    This video helped me win a bet. I showed up to a drop in game wearing this jersey and someone asked why I was wearing a Dallas jersey. I said it was actually a North Stars jersey and they were like, “The North Stars NEVER wore this jersey.” And I was like, “Check out this scene from Mighty Ducks. They’re not in Dallas!”

      I’m a Dallas fan and have one of these jerseys. I’ve had people call me out for wearing a fake jersey because it doesn’t say Dallas or have the Texas patches on the shoulders lol
      Norm Green was preparing for the relocation long before it happened and the rebranding was part of it. A lot of Texans weren’t fans of hockey until the Stars showed up in 1993, so most have no idea they wore practically the exact same jerseys for a couple years in Minnesota

    • @danbratten3103
      @danbratten3103 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ThorCarlton not entirely true. Norm Green was on the NHL's board called NHL vision for the 90s. One of the things the board suggested for growth in the 90s was new logos and uniforms. One of the first things Norm did once he had control of the North Stars was getting team president Lou Nanne to find someone to design a new crest. There were a few different prototype jerseys designed. One of them included both logos.
      Now Norm did all of that before he spent $20 million of his own money renovating the Met Center, which he didn't even own. So the new logo wasn't part of leaving Minnesota. People just like to think that.

    • @ThorCarlton
      @ThorCarlton 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@danbratten3103 I don’t doubt that it was planned, as a lot of the teams changed their jerseys and logos for the 1991-92 season/75th anniversary, but some of the design changed were made with relocation in mind, such as dropping any reference to the North and neutralizing the colors a bit to make them more marketable in other areas. He tried moving the team to Anaheim a couple years before moving to Dallas, but the league gave Anaheim to Disney.
      I guess it’s wrong to say the rebrand was with the intention of moving, but Norm definitely had the possibility of relocation in mind when they did it.

    Mike Modano is my cousin. I remember watching him play hockey in the street in Livonia Michigan in his teens when I was like 3. He joined the north stars, got kinda famous, and I didn't see him much after. And then I went and watched this in the theater and saw my cousin. It was really cool. No one in the fam even knew he was in it.

    I still wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat yelling NORM GREEN SUCKS!!

    • @danbratten3103
      @danbratten3103 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It wasn't Norm Green's fault. Blame the Metropolitan Sports Commission, who owned the Met, who never helped with renovations to the Met. The Gund Bros, who owned the team in the late 70s and 80s, had to spend their own money to put a few suites in. Norm Green spent $20 million of his own money renovating the Met.
      Also, blame the fair-weather fans in the Twin Cities for not supporting the team better. The original owners almost folded the team in the late 70s because of horrible attendance. The league instead merged the North Stars with the equally troubled Cleveland Barons with the Gund Bros, who owned the Barons, taking ownership of the North Stars.
      By the late 80s, attendance at games was in the toilet. In fact, the 89-90 season, the North Stars were dead last in attendance. Without decent support from the local fans & the Sports Commision, the Gunds made plans to move the North Stars to San Jose after the 89-90 season. The Star Tribune and Channel 5 News did a poll asking people if they'd care if the North Stars left. 60% said they didn't care.
      The league did a deal allowing the Gunds the San Jose market and leave the Stars in Minnesota to new owners. 2 guys bought the team but were soon in money trouble, and they sold the team to Norm Green. The run to the finals and a buy 2 get 1 season ticket promo boosted for the remainder of the 90-91 & 91-92 season boosted attendance late in 90-91 season and into the next season. But with the promo ending for the 92-93 season and the team playing poorly, attendance dropped again. The league had enough and gave Norm Green permission to look for a different market.

      @@danbratten3103 That's a great and objective summary. The MSC and the twin cities authorities kept on shutting the door on Green's face when he proposed several projects and improvements to make the franchise viable (connecting the Met Center to the Mall of America, renovating the old Civic Centre in St-Paul, etc). It's always easier to depict Green as a bad guy and claim all sorts of urban legends, fantasies and feeling better about it but he did everything he could to keep the team in Minnesota. I'm a original North Stars fan and moved my fandom south with the team. I was pissed when they moved but that ballsy move turned out to be a successful one and Minnesota finally woke up and built a great arena in downtown St-Paul for its new NHL franchise.
