@RusselJamesStevens I agree. When guests anywhere, a great amount of public respect for the politics, people, customs, and norms of that place serves us well. In the late 1980’s-while in college-I worked at a camp in Erongaricuaro, Michoacan, Mexico. Though this anecdote is nothing like murders nor ruffling political feathers, while sitting with the other men in a VW microbus, drinking Chiranda-all of them teachers from schools in Mexico City, I first realized that judicious silence was sometimes my best response. When host Edilberto said “It is best to marry a younger woman, to form her to your ways” repeated the phrase again with great emphasis to robust agreement, I did not say “Sounds like having a scullery maid for a wife!” I drank my Chiranda, rolled, lit, then passed a joint of zorillo, and nodded in kind.
Some of us are permanent residents. It might legitimately be our business, but we are forbidden from getting involved. Hear no politics, see no politics, speak no politics. If expats ignore this, jail awaits.
Nothing new under the sun there. Political violence has been a way of life in the Philippines for decades upon decades. Having first visited the Philippines in 1977 at the ripe old age of 19, I saw it up close and personal. Since then, I have lived there twice for extended periods of time and after that, visited more times than I can count. I've had the opportunity to make friends with local politicians, police and military higher ups. Political and family clans, private armies and warlords are a real thing there. Best to mind your own business and keep your thoughts, not just about politics, but on many other subjects, to yourself. Plenty of foreginers have got whacked for simply not following these common sense rules. Having close relationships with the above i.e. local politicians, higher up police and military personnel, as a foreginer, puts one at greater risk. Just my two sense. Stay frosty and stay safe bud.

I've lived here permanently for 20 years and visited a lot in the previous 15. Politically motivated shootings are rare where we live 2 hours from Manila. If they happened in Manila it was a lawmaker tracked there or in QC.
@LifeOfZamboanga I follow the local news and it's uncommon in Cavite, 4M population, and urbanised Laguna. More common in Batangas. Not much knowledge of Rizal but would guess uncommon in urbanised areas. Bulacan too.. Though of course the average numbers must be far greater than in most European countries.

Political violence used to be the norm in the Philippines but I’m guessing based on your assumption that the country in a good phase of progress and development is going back to its old way. That all said, I certainly hope it doesn’t. Stay safe out there, Manong.
I’m moving to the Philippines in February. Here in the U.S., I have a variety of weapons and a concealed weapons permit. I’ll miss my daily carry weapons. Even when I lived Germany I used to carry because of a Status of Forces Agreement.
Political killings have been going on in the Philippines for decades. It stopped for a little while during the term of the last President, but now it’s back. The people in power want to remain in power. We just hope that the current President (Marcos) doesn’t do the same thing that his father did when he was President.
The last president? You mean Duterte? Are you kidding? He’s the biggest political killer in the Philippines. He’s also the guy who had 7,000 killed (official number, but the estimate was actually 33,000 killed) for his “War on Drugs” campaign. Many of those killed were innocent, and some were disguised political killings. You’ve been brainwashed by the Duterte crime family.
My friend coming from another foreigner who lives in Zamboanga Del Norte I don’t care if it gets you 50 million views do yourself an extremely favor never ever discuss Philippine politics on social media especially war between politicians. My friend it will bring you nothing but trouble you really don’t even want to imagine.
In the Philippines - exactly where is not important, because it happens everywhere in the Philippines. It happens where I live and I live on a tiny island. It is what comes with politics here. I wish it wasn't that way and over the years, I tried to stay away during political times (Governor, Mayor races, usually) ... I was a political target one year, even as a tourist. I borrowed a vehicle for a few weeks while visiting and he was a politition/lawyer ... my in-laws overheard someone in the bar we were drinking in, that they wanted to jump me to teach my the guy that loaned me the car, a lesson.
He's probably not saying where to protect himself... I had to do this in the Philippines because the local police came looking for me in the province at my in-laws house when the American vlogger was recently kidnapped and killed.. they were trying to get me to come down to the police station to 'sign a logbook"... I had been out of the country for 19 days when they showed up though... It wasn't the first instance.. when I was heading into the city two guys on a motorcycle stopped me and my wife while we were waiting for a terminal bus in civilian clothing claiming to be a police officer demanding my passport... I refused of course saying I didn't have it on me and they went on their way.. you have to be careful and avoid potential trouble at every turn no matter who it is.. safe to say my wife doesn't want me traveling to the province anymore for safety reasons. Best to stay in the city
Sitting and drinking with a group of my wife's relatives in a Barangay in Cebu a few years ago they asked my opinion of Rodrigo Duterte , I played the politician myself and just said I like some of what he is doing but I don't agree with everything. Left it at that. Play it safe, especially when they have got drink in.
It won't be long now . I have been waiting for this to start the western culture has come to P.I. I knew this was coming with the cell phone usage becoming prominent more and more . I have noticed an escalation of violence of people on people that was not there before !
Philippine politics are as much our business as ours is theirs. Its not unless your a citizen . My friends are from different regions so they have different opinions. But if an thinks thus behavior is only in the Philippines you have not been paying attention to America.
Drinking buddies with local captain if I recall. Maybe be more selective of time and place during elections. Excess caution rarely hurts as much as the lack of it.

