I'm going overseas for 10 days in a few months and have been watching packing videos for days. Yours is by far some of the best advice I've heard. The tip to take pictures of my perscriptions is genius! Thank you for not making this an "influencer" type of video but something actually useful.
Finally, someone who addresses the weight issue!! Thank you!! Have been binge watching packing videos of late; ex cabin crew here so I am fairly experienced vis a vis packing but always game to learn something new. Have been marveling at how people can cheerfully chat about packing for 10/20/30 days hand carry only and not once mention that cabin carryon for most airlines has a limit of 7 (kg in my part of the world) and everywhere I’ve travelled they have more often than not, actually weighed pax hand carry. In Manchester airport once they weighed, at check in and AGAIN just before boarding…….. Really enjoyed your video and I appreciate the no nonsense approach. Thank you😊
I bring a box of art supplies too. A few years back my husband and I took a trip to Africa. He is a musician so I knew he would be unhappy for a long time without a guitar so I found and bought him a traveling guitar. He loved and still does love it!
I know you hear this all the time, but your packing videos changed my life. I’ve been a successful and happy one bag traveller for years now. It was fun to see an updated packing video full of great tips, as always. All the best to you!
I could not find a cute lightweight daybag that I liked so I put a zipper into a cute, super lightweight shopping bag for a daybag/overflow bag. I also have put interior zip pockets into jean jackets and other clothes so I have a secure passport/phone pocket when needed. Some of my favorite sewing projects!
@@karenhenry5806 All you need is a straight stitch and you can sew almost anything! Find a local sewing machine dealer and ask about basic classes, or meet the teacher. Even if you don’t end up doing the sewing yourself, they’ll know people to recommend who can do these simple things for you! I spent years doing alterations on the side of my day jobs (including being a sewing teacher lol) and adding a zipper or some secret pockets would’ve been no big deal and not much $$. Also, save or thrift anything out of tech fabric, like old packing cubes, rain jackets or backpacks - they’re great to use for really lightweight, durable scrap fabric for those pockets and such!
LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage. People grab luggage at the turnstile and take it home before you ever see it. Anywhere you put your bag, it could be grabbed in error. Example: overhead compartment, unloaded from the bus, at the hotel lobby, at the airport turnstile... These ribbons make your luggage different and EASY TO SPOT when the piece is surrounded by 35 other cases unloaded from the bus. Using 4 ribbons make it immediately different than other cases with 1 ribbon. Use 1” wide ribbons 14” long and not longer. Cut the ends at 45 degrees. Tie the ribbons as a sandwich, as if they were one ribbon. Use a man’s tie, a half Windsor knot for the best look. After it is tied on, the total length of the ribbons will be about 5 inches from the handle. This is too short to catch on anything such as rollers. Scissor cut trim the ribbons to cascading different lengths after they are tied. Put a drop of Super Glue at the end. If each ribbon is slightly a different length by 1/4” the color layers will all show up no matter how they drape. You can see these ribbons from 40 feet away. Perhaps tie TWO handles or RINGS top and side of the case. Tie using a HALF WINDSOR KNOT to the metal buckle ring of the handle. Learn Half Windsor knot tying: It is the 2nd example in this video th-cam.com/video/X0yh5rKB9lE/w-d-xo.html This knot does not loosen. Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie. Example: “Owner 454-333-7878” No personal name necessary. No address necessary on the ribbon. Choose one ribbon with an unusual pattern or fabric to really make it unique. The 4th ribbon could be black color. Stand by the output port of the turnstile to reduce the chance of someone else grabbing your piece. Tie your skiies, duffel bag, backpack and what ever else with matching ribbons-even your computer case. If you are a Travel Agent, you could hot gold stamp one ribbon with your name and phone number. Send them a set of ribbons, red and blue and BLACK to your customer as a gift. Record this gift in your database so you don’t duplicate yourself. Buy a gold hot embossing machine. Gold emboss your business name on the BLACK ribbon. Put the customer’s name on it if possible. Pleasant color combinations: Red, white and blue Chartreuse and purple and orange Orange and light blue Orange and yellow Gray and pink Green and yellow Red and Green Red and Gold Light blue and light green and white The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on. Then another picture of the full luggage piece. You now have a way to communicate “what it looks like” if someone is tasked with searching for it. Take this picture outside in direct sun not under neon lights. Tip #3 Place a strip of colored duct tape on the inside lining to your case. Put TWO pieces in DIFFERENT places such as INSIDE a pocket to the case. If you dare, put your phone number DIRECTLY ON THE FABRIC Liner of the case WITHOUT USING TAPE. Or, put your name and phone number on this tape. If all identity is stripped from your case, you have this to show. If someone steals it and rips off identity tags, you can show the police officer the inside tape... To be sneaky about the tape, put your phone number on the STICKY side of the tape. Nothing is on the surface side of this tape. Tip #4 Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet. Use colored Duct tape, such as black or red or neon, to tape this message to the top side of the handle. This message is under the tape hidden from view. The lettering does not touch the sticky part. Wrap it 2-3 times. Also include Tips 1,2,3 above. If you need to prove identity of the case, just unwrap it and show. Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS 4 ribbons 1 designer ribbon colored taped handle stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2 1/2” stencil letter or number or word to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here. Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon. Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”. Put a travel sticker on the case. Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE It is less than $15. ..
