      We used to have school house rock and really good Sesame Street episodes in the 80s when I was a kid. I could read and understand addition and subtraction before I started kindergarten thanks to these shows. Music is incredible for memory retention.

    OMG!
    Thank you, you made me seriously LOL
    I truly laughed for a solid minute at your reaction to his words.
    Weird Al is his own kind of man.
    Not only a genius but a comedian as well.
    Unless Al makes a mockery of you, then you have NOT made it.
    Such as that slam about Prince.
    See, Al gets permission. Well, mostly.
    He asked the performer Prince and Prince told him no, so the songs Al made about Prince's music will never see the light of day.
    However, he will forever make a dig at Prince and his people for it.
    A light fun-hearted jab, just to remind Prince's people just how much more famous he could have been if Prince had agreed to let Al do his songs.
    It's been a well-known thing among performers.
    You have not been considered to making it massive until Al mocks you.
    Because, Weird Al is the Goat of parodies. Now and Forever!

    This song, while giving you grammar lessons, is simultaneously making fun of grammar Nazis and the people they target. On top of that, he provides you a version of the song you can enjoy without the questionable lyrics and video of the original. Al and his band recreate all the music themselves, there are no samples. The more familiar you are with the original, the more this will impress you. Even if you don't know the original song, this parody is fun, which is another aspect of the way Al creates his music. He avoids direct references to the original song or artist, with a couple of exceptions (Perform this Way is a parody of Lady Gaga's Born this way, for example).
    And about the cunning linguist joke, cunning means clever, a linguist is someone who studies words. Look this up on Google for the (sexual) joke.

      Thanks Mustang Debbie, for the request. I love this song better than the original. Nice car, by the way. Oh, wait! I've seen you commenting on another channel before, hadn't I. Funny, it's like we all go around the same circles of reactors.

    Weird Al has beef with Prince. Though it was never hateful it was a point of contention between the two. That's why he was mentioned in the song. Al always gets permission to parody his songs from the original artist but Prince was the only one to ever refuse to. To give you an idea of how ridiculous it is to refuse Weird Al, Michael Jackson, Madonna, James Brown, Kurt Cobain, Don McLean, Chamillionaire, Green Day, Lady Gaga and Hot Chili Peppers have ALL given permission to him before he made parodies of their songs. He is the G.O.A.T.

    Weird Al did a parody of Lose Yourself, but Eminem wouldn't sign off on the video portion. In retaliation Weird Al made a fake Eminem interview and took shots at him the whole time. I don't think Eminem ever responded. LOL

      Also a reference to an off color word. Weird Al is family friendly but does enjoy the occasional double entendre which sails over the heads of the young ones.

      I think there were two in this song. One was "here's some notes" when it should be (and the lyric video shows as) "here are some notes". Another had to do with a split infinitive, I think in the crowbar sentence. Were those the only ones?

  • @BruceBanner
    @BruceBanner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The reason he mentioned "Prince" is because he is the one and only musician who would not accept a parody.

    • @Persun_McPersonson
      @Persun_McPersonson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In the context of the song it's actually something else. "Never write your name using numbers". Prince changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol.

    • @BruceBanner
      @BruceBanner 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Persun_McPersonson Which number does it symbolize?

    • @acehangman617
      @acehangman617 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it's more a reference to Prince's many song titles that use numbers, like 'I Would Die 4 U', 'Nothing Compares 2 U', 'Live 4 Love', etc.

    • @robdaviesprogm
      @robdaviesprogm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Other artists have rejected parodies in the past (Michael Jackson rejected "Snack All Night", a parody of "Black or White"), but Prince is the only one who was a royal asshole about it. He even had his lawyers tell Al that he wasn't allowed to look at Prince when they were scheduled to be at the same awards ceremony. Ever since then, Al has called Prince out on every album he's released. I'm not sure if he's discontinued the practice since Prince's death.

    cunning linguist is a pun... very punny. The thing about Prince is an in joke fans would follow, as Prince would never allow him to parody one of his songs. Prince used that symbol in place of his name in the 1990s due to some kind of intellectual property dispute with a former record label.

    • @lisettes.9598
      @lisettes.9598 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Prince also made a habit of using numbers to replace letters in his song titles and album lyrics.
