sheepgray08 Motown is an American recording company founded by Berry Gordy in the 1960's that signed artists such as Marvin Gay, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations etc. the genre of music known as Black Soul and some of what we know as R&B today came from that type of music. When you listen to singers such as Diana Ross and The Supremes, Leon Bridges' music takes you back to that era. Even the way he dresses and combs his hair is reminiscent of time when music had a certain quality and sound. I hope my explanation helped🤗

I am in no way religious, nor do I consider myself "spiritual" in any way. I don't believe in a higher being or an omnipotent force. That being said, this song resonates with me. It moves me like few songs can. It reminds me that no matter what our religious beliefs, we are all connected and have a desire to belong and a need for unconditional love.

Christianity and belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to secure your place in heaven, and the most amazing thing is that Jesus wants you there, I know because he wouldn't have had me tell you this right now. The only Heaven on Earth is knowing and believing there's a Father God in Heaven and trusting in his will. In a way I am like you I don't have a religion, but a relationship with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, a relationship that has bound us together with cords that cannot be broken. It's kinda funny because no matter what religion you are or aren't ever human still revolves around the sun and I don't just mean the star I mean the only begotten one.

It resonates with you because your spirit (which God created) connects with it. It’s like a subconscious gravitational pull. It’s like someone calls you, and your body reacts and your mind is confused as to why you’re moving. But your spirit does. And that pull is stronger than your conscious mind can comprehend at the moment. That’s God. That’s Him speaking to you through this song. I’ve watched every video I can find of this song and I’ve yet to find a bad version from him. Good grief Charlie Brown this dude can sing. His pose, presence and control is undeniably the peak of what one can inspire to be. How is his man not more famous? Yet the people that sing about drugs and battering women get fame??

I think the backing vocalist is Brittni Jessie (www.brittnijessie.com/). It's a lovely overall performance - so thank you, Leon. Brittni's singing is very fine too & a significant enhancement of the song ... It seems wrong to me when supporting musicians don't get clear credit - and like others who've commented, I wanted to know who the 2nd singer is.