I put my initials with “white out “( liquid paper) on my black suitcase, on the different sides. It doesn’t look pretty, but I can identify my bag from the distance.
Never want to check-in ever ..lastvtime bag was lost twice came back almost got lost and taken a further twice! Am in quandry as wont have anywhere to leave things in uk..
I've been watching your content for a few years. Thanks for the updated packing video. You got me started on ultralight/one bag philosophy. Something I recommend is linking some of the products into the description of the video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I’m so glad to have found you. I’m a really experienced carry on traveler but I actually learned a lot from you. My makeup tip is that I bought a Japanese pencil case that stands upright when its unzipped. All my travel makeup is in wand form and fits into the pencil case. I buy shampoo, creams, sunscreen at my destination and abandon them at the end if I need to.
71 years old and a bad back and can not put a backpack on my back. Had a Rick Steves backpack when I was 38-46 years old. My bag is a Maxpro Lite 5 5.4 lbs. You need to do a winter packing video.
I tend to travel with mostly dresses so I don’t have to worry about matching tops and bottoms. I bring a couple pairs of leggings and a cardigan for days when it is cold.
I wear my jeans, sweatshirt and jacket with heavy walking shoes on the plane. (I'm always cold on a plane anyway) that frees up a lot of space/weight in the bag.
Superb video! 👌😃. Please please please link the items you show. I so often can’t find the item because I don’t get the spelling or version or whatever right. It would benefit you and us!
Thanks Sarah! I've been picking up a pair of exOfficio underwear one a time for years....I just wait for the "new" colors and buy the old, discontinued colors for much less.
Besides trying on your clothes I would recommend actually wearing for a while in a real life situation. On my last trip, a cruise, I had a dress I had been saving for such a situation. It worked when I tried it on. But actually wearing it was a total disaster. Luckily I had a really large shawl for cover.
Wonderful video and tips. A tip is to practice lifting your carryon bag over your head. I believe you said this on the RS series. My story is that my husband who did most of our lifting hurt his shoulder while skiing. I was able to lift the bags to the overhead bins on planes, trains and busses. Look forward to your next videos. Shoes are hard because everyone has different feet, issues. But there NO faster way to ruin a trip than with the wrong shoes.
Yes, I usually do give that advice. I tried to trim down my 90 minute talk to an hour, (which is why I omitted some things) but will be doing a few in depth follow-ups.
Being a more mature woman, I look around for a strong young man, smile, and politely ask if he can lift my bag for me. People are so helpful when traveling.
I almost got arrested in Aruba for having my prescriptions in a pill case instead of the bottles. Fortunately they were able to get ahold of my doctor who confirmed my prescriptions. If he wouldn't been in that day, I would of been screwed! Be safe!
Hi, love that you did a deep dive into feminine hygiene. I wonder why you bring seven underpants when you are washing them out each night? I travel with only four and wash one out each nigh! Not much space savings but a bit. Also, on most of the travel tip videos everyone seems to be going to warm climates. What about packing for colder places?? Would love to see weight and space saving ideas for those countries.
Sarah is the Queen of packing light! I recommend her videos all the time. Two of my favorite travel hacks are Colorescience powdered sunscreen and packing several ultralight scarves for tons of visual variety in almost no space. I also love my crushable UPF 50 large brim ribbon braided sunhat from San Diego Hat Company.
After traveling the globe the biggest lessons for me- always bring OTC medication. I’m migraine prone and was told Italy has everything at the pharmacia. Well you need to be near one and it has to be open. The hotels aren’t allowed to hand out Advil and the petro station won’t have it. Also Anatomie pants weigh nothing and dry in about an hour. I wear them when not traveling since they’ve held up for years. Working in Dermatology, spf clothing is a must and daily spf of 30 or more liberally applied outweighs any makeup decision. I get a tinted Zinc based spf 50. Powder spf provide too many skip areas to be effective. My 2 cents. Love these videos.
