I'm looking forward to seeing this documentary. I went to Burning Man last year to party and it ended up turning into something greater than I could have ever imagined...
I was just suddenly moved to surprise tears while watching the trailer. I was overwhelmed by joy and thanks that this is my culture, and you all are riders with me on the same intergalactic bus we are piloting in some amazing and beautiful ways! :)
I don't know. Sometimes I think the Burningman 'behind the scenes' people give themselves more credit than they really deserve. Rent some land, draw the map, stake the streets, and fine... burn a man on Saturday night if you want to. You are providing a PLACE for us to do our magic. You provide the canvas, we paint. You provide the street, we race. etc. I can't remember the last time I actually walked out to see The Man burn. Maybe 2005? Humble up BMORG and staff.
The one in Africa is called AfrikaBurn and is the second largest burn after Burning Man. This year the event is capped 7200 people and runs from May 1st to May 6 in the Karoo desert.
LOVE IT. i speak from experience when i say that i think anyone caught wearing feathers should have to spend a couple hours in the noonday sun, post-burn, picking bits of feather out of wet spots on the deep playa. that will cure anyone of the "oh, feathers are so pretty in the desert!" feelings. : )
Come on publish the whole movie Spark in youtube for free it's been so many years when it was in netflix. Forget the money and think about the fans for once the movie was 👌
Saw it for the second time last night, love the new footage and getting to see more about the artists and what they give up to create art, as well as the additional footage from 1996. The new music is great too, but I was devastated that El Radio Fantastique was cut because of it. Watching them play in the first cut and then hearing them over the playa footage, that part was as close as you could get to the burning man experience on a screen. Thanks for the peek behind the curtain.
Nice to see Ranger Danger there at the end. I look forward to seeing this film. H.M., Art Car Camp, and member of another film crew at BM for nearly 20 years... so far.
I watched this on Netflix earlier today, but I've never been to Burning Man. Many of my friends have and talk about it often. Some of it doesn't make sense to me. I like the idea that they brushed on in this film though. It's kind of a simulation of what can happen if we don't need to work anymore. It seems like something that will eventually happen as a natural progression of technology in the world. Ironically, some of the people attending are against the things that could make the world more like this eventually. Imagine what people would do in a world that is run by robots and computers. Products and services become infinitely cheap. Money no longer has a meaning. I don't think we would all suddenly live in tents in the desert, but the value of art, music, dance, food, entertainment, spiritualism, and that sort of thing would skyrocket in a world where nobody works anymore. Burning Man is a simulation of what would you do if you have nothing to do.
goatmonkey2112 so, umm the doing nothing ? is so much that you nver see it all and it is a big bowl if love and amazing art. you dont get it . Adivce?? DONT GO . Burning Man sucked , Its hot as fuck and its harsh... I hated it so much I am going again . along wth 70,000 people . that sold out in 22 minutes
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. To do Burning Man now, people save up money and spend the rest of the year getting ready. Building things, art, music, whatever. I know a lot of people who go. It's what they wish the world could be like. It's still a fantasy though. People have jobs and lives outside of Burning Man. There is nothing wrong with trying to capture that fantasy. That's why it sold out so fast. People want to do it again. I'm not saying there is nothing to do at Burning Man. It's what you do when you are carefree.
I can tell by your trailer that you captured many perspectives! I want to see what goes on behind the scenes! I'm close to releasing my own humble video on youtube, which focuses on the partying aspect of the event. It took me months, and I nearly gave up on putting it together, but the footage I shot has haunted since last summer. I'm not religious, but by the end of the week at Burning Man, I had a moving appreciation for the "mind of god."
I appreciate your feelings about wanting it to be shown in the Bay area but just because it is the city does not mean it would be viewed more than any place else. There are many burners all over the world ( Im one) and let me assure you we all will be viewing this. Namaste.See you at Home.
wow, that really looks slick (in a good way). Beautiful.great job,guys.stunning. I can't think that Eric F Herzog is not on to something given such a gorgeous look,hahaha.... It will be interesting to see how ya'll address the hardship side of playa life.Good luck in Austin..expect a win.Hope to screen it in Tucson!
