  • I'm a sucker for smart devices, whether at home, or on the bike. This smart headlamp uses ANT+ with a bike computer that supports it (cough, only Garmin currently) to set the brightness and mode based on speed and available light. Brilliant!!!
Not the cheapest 800 lumen headlight, but after factoring the GoPro mountable nature of the light, the price makes more sense.

You can put a bit of carbon assembly paste on the GoPro flanges to create more friction with the mount.

The only thing that has reliably worked for me was adding a layer of tape to the UT800 flanges. I decided to do this after measuring a few GoPros and finding out that the UT800 was working off a vastly different set of numbers :).

Hey, just had a quick question have you been able to update the light via your garmin head unit. I've found that it just states that it's searching for an update but never finds an update overall. Any success? I might end up just returning the unit and going with a giant recon hl with all the small annoyances in terms of battery life.

I don't think Garmin has released an update while I've owned it. If you're unsure if you have the latest version Garmin Express (PC/Mac software) would be the best way to update it.

@@Mamilian hey thanks for the reply, unfortunately, I found out that the last update was in 2017. Planning on returning the light and going with a giant recon 1100 liken light. Would have been a great light if it wasn't for the lack of updates. Thanks for the reply and safe riding.

After you form the light network, when you switch off the head unit the lights side blue led is always keep blinking?

Yep, just like a Varia radar. It might turn off eventually without a connection, but I've never left either of them on long enough after a ride was done to test it.

wait.... how did you get the " light network" option on the 530?! I have the same head unit, I only have the Varia RTL515 do i need to have both to see the light network options in status ?

    • @Jonilink
      @Jonilink 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

lol never mind i figured out what i did wrong. When I setup the Varia 515 i choose "radar" when I set it up as new sensor. I removed it and choose "light" under sensors and when added it unlocks "light network" in settings! Its funny Ive had the Varia for over 6 months and knew it could be controlled by the head unit but thought that the 530 wasnt compatible cheers

Who would have thought we would get to where one would need a device to operate a headlight?! Or where a headlight would sell for a, "reasonable price [EUR200!], for what it is [a bicycle headlight]"?
    Does it still work?

I’m more surprised we are weighing screws and determining they’re too heavy.

Here's the solution albeit not a solution for every one who owns this light. If you know you're going on a short ride use the smart mode setting.
If you know you're going for a longer ride passed 2 hours. Bring another light. If you have the handle bar mount get another light that mounts on your helmet. (Yes more money out of your pocket)
    Or
Set the ut800 at night mode pulse and just stay near lighted roads if possible.
You could always get a cheap hiking headlamp and take off the straps and mount it on your helmet (using your preferred method) this is cheaper than buying a new 700+ light
