At the end of the day, it's up to the landlord to set what rent he wants, and as far as I know, most of these places are owned by Colombians. I would have been more on her side if she had placed equal or more blame on greedy Colombian landlords, but as far as I can see, she thinks it's 100% the tourists fault, the landlords have no blame whatsoever.
Is it our fault that the landlords are raising the rent? Is it the same feeling when her country folks come to the USA, get food stamps, cash aid, health care, education, etc. Which we pay for out of taxes. Which raises our cost of living. And there’s so many coming to the USA. They want our money but not us.
It seems so but we need to stop taking. Our Asses over there. The visits have gotten old for them. They are not as interested in black men. Plus criminal gangs in collaboration with the Mexican cartel have put a hit on travelers. The cure is to go there without the women on mind just for the environment. Which will be damn near impossible. We just need to leave it for 2 yrs straight and notice the difference. See if black travelers get taken out after a brief 2 yr boycott.

I really understand and agree with what she’s saying about the negative effects that foreigners visiting and living in their countries has had on the economy. She even acknowledged the positive impact that foreigners has had on their country. With everything being considered I think the majority of the locals would prefer foreigners to just stay away.
The question makes the false assumption that all men love latinas, but that is simply not the case. Personally, I would much rather be with an attractive, smart African American woman. And I am not African American myself. I am white European. So maybe the answer to the question is "the grass is always greener". This is also underscored by the fact that a lot of latino men want to be with American or European women.
This was a great interview and she is a very well-informed young lady very smart too. But just like Americans, she sees things from her side and we see things from our side… Many of us come to Medellin Colombia because it’s so economical compared to many places in the states we would like to live there like you, but that’s not available to all of us but like I said it’s only right for us both to see it from each point of view, and lean toward the part of it that affects us.
here recently the new mayor of Medellin is trying to regulate Airbnb, and lets talk about government employees not getting paid for months, you think that maybe a reason for economic issues, how about bad weather and people losing properties, issues in the countries next to Colombian? The truth is there are not enough gringos coming to Colombia to effect the economics adversely, in fact it is a stimulus. Venezuelans have effected the economics more than any other foreigner from a western country. Venezuelans have introduced some social complexities via higher education in some sectors and on the other hand, people that need help economically. It is a complex problem but is has simple solutions that the government can implement

So much to unpack, this has to be the most honest interview. It’s very interesting to understand what the locals view on gringos. I think greedy landlords is the dilemma not the gringos. And the locals have to pay the price,as well as gringos pay “Gringo Prices “. Another awesome video Kari.
It was all good when she thought he was a visiting gringo on vacation spending all his money there. But when she found out he was a resident, she was saying Kari needed to pack up and leave. She got played, and she played herself. Hehe.
She is dead wrong. Colombians come to America make money send back home to feed their families. The influx of foreign dollars is responsible for many Colombians living a better life. She said the quiet part out load. She wants all of the benefits and none of the baggage. I understand but I think she doesn't truly understand the impact without foreign dollars. The whole is being blamed for the actions of a very few. I live 60% in Thailand and my brother live 70% in Bogota we both pay 12%Thai & Colombian taxes as well as 23% US taxes.

The majority are from Valenzuela not Colombia . Also their are people from ccp , Russians , and others not soley Colombia . Fyi the Hispanic cultures take care of there own which differs to the African American community
it's a disingenuous argument without the real data, because there are not enough foreigners going to Colombia, and the current visitors are weekend warriors Migration Trend to Colombia Colombia has experienced a significant increase in immigration in recent years, primarily due to the Venezuelan crisis. Key Trends: Surge in Venezuelan migrants: The most notable trend is the massive influx of Venezuelans seeking refuge or better economic opportunities in Colombia. This began to accelerate around 2016 and has continued since. Regional migration: While Venezuelans constitute the largest group, Colombia also receives migrants from other neighboring countries and further afield. Impact of COVID-19: The pandemic temporarily slowed migration flows, but numbers have rebounded since then.
You are right Kari. Reason is we (United States) have allowed many undocumented migrants to come here without them contributing little to nothing in the way of taxes while we have given many freebies in many of our major cities in the past 5 years to assist them. Also most gringos live in the richest areas of Medellin which they are focused around only 2-3 municipalities in the Medellin metro so most are not affecting the average Colombian, they're affecting mostly only the rich people areas when she talks about this apartment rent situation because you living in Niquia (Bello) is an outlier since its rare to find gringos living up there. Likewise this same scenario applies in the other foreign tourist cities in Colombia which are Cartagena and Bogota. Gringos are creating new jobs and good jobs that can be had by other Colombians with the right skills such as like her (being able to speak and understand English) because of this. It would be much different if many gringos were coming to Colombia to live and invest in the slums which would be a major problem for the lower class but the overwhelming majority of gringos are not doing such a thing.

people like the use the word gentrification and don't know what it means. Gentrification the process whereby the character of a poor urban area is changed by wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, often displacing current inhabitants in the process. where are people being displaced by foreigners? Great interview bro... but if Colombian service in resturants sucks, she is very bright, and educated, I think she doesnt understand the whole process bro
She has same opinion about foreigners as all other uneducated people. You need to understand economy to understand positive effect of tourism on Colombia. Colombia made 9 billion dollars on foreign tourists in 2023. Protectionism is not solution, stop blaming tourists for all your problems.
she probably just needs to sell one a month to cover the store expenses and make some money for herself. a store like that in the middle of a street not even in a mall screams fake knockoff, which is fine if the price is $100 or less but they scamming
She said it all when she said that they want your money but you can’t live there. That’s the exact mentality that is causing the increase in prices. So basically she wants your money but doesn’t want to provide anything in return. This sounds entitled and childish. What’s really disturbing is how they never find fault in anything they do, it’s always someone else’s fault. That’s a very dangerous, limiting, and simply immature mentality to have. Kari, this could also be why you’re feeling depressed like you mentioned in your other video. I’m sure you’ve been told that you’re the problem on more than one occasion when you’re actually a good person. That’s why you got a bit defensive and explained yourself, yet she still said you’re the problem. It’s only a matter of time before it begins to truly wear on you emotionally.
you know they fake, no way a store in the middle of a normal street like that got real legit luxury watches, only if its in one of the big malls like santafe or el tesoro would that be believable which is where colombians that have money usually go to buy expensive items. they just buy good quality knockoff items to sell thats their hustle.
