  • Autism for Parents is a series of conversations on aspects of bringing up an autistic child based on attachment parenting, with Guy Shahar and child development specialist, Andrew Shahan.
This episode talks of the importance of rejecting any suggestion that our children are somehow defective, and offering them our full and unconditional acceptance. This also involves a degree of kindness and acceptance of ourselves too, as we explain.

This was an excellent talk and resonsated with me so much. finally someone who understands. the professionals although they mean well and are just doing what they have been trained and taught to do are constantly telling parents their children need to be fixed and that parents aren't doing enough and need to "advocate more" for them. Its exhausting. I have been beating up on myself for years feeling like i'm just not a good parent to my autistic daughter. but as a parent I never hear to love on my child more and accept her for who she is. i wish more people can send these type of messages instead of feeling like our children are such a burden and should only be loved until they are doing this or that. Again thank you for this video. I was really beating myself up yesterday about my parenting and myself. wishing my child was different and like neurotypical children. thank you so much for this video.

So pleased you resonated with this and that it helped to free you from the self-doubt we're so enthusiastically invited to feel. This is exactly the sort of effect we want these videos to have on people!!
