Both cities known for death from liberal corrupt government. Both USED to be beautiful cities.... not today. I lived in the Puget Sound region, worked for Boeing for 20 years, and couldn't wait to leave in 2004. Now living just a few hours from Austin, I see both cities going down the same drain.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Both Austin and Seattle have undergone changes, and I understand how each city can evoke strong feelings. Each place has its own unique characteristics and challenges. If you ever want more information about Austin or just want to chat about the differences, I’m here to help.

They're both thriving cities, wdym? Your own personal biases and limited experiences do not define cities.

@@spacemans4060 The former "Emerald City" is now a dangerous place where closed toed shoes are necessary due to human feces and used hypo needles on the sidewalks. Businesses are leaving by the dozens and vacant commercial real estate is at record levels. Austin isn't quite as bad but it's catching up fast. THAT's what I mean. My "personal bias" can't affect these documented issues.

Austin's prices are rising extremely quickly, and the city government is responding by gentrifying areas where long-time residents live, specifically communities of color in places like the East Side. They are passing city zoning ordinances left and right behind the community's back in order to make it easier to sell to big tech companies moving in. Unfortunately, they are also using liberal values such as the promise of a "green" city as an excuse for some of this. They saved natural locations like Barton Springs and created clean new parks like Waterloo Greenway by allowing historic and important local communities to be destroyed. The city is becoming flashier, but where it is necessary, the quality of life is not going up. Before the big freezes of recent years, police officers have repeatedly swept homeless camps, even when warm shelters were full. Many of these people are not informed on where they can go.
This isn't to start an argument or anything, and I understand how one would see the city as thriving if they were an outsider or wealthy newcomer. I also don't agree with putting the blame on liberalism, as most of the grassroots liberal organizers in Austin are very aware and against all of this stuff the government has been doing. But these are not personal biases, these are actual things the community has been living through, greatly worsening in the past 20 years.

@@evanbookout Thank you for sharing your perspective. Austin has been experiencing rapid changes, and it's important to acknowledge the impact on long-time residents, especially in historic communities of color. Balancing growth with equity is a real challenge, and the concerns you’ve raised are significant. I appreciate your insights and understand the need for these voices to be heard.