Sarah, have you ever looked into the Macabi trekking skirts? They are my go-to bottom: midi length, full, capacious pockets and zip security pocket, quick drying. They are cooler than pants or capris but you can wear leggings underneath if cold (or knee socks and silk short johns). I had red wine spilled in my lap in Sicily and just mopped it up with napkins and didn’t even have to wash the skirt! I carry my sketch/watercolor kit in a pocket since I love travel art journaling-glad you recommend that.
If I hadn't already subscribed, you would have had me at a skirt being extra air conditioning! Is there something stronger than a "like" for this video 😂❤
What a great video! Thank you! I especially appreciate the tip about weighing things … it honestly never occurred to me! I was only concerned that I could fit everything in the suitcase and still close it! 😂 PS I did do a couple really smart things on a recent trip to Europe… I only filled my rolling carry-on suitcase halfway and packed a large empty Lug duffel bag inside. On the way back, I checked the rolling suitcase and carried my duffel. Also, I have a zip up tote bag from Aloha that is made to take to the beach and carry wet swimsuits, and I used that as my carry-on purse. It is super lightweight and I figured I could always pack it and carry on a large leather bag if I bought one in Italy. It was also useful as a shopping bag during the trip.
32 degrees has some cooling tanks with built in bras. I bought them for about $8 each in winter on when they are normally more during summer. They are great for travel.
I see a lot of travelers these days traveling with these hard shell rollers which weigh almost 10 lbs by themselves.. I use a Osprey Porter 46 which weighs 3.2 lbs
Love you content - you inspired me to travel carry-on, and I've been doing it for several years. I switched to toothpaste tablets (even at home). I use a repurposed mint tin. I can fit 100 tabs in a tin - that's a month+ of toothpaste.
Great video! I appreciated your “real talk” segment. I learned about the importance of weighing items from one of your earlier videos, and although I haven’t taken my scales shopping with me (yet) I did weigh everything for our trip to New Zealand in November 2019, the last time we travelled internationally. Whenever I was trying to decide between two similar items, I would take the weight into consideration and choose the lighter of the two. This helped me stay under Air New Zealand’s 7 kg (15 lbs) carry-on limit. I look forward to your future videos and learning more travel tips!
Most Airlines leaving NZ don't have a personal item either, 7 kgs for ONE piece of cabin luggage, generally put my smaller bag inside carryon, until I get to my seat. Use a vest with very deep pockets can hold all electronics plus camera, passport and wallet.
Yes to a video on travel luggage. I remember you saying in a prior video to consider 35L/14lbs or less. I haven't seen one with a hip belt, though. Capacity of the Tom Bihn Tristar? Thanks for the travel inspiration today!
This was AMAZINGLY helpful after looking at SO MANY packing videos...this really is THE BEST!!! After a "grand tour" post-college I started traveling on my own and always with one bag (I only used one large suitcase back in the 80's when I moved to London...and I mailed back a ton of stuff...did learn my lesson dealing with that thing on the Underground when I moved to a different place). But my "one bag" traveling was before all the TSA stuff, so I never worried about weight. You've really helped me catch up with the times if I get to travel one more time (I'm over 70 and mobility is a bit of an issue).
Thirty days from my 75th year w/two knee replacements (lost my love of 53 years this past August) and have gone on to trips to the Caribbean in 23-24 and just booked a 2025 trip to Canada, Iceland and Greenland ---- one step at a time until I can't!!!!!
This was excellent and some basics some may already know included but what I found fantastic was….bring a creative outlet. I crotchet cuz I can’t sit still butt I have a drawing tablet and pencils and it’ll be a great way to find a common thread with my artistic DIL when I travel this week! I wouldnt have thought of that Thanks so much for sharing your tips and experiences! I’m an introvert yet having strangers visit with you over a common thread can be fun and fulfilling also love the pack few days prior. I have twice and it’s amazing how much MORE fine tuned one can be which will = less stress
Also, sometimes the airlines will say that there is not enough room in the overhead bins and will require you to check in your bag. This will rarely be a problem with a backpack.
Sarah, I love the paste deodorant as well. I typically buy from Little Seed Farm and you are always allowed 3 samples when you purchase. These samples are flat and lightweight and last a long time (perfect for travel carryon). I always enjoy your practical, helpful and encouraging videos. Thank you!
