Flow hive this year, and let me tell you... all the toil and dedication of beekeeping is worth it when you get to sit down with your bees and harvest. They keep on keeping on in the observation window, busy and bustling, while you sit in gratitude for the hard work they do. There's no clearing supers, no rifling through their entire house just to rearrange and raid their pantry, and even though squishing/killing some bees is unavoidable in the course of brood inspections, there's a lot less of that going on during harvesting.
10/10 can't wait to split my good colony in spring and have two of these going next year.

Ugly is a bit over the top, all processes of extracting honey have their pros & cons. You shouldn't be so narrow minded 🙂

I can't wait to have a life that permits a back yard, so that I can finally buy a Flow Hive and have bees and fresh honey!

    Love this concept.
I've seen comments on forums about angling your hive so you don't drown the bees or mess up your hives when collecting honey. Comments on this?

Yes there should be a slope when harvesting - Flow Hive Classic
The whole hive should have a 2.5 to 5-degree slope toward your honey outlets. You can check this with a spirit level app on your phone, or simply make sure it is visually obvious that it has a good slope towards where your jars will be placed.
      Flow Hive 2
Your base side spirit level and rear spirit level will both be aligned when the hive has the appropriate 3º angle. - Isobella.
