This Tom Hanks movie is such an underrated one. So many poignant scenes like this one. Well acted and very restrained, like one would imagine it would be if for real. Lots of truth in this movie and I love the ending.

It's funny. People don't see it. She was already having an affair with the dentist when Chuck disappeared. Chuck does the math as he is looking at the Kelly's daughter and realizes that Kelly was married maybe one year or less after he disappeared and Kelly had a child almost immediately. Plus all the other clues before Chuck disappeared.
To see the pictures of Chuck and Kelly together in the beginning, and to then see the pictures of Kelly and Jerry, is like an insult to how close and special that the relationship between Chuck and Kelly was, as if he meant nothing to her. She probably still loved him, but if I were her, I would politely divorce Jerry, and get back together with Chuck, because that would've made him happy.

There was no adultery, no physical fights, no combative relationship. So she has conflicting emotional responses to "your showing up". But that's life in some strange way.
