CJ Cregg is for me, the strongest female character TV has ever seen. The strength and confidence as well as the human weakness is in the character is breathtaking
I can't believe I've forgotten how beautifully and insightfully this show was written and performed. Even with the warts that were inevitable to pop up in the Bartlett Administration, I still find it worthy to aspire to. While Hollywood gets to sweep things under the rug, ignoring some things that do play a key role, the show gives us the insiders views of a presidential administration many of us dream of for our own, all to real world. Whether one agrees with Bartlett's politics, I hope people across the political spectrum can appreciate the importance of genuineness and humility, often on display in this amazing show.

Allison Janney is one of the most awarded and critically acclaimed actresses in the business. A seven time Emmy winner, an Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG winner, a two time Tony nominee, she has proven what an amazing range she has as a performer. And she had been working steadily as an actress for more than a decade before her big break came at the age of 40 in "The West Wing" in 1999. Which proves that good things come to those who wait......
As a Canadian, I loved this series. It portrayed the right human emotions/personalities and frailties. It showed what class, human dignity, empathy etc was meant to be. Excellent work CJ Cregg.
How do I know this is an outstanding TV show? I'm a conservative. Although I have to cringe at many of the Bartlett administration's victories, the show is fast moving, extremely well written, intelligent, thought provoking and engaging. The characters are larger than life yet believable. True excellence in television is rare, and when it comes along it's mesmerizing.
Having watched the show a gazillion times, and as much as I love the whole cast, I have to say Allison Janney produced the best acting performance out of them all. Chapeau l’artiste !

There are few actors that can fully flesh out a role and make you love them so wholeheartedly that that one character they have done is the one that is permanently set in your mind when you think of them. Allison Janney is an excellent actress and has done many great roles but my absolute favorite character she has ever done, was C.J. Cregg. No one else could have done this better than her.

Go back and watch the series with a more critical eye. I stumbled across WW through TH-cam since I do not even own a TV set. MY GOD, this show and THE NEWSOOM are glaring exceptions to the utter wasteland on the American BOOB -TUBE. The whole cast, the writing, the making of Aaron's shows is STELLAR. They are also what I want of my Exefutive Branch. The character written as JED BARTLETT is the diametric opposite of the Whitehouse under the current and last clowns who parked their glutimus maximus in the Chair in The OVAL Office.. Lest we think these " leaders" actually did their jobs, the current and previous Presidents were and are controlled by a single group which manifests itself as the major political party leaders. In the next election, I might write in JED BARTLETT, WILL MACAVOY, or possibly AARON SORKIN !

Every Memorial Day weekend I open up the West Wing DVD box set and binge watch. My wife accompanied me during one of these binges. After that she will only join me on the couch if I promise not to mansplain things in the show. I promised. However, and you should have guessed there would be a however, I did quiz her on things. How many electoral votes needed to win? If the two Senators from each state account for 100 electoral votes and the 435 members of the House account for 435 electoral votes, where do the remaining 3 electoral votes needed to make up the 538 electoral votes (538/2=269)+1=270 electoral votes needed to win, come from? After 8 years of this I've run out of questions and she still holds me to the mansplaining promise. Not sure who won.
@@stevenbennett3805 This reply makes me smile :) It's such a touchy subject lately, but I'm a Republican who adores this show and honestly, I know Bartlet is a Democrat, but the show is so well written, there is hardly any proof they are either R or D. I saw this "Reaction" video the other day of a guy doing a reaction to the Gap Band's Party Train video... he's black and was loving the video and stopped it, misty eyed and in awe and said " Look at that diversity ! I won't attack any person for their political beliefs but I do know one thing, and no pundit or MSM told me to think this. This is not the same Democratic party I grew up with. It's not near the same as is portrayed in the WW. It just breaks my heart that the further we get away from the racial tensions in the 60s and such..... it seems we're regressing instead of progressing.
Such a brilliant series with so many standout performances, and you could definitely say Allison's was one of if not the best. Take CJ out of "The West Wing" and everything falls apart. Allison Janney was perfectly cast. She is one of the best female actresses of our time.
Allison Janney is the greatest actress ever
CJ was my favorite character. She was the one that could stop the bus then have it roll on its side fast.
I love her character as much as I love the series!
Debbie looks so clean in real life!!
Best broadcast TV drama EVER
When Trump is in jail, he should only have reruns of the West Wing on tv. Hahaha
Great character, great actress. Where are the others???
Here's my question that's always bugged me. Why wasn't Sam at Leo's funeral? A week later Josh travels to California to pitch him the Deputy job. Wouldn't you think Sam would be at the funeral and he would have mentioned it there? (I get it's a TV show. It's just a point of conversation)
My guess is it was an aesthetic choice. If Rob Lowe was in Requiem, it would ruin the surprise and effect of the next episode.
America says a woman might not be qualified to be president or Chief of Staff....and yet here we are with a reality show host who told America to inject bleach into our lungs. 🙄
Well! Fancy meeting you here, Ro.
I often find myself thinking of what the Biden administration will look like.
Because, once this whole thing is over, a lot of people will be updating their resumes...and looking for lawyers.
She was such impressive character on TV
Oh to hear Spencer speak again ❤😭
Crap, crap, crap, crap ! I should have known NOT to watch this. Now I have to go binge watch every freaking episode on Netflix A G A I N !! And when I say again, I mean, this will be literally no joke my fifth time in a year. Every . Freaking. Episode. Oh well !
" ( referring to the crowds in the video and how everyone was getting along.... I felt so sorry for him and for the younger ones today. That is how we were ! That's how I grew up ! Even in the south, there was NO racial bs . We just had fun together and all that.
It's been 3 months since I binged this show, 3 months to long. Time to sit back an enjoy
But you'll laugh and cry and remember what it is like to be inspired by an administration.
Is this featurette from a season WW bundle? If so, which one? Edit 14:45 Season 5?
Here are my top 5 favorite characters from the show
1. Toby
2. CJ
3. Josh
4. Leo
5. Charlie
Would love to see full episodes . Probably never happen .
Such a brilliant series with so many standout performances, and you could definitely say Allison's was one of if not the best. Don't know how much of that was how the character was written but CJ always seemed to be perhaps the best person in the Bartlett administration, good, kind and just without being overbearing (generally). I wish there were series this well written and acted today, but nothing seems close these days.
Watch this with closed captions on
I can’t imagine anyone but Allison Janney in this role. Like Dame Maggie Smith, it just would not be the same show without her.
