  • So James is back with a new look, Dave gives an update on sales, Wayne is busy prepping cars for their new owners including a customer that's just part exchanged the nicest Ford Eco Boost we've possibly ever had and its not all doom and gloom with this one.

With the 1.0 eco boost before you sell it take out the oil sump and inspect the belt. If the oil pick up is clean you can sell it with more confidence!!

VAG technical bulletin released June or July 2023…….Cam belt replacement intervals have all changed on all Petrol and Diesel engines if still running on the original belt. I found this out when we took in a 2012 1.4 ACT Golf recently. In the book it said lifetime! I phoned up 3 dealers and they all confirmed that was correct.

At 16.02 I think the little tube thingy is actually what you use to add fuel to the car from a can, as it doesn't have a fuel cap it needs the tube to " open up" the capless filler necks metal tab (which the petrol pump nozzle usually does)

The engine in the red Focus is a 1.6 ecoboost, not a 1.5 and it’s the exact same engine as what’s in the Fiesta ST, albeit de-tuned to 150hp. They’re very good engines and have a cam belt. You’ll be safe to retail that.

There's a bit more to the CRV diff flush than just refilling it and draining it again. There is a proper procedure which involves doing figures of eight in the car for about 20 minutes before draining. Failure to follow the Honda procedure may mean the flush is incomplete and won't achieve what you want.

    • @roystonvehicles9129

If i were to buy a car of that age and price range from a dealer i would expect it to have the cam belt done if it's due in with the price! that's the main reason for buying from a dealer knowing you have a warranty and any maintenance due is up to date. Alarm bells would be ringing if they hadn't done it when prepping the car for sale....

Are some Eco Booms not wet belts. After about 2014 they were much improved by Ford. I just know to leave all the 1.0t Eco’s and if was a 1.5 I’d never bid. But prob would sell a PX. Scary stuff. Sad really. Kept winning engine Year. Now look at them as the light as piss efficient for EU-ness engines grow old less-than-gracefully.

I know James is a Mini fan , I saw the new Countryman at my local dealers near my work when I walked past last week , I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I thought it was no looker. I stood there looking at it for a few minutes to see if it would grow on me but no. I’m a Mini fan also but unless the JCW version with its frilly bits added will look any better I won’t be going anywhere near one. I’m sure it will be popular but not with me.

Yeah I just can’t get behind the new design language either. And that’s not being a stick in the mud about it either- it just doesn’t appeal to me. It’s just too cut and paste from every other small crossover out there. New Electric hatch just looks too stale as well.

My customers all ask about the cam belt, if it's due in say 10k they'll not go for it, your better off doing it with photos and invoice if your charging full up retail on it, that maybe has, maybe not doesn't really cut it, but tbh cam belts are better than chains, I've not had a belt go for 10 years but had plenty of bad chains.
