In this DIY tutorial, Wes will show you step-by-step how to build a garden bench that is not only sturdy and durable, but also incredibly comfortable to sit on. You will be surprised how he accomplishes that. So...if you are looking to add extra seating to your outdoor space or simply want to create a cozy spot to relax in your garden, this project is perfect for beginners and seasoned DIYers alike.

I think I have figured out most of the dimensions.
3 1x6x8 for the 6 back legs/back staves - each about 42" long
The slope starts at 19" and ends about 2 1/2" from the back. You will need either a very long leg tapering jig, or a sled to hold down the staves at an angle, while you cut the slope, or you may need to tack some boards to a piece of plywood and make your own custom jig. This turned out to be the longest step for me.
6 1x4x8 for everything else
The front legs are 19" long; the pieces in the middle are 5" and 7" with 3 1/2" gaps between and after them.
The staves that hold up the seat lathes are 24" long in the middle, with both side pieces being 15" long; 9" of the 24" are for the 2 mortises - 5 1/2 and 3 1/2"
A 3/4" Round Over Router bit is probably best to make the crown at the top of the back, and the crown at the front of the seat.
The seat lathes are 47 7/8" long; some of the lathes are cut in half for comfort.
Add 2" deck screws and Titebond 3 to the shopping list.
Since we are using 8' lengths of pine, there is very little waste. They can be cut in half, although that means that rather than 24" pieces, they will really be 23 15/16" and 48" pieces will really be 47 15/16". No one will notice.
thanks nso much for these build details..
Thank you so much for posting this. I am currently doing a video which will include all the measurements for the bench. Wes
That’s a great looking bench Wes! Excellent video, I really enjoyed it.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌👌👌👌
So glad I found your channel!
I'm so glad you did too! Thank you!! Wes
The only thing I don’t like is all the screws! Wow! I use a lot of dowels in a case like this. But not as many as these screws. But I do like the bench., I think I’ll try it
Hi wes, Are there plans available and maybe a template for the seat. Great project!!!
I am currently doing a video which will include all the measurements for the bench. Thank you! Wes
Wes nice build , I didn’t see the cut list or dimensions on some parts. For this build

I really like how your design simplifies the joinery. It would be a bonus if you shared a few more dimensions. So far, 1/3 of the comments are about dimensions. your videos are a treat. thanks
Thank you Bob. I am currently doing a video which will include all the measurements for the bench. Wes
@WoodworkingWithWes looking forward to the measurements and the design that includes bench arm rests.
Really good project
Thanks for watching, Wes
Enjoy your videos. Do you have plans or measurements for this bench?
Great build, would like to see plans for curve, back angle and dimensions.

Great, looking forward, especially comfort seat and back angle. Bench looks like something I could build for my yard.@@WoodworkingWithWes
Great job again Wes ❤
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
Do you have plans that we could follow?

I missed it, what was the hidden feature? The fact that 3 pieces make up the legs?
Hi Wes A great build but would appreciate some plans

Great project! I used my mother-in-law's toothbrush to complete my bench, and she really seemed to like it.
Great video, Wes. Enjoyed this one, too. Like always 😊
I wish you would have shown how to build the legs. Video begins with them complete except for the middle part for the M&T. Overall nice bench. I want to build this. I suppose I can wing it for the legs.

Hi From the UK. Wes I’m looking forward to the arms video. Very good instructional video. I will have to watch again Justin case I missed some of the dims.

Some arms sound good…wide enough to place a mug or wine glass on 😊
Always enjoy your builds Wes! You’re the best! I was wondering how you clean the wood glue off the melamine table. Thanks
You can use a wet cloth or just wait for it to dry and it will come off pretty easily with your finger nail or something like a chisel.
Thanks David 😊
Hey Wes, great build! Any idea on how many board feet this required? My parents had a tree cut & milled and theyd like a bench made with it. Im wondering if its enough material to make this.
Thanks!

@@WoodworkingWithWes Oh ok awesome! Thanks!!
Great build! What angle is the back tilted? Also, is the curve for the seat based on a French curve?

Do you have a cut list that you can share with us?

What finish do you use on your outdoor furniture?
Hi...typically I use a deck stain type of finish. There are many available. Thanks for watching, Wes
Hi From the UK….Are you using a star bit [torx] screws
Not speaking for Wes but yes, those deck screws are typically Torx drive. They even come with the correct bit or two.
Plans please.

Great video overall. The only thing I saw that was missing was that you never explain how you made and put together the legs for your bench. Except for that your video was very informative.

Come on guys. Wes figured out the design and his cut list, if you are any kind of wood workers you should be able to do the same. Be original.
