BE WARY. Having done your scanning and shopping, when you go to check out you may be selected for a random scanning security check. In which case, you have to find an assistant, who will ‘invite’ you to have your shoppoing manually scanned. So you have the embarassement of being hauled out of the Smart Shop scanning area, unloading your bags onto a belt for it all to be rescanned. In my case, after being manually rescanned, the total shop was a few quid less that the total showing on the hand scanner. Apart from the embarrassment, all this took an extra 20 minutes. Won’t be using Smartshop again.

A rather robust response to my email to Sainsburys. Note, you mess up and you may have your app suspended and have go undertake further training !!!
SmartShop customers agree their baskets will occasionally be checked at random. Sainsbury’s reserves the right to rescan the entire basket or trolley at any time. If there is a difference between your own scan and a checkout scan, the checkout scan will apply. If we believe you would benefit from training in the use of the SmartShop app, we may suspend your account until appropriate training is completed by you. If we have reasonable grounds to believe there is a deliberate attempt to defraud Sainsbury’s we may remove your access to SmartShop and notify the police

But did the staff unload your goods onto the belt, or did you have to do it? If it was you, then that's not acceptable IMHO. Obviously they need to make checks, but Sainsburys staff should be the ones doing the heavy lifting not you. You choose Smart Shop to AVOID all that.

    • @stevenlovell3466

0liver 0verson No I did it. On reflection, I should have refused to have it rescanned, and just walked out.

@@stevenlovell3466 Thanks for this information. I had downloaded the app tonight with the intention of trying it out but I am not going to risk going through that embarrassment or the extra delay in potentially having my entire shop rescanned...completely defeats the object so app deleted.

I was tempted to try it but I wondered how they would monitor it… and possibly falsely accuse someone of shoplifting because of a mistake! Now I know what happens, I won’t be trying it. I’ll wait for Amazon.

Could you reduce the volume of the people talking, its hard to hear the music.

I posted similar just now.. your comment made me laugh out loud though. I'm so tired of loud overlay music... esp TV. The Repair Shop does my head in .. I want to listen to what is said and they play music over it!.. and the incessant 'busy' music in between.. so we know the experts are working like elves.. we wouldn't know otherwise would we.🙄🙄

  • @justrobin1234
    @justrobin1234 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

One problem here is the time between selecting products; unless you're either really quick or intentionally set the 'timeout' for the screen to a few minutes, you're constantly having to unlock the phone (and quite possibly reopen the app, if your phone reverts the homescreen when it locks). This is a time drain and annoyance. Also, it's not especially easy to carry your valuable smart phone one handed whilst pushing a trolley with your other hand, or as in the example here, using that hand to both carry a basket and pick up products to scan. Overall I'm not convinced by it being a smartphone app. A dedicated portable scanner that you could drop into the basket/trolley between browsing would likely be better.

I’ve used this service twice & the second time I didn’t like it. I was accused of shoplifting when the security guard came over & said that my basket was on the wrong side. If I had put it on the right, it would’ve said unexpected item in area. I had already paid for all the items & was beginning to put them in the bag. I was so embarrassed that he had been watching me on his screen & thought that I was stealing. I don’t think I’ll be using this again.

Question 1: I heard about this as they were announcing on the store radio. What happens to items such as vegetables, which need to be weighed?
Question 2: Is it possible to check a price of an item. Some times, item does not have a price tag?
Question 3: Is it possible to put unwanted items back on the shelf?
Question 4: I can't get phone signal inside the store. The front side near the tills is okay. Does it keep working?
Question 5: When you scan does the price of each item come up?

Did my first smart shop this afternoon with one of the in store hand held devices reason for using was to get some of my personal nectar offers - thought I was doing so well until I got to the checkout and as I scanned the QR code it popped up with a check your shopping - the assistant said she would scan 5 items fine with me as a spot check as she went through the bag she said the ham has not been scanned so I need to rescan the whole shop I kind of felt embarrassed and could feel myself burning up I’m sure I saw a picture of the ham pop up on the device - it would help if the hand held device could bleep as mine never bleeped once maybe the devices are checked daily to ensure there are no faulty ones for customer to pick up - overall experience has put me off using the smart shop as there seem work to be done - when I asked the assistant if there was a way of turning the volume up on the device she replied nope-

Nature provides us with enough food for every living creature on the planet. Farmers and supermarkets have the responsibility of growing, harvesting and distributing it responsibly. Billions of pieces of single-use plastic from each supermarket. Abusive and polluting factory farming. Selling products tested on animals and burning the rainforest for palm oil or soya. Use of sweat-shop factories. Clearly the food industry is not doing its job properly. Governments should legislate on these issues before it is too late. Sainsburys are responsible as one of the UKs largest retailers, and should stop operating its business in such a dark, horrible and destructive manner.
