  • Before promoting national acts, learn how to promote local shows first. Here is the basic local show deal, and how to treat your local artist fairly. In this video, we discuss the basic local show deal, and I give a breakdown of the math.

    Who Am I?
I’ve booked, promoted, and produced over 2,500 shows with the world's biggest promoters (Live Nation and AEG Presents) and independently. Here is more about my background - www.makingitwit....
What's that sound? I have Tourette Syndrome, which is why you may hear a regular vocal sound. My producer calls it Jazz. I have quite a few tics and have had Tourette Syndrome since I was 6 years old. To learn more about Tourette's or support research for Tourette Syndrome, please visit tourette.org/.

Would be awesome to get a glimpse into what the role of a promoter is on the day of the show - at different levels (mostly asking about larger amphitheater or arena shows). In other words, if I promote a show at an amphitheater, how much actual work is there for me to do and how hands on am I while I'm at that specific show that night vs. I've hired others to do most of the work of running the event (ticket takers, security, sound engineers, catering, etc) and I have a more passive role. Should I be there to make sure everything is running smoothly assuming I've prepared well, or am I playing more of an active role? Obviously I'd settle with the artist's rep at the end of the night, which is active, but I'm wondering if there's any other vital tasks for me to handle, assuming I'm doing my job well and have a great team. Thanks for all the awesome content. The way you explain things (especially deal structures) is very helpful!

Oooo...that's a good topic, and adding this to my list!! Maybe I'll tackle this one next. The role of the promoter rep and who is the promoter rep at different levels. What happens if the promoter rep can't make it cause they got sick, stuck in traffic, etc. I like it! Thank you for that!

@@chrisgoyzueta Yeah all that would be really great! Also, might not be as interesting of a topic, but another thing I haven't ever really heard anyone discuss would be insurance - what kind, what is a reasonable amount to budget for at different capacities, etc. Thanks!!

hey can you make a video to explain how to build your settlement sheet in excel? I was using yours as a template but get confused on how to get the total due to artist display the right number. is there a way to set the cells to display the right number for a vs deal? If the vs net is greater than the guarantee i want that to show in the total due to artist
