True. But throws, locks and the like were in Karate long before Mas Oyama learned anything.

YES kyokushin karate can be a form of self defence! Don't forget the Sosai Oyama learnt Aiki-jujutsu!

@@RichQ6666 You know funny enough, there was a site that explained Mas Oyama relationship with Aikijujutsu and why he chose it as a base for self defense for the Kyokushin style.
But the problem is that, this site i speak of is nowhere to be found, i tried, but i can't find it, it was easy too. "Kyokushin and Aikijujutsu" or "Mas Oyama and Aikijujutsu" and bam, there was the site.
It wasn't a cheap looking site either it was pretty solid build.
But im curious what's this thing your working on it as well.

@@MidnightBikerHostility Oyama learnt under Daito-ryu aikijujutsu master Yoshida Kotaro (who was a direct student of the founder, Takeda Sokaku). Oyama mentions Yoshida in his book "This is karate". He also received a scroll from Yoshida.
Thing go crazy at this point, since some are claiming that Oyama got "menkyo kaiden" (license of full transmission) in Daito-ryu. Which is obviously not the case, he got something unique from Yoshida, which was not a traditional Daito-ryu scroll. I was lucky enough to get a good resolution picture of the scroll (which is actually readable if you know Japanese) so I was able to transcribe and translate it (mostly it's a list of techniques anyway).
However many self-defence techniques can be seen in Oyama's book What is Karate, This is Karate, Advanced Karate and Essential Karate which can also be found in Daito-ryu. In the writing of the oirignal 1958 "What is karate" was cooperated with Richard Kim (a long time student of Yoshida Kotaro, it is possible that Kim intorduced Oyama to Yoshida), and supposedly it also contained these techniques early on (I have yet to get access to a copy to verify that for sure).
I wouldn't say Oyama competely based on it. I think it worked more like an addition to his karate just like judo, taikiken etc.
In Bobby Lowe's video and book contains a lot of judo, aikido and Daito-ryu aikijujutsu techniques for sure. It also overlaps with some techniques in Oyama’s books, but I have yet to do the statistics to see, how much of it. What is likely that Lowe also added his own ideas/experience to the mix (I’ve read that he might have learn Danzan-ryu jujutsu and Yoshinkan aikido in Hawaii prior meeting Oyama, but that’s something yet to be confirmed).
I am writing the paper right now. So hopefully next year or after the publication will be done in an open access scientific journal.

Goshin-Jutsu training should never be ignored as tournament fighting will not...REPEAT: WILL NOT WORK in the streets...Good techniques with clarity from the late Shihan Lowe....OSU!!!

if grabbed like this (~#1)just hit the attacker, do not waste time with the wrist lock, you will be hit before you can pull it off. Try this with gloves and a head guard on with the attacker hitting you as they grab your wrist.

Esse tipo de auto-defesa do Kyokushin é bem elaborado, porém, muito pouco efetivo em utilizações reais...
Quem é praticante de artes marciais, assim como eu, irá entender o que estou dizendo.
