William MacEwan recorded this song on a gramophone cylinder in 1911. He was a Scottish street preacher and singer. No one has yet posted a video of his singing of this gospel song from Alexander’s Hymn Book.
@@madlyderanged It went very well. I was surprised, since I had to get it together so fast. My only goof was forgetting the slowdown on my first repeat of the chorus. No one noticed, of course. Otherwise, smooth sailing. Playing along with your file helped me practice, so thanks.
This is great, and at the right tempo. (I am forgiving you for "cheating" on the left hand in the chorus.) Now all it needs is a congregation that is not afraid to take a deep breath, stand on tiptoe, and sing it so the Methodists across the street can hear them.
Yes, I did 'cheat' but it was a deliberate stylistic change to make the song a bit more modern sounding and appealing. Unfortunately, these songs are not sung in churches (to my knowledge) by congregations, however, it was recently done by my church choir a few weeks ago; it is always a big hit.
@@madlyderanged, I was just poking fun with you a bit. There are very few good videos out there of this hymn being sung as it is written. Maybe your choir is a good next video project! :-)

Was looking for this so long. I thought folks weren't into these old hymns anymore, thanks
Golda Ganeshdin I am...glory be to God.
Amen,@@madlyderanged. And you have blessed us thereby.
Fabulous hymn! Playing it tomorrow for a special piece.
Quite busy in the chorus. Let me know how it goes.
@@madlyderanged Thanks. Yeah, one false hand position, and all is lost! Those triplets are crazy.

@@AmosPressley I will see if the church did a recording of the choir.
