Fire alarm battery IN ENGLAND*
Hey Simsie! If you have a therapist you should ask them about “tapping” to help your anxiety with fire and fire alarms. It seems super silly but it really helps! If you don’t have a therapist you can research it yourself and there’s lectures and stuff on it. I hope you can figure out how to manage your anxiety with fire so you can live in peace.

My gf's apartment burned down about three years ago and she has been incredibly anxious over fire alarms and such since, understandably. What is "tapping"? I've never heard of it before

She didn't get paid, my girlfriend also worked in previous packs, they have a program for people to come and contribute as volunteers. Sometimes it's whole buildings, sometimes its just insights. I am pretty sure Kayla didn't get paid. Also let's ve honest, she would do it for free anyway

Ah Kayla. Yesterday the smoke detector in my room started BLARING out of nowhere for about 15 seconds. I stared at it for like 8 seconds because I was confused (and tbh I was expecting someone else to come in lol) before I got up, tripped over my charging cable and then almost fell. By the time I got close to the detector, it turned off 😅

The word for a fear of fire is pyrophobia. Most people are afraid of fire to some extent, but the level of fear Kayla describes in this video is pretty extreme and a bit concerning. If the panic attacks over fire alarms started after a house fire or something like that, you should probably look into getting therapy for it. Just looking out for you Simsie, best of luck

I feel like the little beeps fire alarms make for a needed battery change needs to change to like, a voice saying it or something. Like: "Fire alarm battery dying." or something. So people don't freak out as much or get super confused as to why it's beeping. I just feel like that would be a LOT more useful for people. It'd probably be less annoying too.

Kayla, I’m like that with amber alerts. So amber alerts and Tornado sirens sound the same right, like there the same noise. ( like on my iPhone the alert is the same noise) and I am TERRIFIED of any bad weather. Thunder storms, blizzards, hurricanes.. all of it. So whenever I hear the BEEP BEEP BEEP it one of those sirens, my heart skips a beat, my eyes get watery, and I am impossible to calm down, until someone is like no that’s just an amber alert. Which, amber alerts are terrible, someone’s child has been stolen, which is no joke and terrifying for the poor parent, but couldn’t it be a different alarm. Still as argent and loud, but not the same alarm please. Because I have had to hide in a tornado shelter so many times, because i live in the path of the Tornadps that come from like Houston and up( I live in Texas), but I will never stop dreading that noise. Full panic attack.

Can somebody explain AMBER to me? I heard it before but don‘t really know how it works. I once got a flash flood warning on my iPhone when I was in Oatman, Arizona on vacation and it scared me as well (I‘m from Germany).

I totally understand. If you go into your phone settings tho, there is somewhere to change it. You can google how to change ur alarm/turn off the amber alerts all together.

Busy bee sim challenge
In the busy bee challenge a teenager needs to take care of their three siblings, two children and one toddler. Their parents passed away which left the teenager in charge. The teenager still needs to go to school and have a part time job to make money. The toddler can go to daycare when the other siblings are at school. Once the children age up to teenagers they can help out and also get a part time job.
Rules
• NO CHEATS (other than bb.moveobjects on)
• One teenager, two children, and one toddler
• Sims only age up on their birthdays
• Start in a tiny home and expand when possible
• Start with 20,000 dollars to build the house and keep the rest
• The teenager MUST have a part time job (and can use gardening, knitting, etc. for some extra money)
• The lifespan should be set on normal
• If you have seasons set the days to 14
Main goal
The main goal of this challenge is to have all the sims young adult or older and be married.

The water mark on speed builds doesn't bother me at all!
Maybe it's how sped up the video is, or because you had to rotate the screen more than usual, but I definitely felt a little motion sick though 😂

In regards to your fire story I FEEL YOU. Had a light bulb almost burn through the ceiling about two months ago so I called the fire department because all I could smell was this awful burning so I was freaking out. I came home yesterday and one of our TVs was burning out so I flipped out because it was the same smell... ya fire related situations are no fun.

