    This video's definitely one of the best DIYs out there... I love how you explained in different contexts for various deadbolts. Thanks a million, dude!

    I so appreciated the detailed information. I'm feeling pretty confinement about doing this by myself. Like Renee said, when our fathers are gone, TH-cam is the next "go to" to learn to do things our dad's would of shown us how to do. Thank you very much

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just bought my first home and I spent hours last night trying to change the dead bolt. I could not make it fit. Did not know I could simply twist it to make it line up with the center of the hole in my door. Guess I was reading the instructions half asleep. But thank you!!!

      Eric Jackson...tbis right here just saved me from going ham on the woman at Menards who said my swap of locks would be easy. I have changed other locks with no issue but after 2 hrs I was ready to scream. This tip that the instructions don't include was a life saver.

    I’d battled the last step of screwing the plate to the door for a half hour, including taking everything apart and starting over. Still a problem. I watched your video and that one little tip about aligning the latch because it can cause a bind was the solution. Tiniest of tweaks to the latch and voila!

  • @robgillanofficial

    Thanks for this. I actually didn't know about the extended setback on my door and wasn't aware that the bolt could be adjusted. I was wondering why things weren't lining up. Seems stupidly easy now, but I never thought to try twisting the assembly!

    It appears there is glass in this door. Would it not be better to have a key lock instead of a knob lock on the interior. I guess not a problem with large glass, because person could just break the glass and walk in through the opening, but doors with smaller glass, person could break glass and reach in and unlock the dead bolt.

    Hello, I just installed a Gatehouse deadbolt lock. Everything looks good and seems ok, but the key will only release if it is in 'locked' position. Also, once the key is out I cannot turn the thumbturn. Can you advise me? Thank you.

    You glossed over the hardest part at about 5 minutes in. How do you get the long screws into the threads on the other piece? You have to find the holes blind. I've be poking and jiggling and twisting for 20 minutes and this is the third DIY instructions I've sat through. Any tips or tricks on how to find the holes? So frustrating.

    This video completely misses the most difficult part of the installation. How do you you blindly insert the screws from the inside of the door where the twist lock is to where you meet the screw holes on the back of the other part of the lock that you cannot see on the side of the door that the KEY goes into on the outside of the door.
    This video does not even show you that part of the lock.
    If you have no experience doing this I guarantee that this will be the most difficult part of the installation. Toucan does not even talk about it.
    There are THREE parts to install. This video shows TWO parts. The door has an inside, an outside and a strikeplate. The video misses the OUTSIDE.

    Hi, can you change the no faceplate type of deadbolt to a faceplate type of deadbolt? Or are you stuck to using a no faceplate type for the duration of the door? (Unless you have to do some chiseling)

  • @ald7248
    @ald7248 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice video, but those locks are easy touches. In New England in the 70s and 80s there was an Arrow design that became almost ubiquitous which included (among other things) - strike plates designed to splinter a door if it was ever removed. It also featured inside and outside cylinders that could not be properly aligned in the camslot without special tooling - that Arrow, itself, stopped making in the 1990s. Still waiting for a YT video for one of those bad boys 🤣😆

      use an ice pick or one of those parilla sticks, you know? The ones we use to grill shrimp, etc. And try to hit the piece on the door with a little hammer, smooth not too hard, is just to unstuck it, get it loose a little bit. I hope this help!

    Nice instructions if simply replacing deadbolt, however, mine is stuck locked. Bolt mechanism is broken. Door locked and piece that directly attaches to bolt will not move bolt back. How do I get door open so that I can replace bolt? Tried taking door off by removing door pins, but door fitted properly and will not move. Suggestions anyone??

    • @YoyoR719
      @YoyoR719 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      mine was stuck locked also, because a small piece broke off. Once I removed the outside( where key goes in) and the inside (hand unlock part) I could see that on the inside of hole on door (opposite the strike plate) that there was a circular cutout in the wood. I dont know if your door has this part cut out. I was able to put a screw driver through one of the holes and push the deadbolt piece towards the middle of the door. Then I could open the door to replace deadbolt. I hope you can understand what I am trying to describe with no photos.