Just watched this on Netflix! Looks like a pretty fun time! Wish the documentary showed more of the nightlife there though haha i wanted to see all the different stuff that happened there
Please help sponsor my Burning Man Art project El Oceano... he's an interactive oceano of blue fabric and this will be his third year :) www.indiegogo.com/projects/el-oceano/x/3092422#pledges
passing judgement on something you've never experienced on your own. that's like asking a waiter how's the food, then basing your decision on their opinion. that must be great to have other people make your life choices
Ohhhh so that's what the camera was for flying over the man last year. We saw it and thought it was going to melt. When is this movie going to be out for the masses?
Australia is more than just Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, most shows never make it to the biggest state ( in area) of Western Australia please can there be a showing here in Perth.
Not this year. I'm living in New Zealand now, and it's a hell of a commute. What year did you shoot this? I've only been to the Burn a couple of times, but my brother runs one of the Emergency Services battalions out there. I'm sure you have thousands of Burner contacts, but if you want him to help put the word out I'd be happy to introduce you.
This filmed had a screening at The Loft Cinema in Tucson, AZ on Sept. 11, 2013 so hopefully, by now, it's been shown many times in bay area. I know it would be "preaching to the playa choir", but I think there should be a screening tent at BM 2014 to show this and other good BM docs. H.M., art car camp
Just what the world needs, another BM commercial. It's weird, people are attracted to this thing, & you put all this time/effort into doing projects like making this film. But in the process of making the projects, you become disillusioned as you realize the people at the top are vampires and you wonder if that matters in the end and then as you realize that it does matter pretty much at the same time as the project is over and you wonder why didn't you see it coming call me, we'll get a drink.
Watched about 45 seconds of this trailer and saw all I needed to see. Thought about going to burning man before but thank god I never did. What a joke. These people should be put in jail for what they are doing to regular people seeking a good time.
Reality check: Many of us burners who choose not to work the 9-5 existence end up working the 10am to midnight day instead. Perhaps Paper Lantern can try working 16 hour days for 6 months. Guess what the reward is? You can manage to take 6 months off and go live in that tree house in the jungle or got to that cool festival in the desert you've been thinking of going to for the past 20 years...
After watching SPARK, there was a track at 45:51 (remaining) I have been trying to find but can not. If anyone knows that song's title, please reply here. Sounds like he is saying Flood the Block. Perhaps a Mobb Deep remix?
you're right, it's a bit uncalled for, sorry - but i've been to 16 consecutive burns, and the proliferation of feathers in recent years -- and the BMORG's blind eye about them after years of rigorously enforcing it -- really pisses me off. feathers are absolutely NOT in line with the concept of LNT, and they are a MAJOR pain in the ass to clean up.
Yes.... and no.... and maybe. If you want to answer your questions, go to BM and experience it first-hand, in-person. There is no website or review you can read that will provide that direct life experience.
Its sad that a part of society is so closed minded to an event like this. I dont know why people who dont seems the grasp the simplest concepts of this of this gathering can just judge and hate on such a freeing event. I guess people just naturally fear what they dont understand and willing to pass such hard judgement on the people that come together to enjoy this event. If its not for you then fine! No need to judge others looking to have a small release from this hectic world and enjoy this experience. The people attending this are probably much happier with there lives and understand the value of letting go of stringent societal norms that they live in the other 51 weeks of the year. remember "minds are like parachutes they work better when there open" so dont be so quick to judge. although i can see that alot of haters have lost the concept of what its like to keep an open mind to different experiences and ideas and i truly feel sorry for you and the prison you have built for yourself. I have never been to Burning Man but its definitely an experience im open to trying even if its just once! :) cheers everyone!
...add to your list the Spring Break kids there each year that litter the playa with beer bottles and their glow-in-the-dark stuff the night of the Burn... They are tourists not really Burners.
I'm looking forward to seeing this documentary. I went to Burning Man last year to party and it ended up turning into something greater than I could have ever imagined...

