John Brown only committed one sin: he died too early to continue his fight against total injustice.

@Samuel Nowe That is the question of the movie. How many wrongs make something right, wrong. And, when you start pondering that even for a moment; are ye now on the side of the wrong?
      Go see it.

It is based on a book that was never intended to be historically accurate. Take it for what it is... an entertaining, well- made series.

Remember this my historically literate friend, most people don’t give a fuck, nor could give a fuck if they wanted, it’s the way it is
This way, people atleast learn a basic version of it, and those who have the yearn to learn more of it, do so

I would not bother watching this, it makes John Brown out to be a loud-mouth . . . . I am a descendant of John Brown . . . . . men of action like John Brown are rarely the ones who make a lot of noise. The loud ones are usually the biggest cowards. This Hollywood portrayal is a crock of shit if you ask me, and I like Ethan Hawke, but this sucks and really goes off the rails due to the stupid acting.

Indeed, a first hand account of Brown by his friend Alex Hawes has this to say: John was brusque with a sarcastic sense humor. While remaining astonishingly cool under pressure.
I think the show/book is depicting the myth of John Brown as a ideological zealot with a burning passion. For the sake of narrative the character expresses this outwardly with his wild demeanor. More to entertain the audience than to be accurate. The real life Brown was just as passionate but he wasn't playing to an audience. I think we can appreciate both the man and myth. :)