One of the suspects who was arrested in connection with the kidnapping confessed that he was shot in the leg and the stomach and died on the getaway boat and they dumped his body in the ocean at least that's what the suspect confessed to police and the two American FBI agents that came to the Philippines... They said it was gang related in the news article.... Merry Christmas 🎄 Everyone Yes it's all going on Here in the Philippines Lovely people mostly ❤
Merry Christmas, the US has several shootings a day in our cities
As an American it’s funny to hear others to not speak on politics that don’t pertain to you but in the same breath everyone has an opinion on American politics. Everyone is allowed to voice their opinions.
@@RyanTheEatingwarrior Thank you sir, your exactly correct. Just like anyone can come to America and live just like an American citizen, same rights, privileges, healthcare, education, business opportunities ECT. But all I hear coming out of the Filipino and kowtowing crowds mouth is shut up, keep a lot profile, smile, be nice non offensive and never forget you're just a foreigner who can be deported at the drop of a hat. Oh, and don't be too enterprising, you wouldn't want to be successful and show up the Philippinos.
Bro why don't you move to a safer place ?
Don't get involved in political issues.
Daveo is a safe city you can easily find a apartment in daveo rent your house out or allow family to live there.
I did a Google search 1 thing i see that's different it says the Philippines is dangerous for foreigner's.
I think because of the Australian couple, the mma guy, the guy from Israel then elliot eastman.
Taking into the number of foreigner's in the Philippines compared to other countries in South East Asia that's a lot of killings in a short space of time.
I'm moving to a safer place. 3 blocks away from the house he was shot in Pinan Philippines. My town in America is in the top 20 most violent cities in the USA
It’s no safer place
This is life

How much do you pay your worker? With food? Im looking to get some work done on my house, thanks, I enjoy your channel.
Hi will. I just had a front porch built and paid 500 pesos per day per pair workers. Make sure to supervise or projects take a longer time milking the job.
600 per day and food Wiliam
@@Philippinedreaming true. I forgot snacks. We provide a midmorning snack and afternoon snack. Usually sky crackers or wafers and coke or juice. At least that's what I see the old lady does.

