I've seen a lot of English book tubers saying that they don't like the ruby red series by Kiersten Gier, and in my opinion, as someone who is bilingual in German and English, I do think it's because of the translation. These books are truly great (I read them in German) and I notice it whenever I read a book that's originally written in English and I read it in German, I don't like it as much, but when I re-read it in the original language, it's immediately 10 times better 🙈

I also got rid of Shutter during an unhaul last year. I finished it and I was slightly underwhelmed. It ended in a way where it kind of needed a sequel to tie up one subplot but at the same time it can just stop where it did. It was weird.

Heey, an unhaul of books I never read, why does this make me laugh? :) Never read a Kristin Gier book, but I know the original series is written in German. I think I hear so many negatives about it from the English translation because the writing is probably beautiful in German, but doesn't work in English (happens with Dutch books too, it's specific sentence structures and constructions that just can't be translated well). This needs to be clear, some stuff should only remain in the original language it was written in.
Having two books from the same edition in the series and them being a different size would really really mess with me :D You have way too many DNFs ... good for you for making the decision to use your time for books that are actually fun - but this is just too much money down the drain :( A lot of your "wont ever get to it" are currently on my TBR still ... hope I will get to them :D

Read The Novice recently after having it for a while. It was decent, but not something I think I'd personally ever consider a favorite. Soulless as well, read it, enjoyed it, but not a fav. It is good for a laugh though because they are kind of comical... and I'm pretty sure it was intentional. You sound like me with the hyped books. My brain is like... you need those, everyone loves those. I'm better about it now that I've figured out what I actually like. I can kind of step back from the hype and pretty covers and think... is this something I'd actually like? I think we are all unhauling shit right now. I just purged about 30 or so books from my own shelves. The only thing you got rid of was The Archived and The Unbound that are by a fav author, but like you said, you have the hardcover editions... so pass those bitches onto someone else so they can discover the magic that is Victoria Schwab.