I have a similar thing with fire alarms (and I'm in England!). Few years ago I used to work night shifts so would be asleep during the day. One late afternoon, I'm woken up by the smell of smoke and hearing a woman outside saying there's a fire. The flat above mine was on fire (outdoor jacuzzi exploded) so we had to evacuate and it was pretty traumatic, 3 fire engines turned up and it really made me think about fire safety and everything we have could have gone up in smoke.
Then fast forward a couple of years, in a different flat in a different part of London. This flat was part of a complex above a row of shops (other tenants were rarely in as they travelled/worked away from home a lot). One evening my partner and I hada couple of friends over and the fire alarms started blaring, in the *entire* building. My heart rate went through the roof, I genuinely started to panic that there was a fire and our building was going to burn down. None of the other flats were home so we couldn't access anywhere and find where the alarm was being tripped from.
Had to call my landlord, he was out of town so his brother came over and helped sort it out but no matter how many times we reset the system, it kept going off. Turns out 1 alarm had low batteries (it was at the top of the stairs about 15 feet high and almost impossible to get to). that one alarm was tripping the while system.. took me days to get my nerves back under control so I feel your pain!!

It's actually so smart to have simmers build the lots because A. they're just better. But b. it also gives the sims team the ability to put a lot more work into the assets and animations, rather than having to also include low effort builds

I super relate to Kayla with the fire alarm. I once had a meltdown because I went to buy towels and there weren't any white ones, and I only use white towels.

Kayla, I am the same exact way with fire alarms and pretty much anything that reminds me of a fire alarm due to my fear of fire. I start sobbing and having a panic attack, ever since I was a kid. It sucks in the moment, but now you have the story and its nice to hear I'm not alone!
I was in an LDR for four years and I relate hard to your story with the fire alarm and it being at Dan's house! I can envision the same thing happening to me and my fiance, I'm sorry you went through that stress! I'm glad you can laugh about it now. It makes me happy though that you have supportive people like your Dad and Dan to be with you during those times.

I relate soo hard to the fire alarm thing?? i had a meltdown cause the voting line was 3 hours long after i’d worked the past 9 hours and had to go home after freaking out in the parking lot for 45 minutes only to calm down and go back to vote 30 minutes later and stand in the (now only 2 hour!) line. Love that anxiety life
Hi Kayla, your fire phobia sounds so impactful. I’m a CBt therapist and I used to have a very similar phobia of rats (I was having nightmares and wouldn’t go outside, because of it). Phobias are so treatable, there’s a 97% success rate for it!, with CBT (only treatment recommended for phobias). I would really recommend looking into this - it would involve slowly doing behavioural experiments and exposure to fire but in a way that’s manageable for you. For example I started just being outside a house that had pet rats in and by the end of the treatment (I opted for the one you can do in an afternoon), I was holding a rat! All this from the person who was too scared to go into nature based places in case I saw one! So I really recommend it!

I feel you with the fear of fire! When I was 11 I would sleep with my shoes on and money tucked in them, with all my possessions I loved the most within arms reach in case I needed to get up and run because of a house fire. My aunt said I was going through a "worry phase" but long story short that's how I learned I had extreme anxiety.

My fire alarm used to when it needed it's batteries changed would full on blare and talk saying "fire fire, danger danger!" But now it just beeps when it needs to be changed. I prefer it beeping to it talking.

Am I the only one who understands Kayla's reaction isn't hilarious, but that a 'full blown meltdown over nothing' is not a healthy place to be with anxiety. As someone who struggles daily with anxiety, this gave me real familiar feels of how I was in my worst 'everything is a crisis' mode. Sending you lots of love Kayla.
I think she recognizes that too...she laughs through a lot of her mental health struggles.
Fun story, I live with roommates, and we have like 9 fire alarms in the house ( that are all connected by the way). Someday at like 6 am, my fire alarms just started to go off, ALL of them... And then you just need to find the one that was going off and shut it down (for all of them to shut down). it happened like 9 more times that morning , different fire alarms started. So that was fun for my anxiety problems. When I nowadays hear a high tone, I instantly feel an anxiety attack coming, so that's nice!!

