    I profusely apologize for some of these ridiculously cruel comments on this video. This is one of the most humane ways to euthanize a fish.
    What Not To Do:
    1) Vodka/Alcohol - burns the fish’s gils
    2) Flushing down the toilet should never be an option; as it can leak parasites into water ways such as streams or rivers.
    3) Do not comment, “Just beat it with ( insert tool ).” - I really hope I don’t have to explain this one.
    Thank you for sharing this video, it is very informative.

      Olivia Ryals Beating it with a hammer is the most humane way. Fish can’t feel pain and it will be dead instantly.

    • @GiesbertsN
      @GiesbertsN 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hitting it with a tool IS the most humane way to kill almost any animal. Just look at mice, a standard mousetrap hits a mouse so hard, that i didn't even know what happened to him and insta kills. Smashing a fish's head with a heavy object will kill it in 1 second instead of doing all this to make it seem like a peacefull death.

    I suggest that you put a drop of that clove oil on the tip of your tongue and lips to see how much it BURNS, so you will know how much to dilute it BEFORE using it on your fish. If you put it on your tongue and you can't bear the PAIN, DO NOT USE IT ON YOUR FISH UNTIL YOU DILUTE IT PROPERLY WITH WARM (NOT HOT) WATER, so that it will have the slow falling asleep effect BEFORE you strengthen the dose. Write me if you need more instructions. But USE IT ON YOURSELF FIRST, so that you WILL KNOW!

      This right here is why im a big fan of blunt force euthanasia over these types of 'natural' meds. Sodium pentothal euthanasia or similar would be the least, but this needs to be injected and that process alone takes more time and is more traumatizing then holding the fish by the tail _(or very quickly netted and placed in a bag if its a small aquarium fish)_ and then a swift blow with a heavy solid object at least 12"-24" long. The harder, faster, and further out of the blunt object (greater leverage further away from your hand) you land your blow with help to ensure the job is done with one quick stroke. If im eating the fish i then bleed them out, if its a pet fish i follow up with another few massive blows or sever brain stem with a knife to ensure he is fully dispatched

    • @RCichard

      Nahhh fam, you were doing the right thing. That is much faster and just a humane if not more then the clove oil. The fish react very violent for the first 20-30 seconds on clove oil... if you notice, that part was cut from the video and they came back to him once he was past the frantic thrashing about trying to get out of the enclosure and deep gasping that normally accompanies clove oil euthanasia. Though messy, when you crushed them with a brick, they were dead before they even know what hit them. Quickly net, transfer to a plastic bag, rush outside and BOOM - do your hard but necessary duty as a pet owner _(Only when you have exhausted all other options that is... dont go around smashing fish because they looked at your wrong or you want your tank back for another breed of fish - just rehome them and dont be a dick lol)_

    • @onefineday111
      @onefineday111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@racheltojio4360 Yes they do. I work with fish and have dealt with fish in situations where they have experienced situations that would cause suffering, such as chemicals in the water or extremely high ammonia, mainly from customers who don't know how to care for their pets, and they will generally swim frantically or even jump out of the water to escape it.

    • @RCichard
      @RCichard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again, another reason why blunt force euthanasia is the preferred method. The fish will thrash and gasp and try to jump out during the 'knock out' stage... sure, if your doing surgery and plan to revive him after that is a great tool but if your going to dispatch a swift blow to the head with a blunt object is faster, simpler, less room for 'wrong product' issues, and less stressful on the fish. The only down side is it may be hard for some to do that, but its a part of being a responsible pet owner.

    I did this to my big fantail girl today who had dropsie and a bad liver. You can’t really mess this up if you just slowly add a small amount to make them sleep, and then a little more and then a little more and a final big dose to finish. Just take it slow and peaceful over about 30 mins and it is fine for the fish.

      Rev Doe chlorinated water (tap water) causes a burning sensation for the fish. Now, if you care enough about a fish to euthanize it instead of letting it die naturally, you'd want it to have as painless of a death as possible

      That is accurate yet there's still the valid argument in which feel pain hence they as well have nerves which will of course send shocks to the brain. Though they're unable to feel pain such as human being, fish still can indeed feel pain. Just like, yes, if you cut the tail from the fish the tail will move. The fish can no longer feel pain from the split nerves, yet the nerves will twitch out.

      Both of you stop being idiots. First of all, FISH DOES FEEL PAIN, so go google since it's free and stop talking out of your ass. Pin on back of the head is what fisherman does with knife to instantly kill fish humane way, so it's lot better alternative than slowly suffocating it for hours.

    • @Ale-iu6ps
      @Ale-iu6ps 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clearly you're incapable of stating factual information yourself, so let me begin. Instead of doing a google search and ranting on as though you're an 11 year old, perhaps do extensive research. A pin through the back of the head would strike extensive nerve muscles within the fish leaving it to spasm and die slowly and extensively painfully. What this is doing is slowly knocking the fish out as though you would to a human before surgery.

      NeonGaming YT Fish do not feel pain the way humans do, according to a team of neurobiologists, behavioral ecologists and fishery scientists. The researchers conclude that fish do not have the neuro-physiological capacity for a conscious awareness of pain. The hook of a fishing lure is stuck in the upper jaw of this rainbow trout.
