Once you take all the context into consideration, you realize that, other than Shoya, Ueno had the largest amount of growth as a character throughout the entire movie. I only watched a Silent Voice once when it came out and the only characters I could remember were Shoko, Shoya, and Ueno.
Yeah thats true. SHOYA and Uneo are the only characters are trying to rise above their past but the rest of the cast of characters, even Shoko are pretty flat or one-note in comparison in terms of character depth or development.
Naoka is definitely, to say the least, a interesting case of a character of contradictions. While Naoka can be and is a toxic person but something of a multifaceted personality, as she is not completely heartless and can be honest, but its held back by her own personal baggage. Great analysis 👍 👏 video of her character and personality, i feel like i am seeing a lot of Analysis videos of A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) ever since the movie but yours was very clear cut and much easier to understand. Hey just wondering, are you going to make a video on the other side characters of A Silent Voice like Kawai Miki which you made clear is a worse character than Naoka although I may disagree with it while she is not as multifaceted as Naoka and partly a bit biased as I don't really hate her as much as majority as other viewers/readers do as I just love the main cast of Koe no Katachi. So while not as much character growth as the other cast of friends but she is a interesting case study of always being inside your own bubble.
I disagree Naoka isn't the worst female character in anime. Chizuru from rent a girlfriend is gazillion times worst than Naoka, Chizuru can even replace Satan in his throne. She's so good hurting others even if she didn't mean to yet she does it anyway. Too indecisiveness, often acts cool she feels like she's invincible, often runs away from confrontations instead of facing ut lefts you hanging without any explanation like she can ghost someone without explaining why she did that. Chizuru is the devil herself. Haters of that manga are all laser focusing the MC he really doesn't deserve all the hate because he has redeeming qualities that western audiences often discards it and blindly labelled him as "simp" meanwhile Chizuru is the reason why that manga is being dragged and 90% of the worst moments was all done by her actions especially that cursed resort arc. Being rejected will be the best thing she can do to the MC so he can move on but Chizuru can't say it instead she's the one who's dragging the lie to their families that they're in a fake relationship instead of telling the truth.