YES! THANK YOU! feathers are for tourists and poseurs who have no concept of or dedication to Leave No Trace.
Come on publish the whole movie Spark in youtube for free it's been so many years when it was in netflix. Forget the money and think about the fans for once the movie was 👌
If getting this out into the world means a like, then I'll like it! Can't wait to see it.
I went to Burning Man five years ago expecting something greater than I could have ever imagined...and it turned out to be a huge party.
Saw it for the second time last night, love the new footage and getting to see more about the artists and what they give up to create art, as well as the additional footage from 1996. And New Zealand! This trailer is so powerful!

It'll be opening at the Roxy theater Sep 6th. I just watched the press screening and all I have to say is that the wait will be worth it.
I'm so excited! I'll be at SXSW and can make it to the premiere!!!
GIFTING IT is a really good burningman documentary, if you havent seen it already. In fact the opening lines on this trailer are from it.
Yes, and in Bisbee... and at Art Car World down the road in Douglas, too! ACW has several art cars that have been to The Playa... :)
This looks great. Congrats on SXSW!

Yay for name-calling and labels!
The shortest way to answer your question is to tell you what Burning Man is NOT. It's a world apart from what most people know.
I would like to watch this right now . what about us in Australia I guess you don't have screening here =(
wow. I'm going back to Burning Man. excited again.
This is awesome! Even the trailer gave me chills. I cant wait to see it!
Australia is more than just Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, most shows never make it to the biggest state ( in area) of Western Australia please can there be a showing here in Perth.
"you people here today are the people from this moment on that creates the framework and the CAULDRON THAT WILL COOK THEIR SOULS"'
Im sure it will be available online

Going to opening in Austin tonight!

I applaud your sarcasm, sir.
Hope you had fun on the Playa.
The song is "Feel the Love" by Rudimental Ft. John Newman
Love the clip from '96

Lovin you all.
Come to Sacramento!!!!!
hopefully also a screening in Germany!?
The only bad thing about this film will be that it will be more dificult for us repeat burners to get tickets in the future...
I heard it will be hot in the theater.
Omg this looks so cool!
No feathers on the Playa!
Except this video doesn't really show how difficult it really is.....does the full movie show that a bit more?
this looks so amazing!

I got only one question, how do they shower over there? :|
Kate!!!
tease!
I can't tell you how many times I've been harassed on the playa. Sometimes you need to dish out a little tough love to get your point across.
I'd love to know the environmental impact of Burning Man.
Still have no clue what it is, and why it's done...
For those unfa iliar with Playa-speak, MOOP refers to Matter Out Of Place... litter.
Leave No Trace(repeat).
better make it a quickie!
Yes.... and no.... and maybe. If you want to answer your questions, go to BM and experience it first-hand, in-person. There is no website or review you can read that will provide that direct life experience.
Cause harassing people is the proper way to get your message across at a place that's supposed to be able love and acceptance?

What do you mean what they're doing to regular people seeking a good time?
wats the differance
Ah, I see. You're a Markov chain.
So ... what's "burning man" exactly ?
as mentioned already "YOU BRING IN WATER" ever heard of water containers, such as bottles, and jugs, and rvs that have water dispensing faucets?
I saw this movie. It was better last year.
you bring in water.
haha there is no 'behind the scenes' at Burning Man. Every inch of playa is on stage
Google Glass few? :p
i can already taste it. vitamin DUST
Have you ever been?
2:25 ... *hops on*.
But they are in the middle of nowhere... there is no water
so they are a bunch of hippies.. we get it
...add to your list the Spring Break kids there each year that litter the playa with beer bottles and their glow-in-the-dark stuff the night of the Burn... They are tourists not really Burners.
oh ye, i am shave mine all the time
If you charge your laptop, cel phone or iPad with electricity from the grid, it likely comes from the burning of coal. So... what's your point?
Can't wait to go )'(ome!!
Thank Gawd For Bacon! - Thats all Im saying.. Bacon.
why?
just like you. with water.
enough water to shower everyday? you serious?
hmmm i better jump realy high then.
