I just recently heard of WLED coming from Home Assistant and ESPhome, I didn't even know it was an option. Thanks for the overview I'll probably try it out on my next build. I'm excited we have so many easy to use options!
WLED latest versions are unfortunately not that stable on esp8266 . Otherwise it is one of the best firmware for leds mainly due to easy of flashing and internal effects
The one FX that's not working, is a sound reactive one, you need a microphone attached to the esp to make it works. all sound reactive fx are marked with a musical note.
I use WLED for a number of things from interesting art pieces, 2d matrix displays, and even my stair lights. In fact, my stair lights is a combination of WLED and two nodes running ESPHome with the automations being handled with Home Assistant. WLED is quite amazing and if you know C++, you can write your own usermods (which I've done).
i can tell you wled is worse then esphome wled CCT channel does not work correctly with home assistant still after over a year if you use both with analog pwm led, you will realize wled flicker both in camera and in real life, esphome with 1000hz software pwm does not flicker at all unless you are using it for huge led matrix, esphome is just better in every way i switched to wled but the experience is worse, i just wanted to sync them with music
there is 2D matrx version too.

You can set a maximum current amount for the leds if a board or power supply is power limited to probably get rid of the connection issues.
True.. I stumbled over this parameter in the video as well, but didn't think of trying it out immediately.. Would be a good try indeed.