750pesos per day plus merienda and lunch....sadly I advise you not to leave anything of value lying about .
I know Dutarte fixed a lot of crime in the philippines. Hopefully, the country isn't going back to its old ways.
Petrol for the ants nest ? and... Good progress on the house... 2025 will bring more improvements... Enjoy a relaxing Festive Season and health to Family*...
Always avoid politics, religon, toes and egos... step on any of these and trouble will come your way.
Bro don't take chance, avoid even reporting to your viewers. If you want to report, share what local media reported, even this could be risky because coming from a country where people say whatever they want, you may by mistake say something not liked. As a foreigner, it's hard to figure out what's safe to say and what's not safe to say. Relationship, and other non-political aspect of the Philippines are more than enough to get views.
Take care mate
I've lived here permanently for 20 years and visited a lot in the previous 15. Politically motivated shootings are rare where we live 2 hours from Manila. If they happened in Manila it was a lawmaker tracked there or in QC.
Its not rare anywhere here in the Philippines, it's normal to us.
@@christopheredwards7846 They’re not as rare as you think. You just don’t hear about them.
@@QuicknStraight Well yes, possibly. But I said uncommon not rare.
@@christopheredwards7846 It's not even uncommon!
What province are you in ?
When I saw your headline I thought you might be referring to people firing off guns that they do to celebrate Christmas in some places in PI. But I dont know what you mean when you say he shootings have started unless it has something to do with the electoral cycle. I have never lived permanently in PI but I do know disputes are often settled with a gun
We lost 2 barangay captains in 6 Months. Are you putting up plaster board on the ceiling?
Did you see popular Phillipino blogger Thornton has passed away ?
Yeah, sad things really. I was hoping to get to meet him sometime. I am on the next island over and planned on taking a trip into Dumaguete in March when the weather is warmer. LOL ... look at me ... living in the Philippines, wanting warmer weather.
@@PandemicPvE Snowed here in NYC this morning. Toasty 27 degrees F right now. You should branch out a bit in your narrative and try to get some of his viewers. He was varied and descriptive, right up your alley. Good luck.

Political violence used to be the norm in the Philippines but I’m guessing based on your assumption that the country in a good phase of progress and development is going back to its old way. That all said, I certainly hope it doesn’t. Stay safe out there, Manong.
Where do you live?
I’m moving to the Philippines in February. Here in the U.S., I have a variety of weapons and a concealed weapons permit. I’ll miss my daily carry weapons. Even when I lived Germany I used to carry because of a Status of Forces Agreement.
I've been worried since too many areas have been trying so hard to take away civilian guns.
WHERE'S YOUR HOUSE AT MATE ?
Being involved in politics or organised crime has always been a dangerous choice. Actually politics is organised crime anyway.

Where is “here”? You don’t say where this happened.
Showing the true side
Stay out of Mindaneo. Its a wild ride if your outside of Davio,or Sarigao.
Maguindanao massacre 2009.... i sure this is the worst there has been in mindanao
Is it council elections stephen😊
IT'S LIKE THE OLD WEST ... IN THERE EYH
I'd never want to offer a political opinion on a country I was a guest in. No point. It's not your fight.
It won't be long now . I have been waiting for this to start the western culture has come to P.I. I knew this was coming with the cell phone usage becoming prominent more and more . I have noticed an escalation of violence of people on people that was not there before !
Accountability in politics is a foreign concept in the west, lol.
these things happen in first grade cities over gang turf wars too
Be careful about your videos. They will watch them. Decide based on that when you are worth their time.
The lest few days 2 councilors have been shot. One in Pangasinan, the other one on Zamboanga.

Philippine politics are as much our business as ours is theirs. Its not unless your a citizen . My friends are from different regions so they have different opinions.
But if an thinks thus behavior is only in the Philippines you have not been paying attention to America.

Isn't that American vlogger who was kidnapped believed to be dead now?
@@davidb2206 Yes David. He is believed to be dead
@@Philippinedreamingit has been confirmed he is dead
One of the suspects who was arrested in connection with the kidnapping confessed that he was shot in the leg and the stomach and died on the getaway boat and they dumped his body in the ocean at least that's what the suspect confessed to police and the two American FBI agents that came to the Philippines... They said it was gang related in the news article.... My advice is if you're traveling in the Philippines do not post everything online people do follow and stalk you.. in fact it's best just to go silent on social media during your stay in the Philippines
