I find most of the DC bands timid in their recordings. It's because it's a studio recording, and they are trying too hard to be perfect. They need an audience to shine. I know I do.
Or alternatively, you don’t like the tempo, so you’ll whine. Having played this numerous times in its original historical time frame, sounds just about right to me. AND the US Marine Band plays plenty of things at really rapid tempi, so I guess that’s the way the director chose to interpret this piece. Good job!