The fact that you can make fun of yourself in a good way and be so positive that is why you always have two to four thousand people in your streams when you stream you are so funny and naturally amazing. and I've been there sister with the fire alarm like a legit happened to me with my boyfriend.
I don't react well to alarms in general. Being an RA made me hypersensitive to any alarm type noise (cause I had to do xyz in a very short amount of time while remaining completely calm on the outside). In the last building I worked in the call system that would do the alarms would have a second or two of quiet white noise before the alarm/announcement started. It got to the point where I would hear the white noise in my sleep and bolt awake seconds before the alarm actually started. Then from there I would rip off my headphones anytime I thought I heard that white noise sound just for it to usually be my mind playing tricks on me.
TLDR: Being an RA messed up my brains emergency response and now when I hear any alarm or similar noise I get a rush of adrenaline that leaves me feeling exhausted.
(Anyways, thanks for sharing your story Kayla. Makes me feel a bit better about my own response to alarms.)
i have anxiety too and i totaly feel your story im extremely scared of my microwave exploding and i know it sounds ridiculous and it will never happen in normal circumstances but everytime my microwave makes weird noises im crying and sobbing like hell. hove we'll get better some day!!!
I feel so relatable. I ones almost destroyed the fire alarm and apparently it was the dishwasher chirping. I felt like i was going to have a panick attack if it continued as it was so loud. My boyfriend was calling from work when he was not allowed too and asked a friend to call me who almost came over too. But then after almost pulling it out the ceiling (its build in here) I wanted to relax and some tea for which I needed a cup out of the dishwasher. And apperently all the commotion was cause there was a plate in it that was too big and blocked the propellor thing.
It is these "funny stories" that make you so relatable and loveable.

While I'd say in general it is safer to keep calm when there's an emergency (or perceive there to be one), unfortunately with anxiety it's so easy to freak out 'out of proportion', but for your brain it isn't out of proportion so please don't beat yourself up over your reaction (and yes, I know it's easier said than done, but reminding ourselves to be kind to ourselves, especially after a panic attack, can help if you can say it to yourself every time, rather than feeling guilty for reacting 'out of proportion').
LOL KAYLA I can relate to your fire fears, but I can trace exactly where it came from! My mom used to make me do “fire drills” in our own house from when I was like... 4? So she’d just randomly turn on the fire alarm and make us run outside. It got so bad that she had to tell my school when we did a fire drill that the teachers had to stay with me because I’d have panic attacks 😂😂😂
after this pack came out, everyday is speed built sunday and I'm not complaining. love seeing you build, kayla!

Fire is my worst fear as well. When I was a child we went to New York City. We went to this church and you would light candles to wake wishes and I dropped my match. I screamed so loud. My family will never let me forget about it to. Fire’s so scary😥😥😥

I don’t have any freak outs of alarms beeping, but I do get the reaction, because I really can’t stand the sound at all!! It is really the worst thing ever looking for that one alarm going of, knowing it is laughing at you whilst you keep changing the wrong ones and then of course this happens during night time or any other really bad timing...

I wanted to be a firefighter (but I can't because I'm blind and mental illness stuff) and i feel like learning more about fire safety and signs of specific incidents might help the intense fear of fire you're talking about.

Kayla I just want to say. Don't feel embarrassed or stupid about your anxiety related meltdown. I have had similar events many times before and its a nightmare at the time. You feel like you can't control anything as reality slips away. You are really brave to share it on the internet, never call yourself stupid for something you can't control. ❤

Simmers always apologize for the watermark. Personally I don’t even notice it. That watermark should be a sense of pride for the simmer. The sims team recognizes their work and their influence, offering them the beta version of the pack first. Like that’s so awesome that they have the pack early.
Smoke detectors are a huge anxiety trigger for me too. In my house they SCREAM in English words “FIRE!!” while blaring a siren, even if it’s just the battery needing to be replaced.
And we’ve had multiple false alarms to the point that we had to call the builders of the house come out to check the wiring and replace them.
4:30 why does fire alarms use the same signal for Change the battery and FIRE.
okey there are newer ones that are mesh network with each other that supposedly have a different Tone for Change the battery. that starts low and goes higher over days.
Note the Fire arlarms starts to chirp about chang the battery month before they run dry (and they last about 2 years on a new pack).