+1 for cold weather travel packing light. It's easy to get by on a few t-shirts in the Bahamas, but winter travel in Canada? Alaska trips? That's what I want to see solved in one-bag carryon.
Great tips, especially for the defined products, went to school overseas in the 80s and ran out of my supplies while there, the ones I had to purchase were horrible, hard and uncomfortable! The tip about pantiliners is also great and very effective ❤
Thank you. Can you please share the names of the items and where to buy/ order from including the Backpack, packing cube, toiletries, spf makeup, mascara, ,underwear, size of the cotton scarf, clothing manufacturers where to buy, tooth brush, cosmetics, shampoo/ conditioner flat bottles, multi charger, etc.
Thanks for addressing those issues for women and travel that nobody wants to talk about. For all you younger women out there - get a feminine cup! Life-changing! I wish I had known about them when I was younger. I used one on a trip to Europe and it was *almost* like not having your period. Only have to deal with it a couple times/day which is very freeing as you never know what the toilet situation is going to be like on the road.
Thank you for giving out information on underwear. Most packing videos skip over this information, but your info is very helpful and informative. Love all your packing videos, very helpful.
I bought “on gossamer”undies based on several recommendations. I actually didn’t like them when it was really hot because they don’t absorb sweat. Also, in the TMI category, if you have any issues with “leaks” as she says, be aware that pantyliners will not stick and I found that they retain odors. I tossed mine out in Italy a few weeks ago. Not a good investment for me. I also wash things out in the sink because I don’t like carrying around dirty clothes. I have bought several brands of special underwear but have since realized that my regular (cotton) undies will dry within a day if I wring them out with a microfiber travel/camp towel and hang them somewhere with good ventilation. The ones with the built-in pads are also very hard to wash out well in the sink. And they say you need to rinse them out at the end of the day before you toss them in the wash. And they take forever to dry.
I have a top with a shelf bra I bought from Travel Smith about 1999. I also have from Travel Smith a skirt, blouse and pants all color coordinated and reversible. Another pants and shirt from Travel Smith I have are very lightweight with lots of pockets and does dry overnight when washed in the sink. I’ve used them for hiking in Australia and other trips where I was in forested areas.
I am so glad to have found your packing advice video. The up to date information is rather helpful. Looking forward to applying these suggestions on an upcoming trip.
I've recently discovered you and am already addicted to your advise! One bit of info to share that has been helpful to me, maybe someone could find useful as well..LUSH makes solid toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, shave products, moisturizers, etc. You can get samples of anything that is plenty to last for a week of travel! Thanks for the helpful tips!
I just discovered your channel Sarah. OMG why have I not found your videos before? They are great. I'll be binge watching your other videos. You have the greatest recommendations. I agree with another commenter that you should link items you recommend for ease in shopping for your subscribers. It's great that travel is available to us again.
I'm a size 11 as well, Nordstrom Rack goes up to size 12! Dont be afraid to check the mens section (up to mens size 13) for sneakers, flip flops etc. They have a surplus of Vans, Converse, Nike etc and sometimes have even funkier colors than the womens section. I've even tried on some mens size 11s that fit me. I live in the mens shoe section for sneaker and hiking boots.
I’m traveling for a week 3 months from now and I’ve been planning for a couple months! I like the KISS method. What I plan on doing when I get to the destination is the main factor of my planning.
Thanks for all the info. I’d love to see more sustainable products, and options other than Amazon, fast fashion and throwaway clothes, for our planet. Great ideas though !
I love watching & listening to your travel-related presentations. I think your ideas will be really helpful the next trip I take. Would you please write the names of the products you showed us in this video? I know of Tom Bihn luggage but you mentioned another brand I'm unfamiliar with. Also, the spray deodorant, etc. Just a list under your video would be so helpful so we can see the spelling; doesn't even need to be links. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to your info on shoes too!
I use the bags my newspaper comes in (yes, I know it's archaic, but I still get newspaper home delivery) for my shoes, THEN I put them in packing cubes. They are free (if you get newspaper delivery) and that way, I keep my shoe packing cube clean and discard the newspaper bag when I get home if they are dirty (after all, I'm going to get another one tomorrow...)
🤩Wow! I literally just searched to see if you had an update to your Packing Light series!! I'm so excited to watch this!! I have transitioned to solid soap and lotions and I am curious if you or others are taking advantage of new solid soap products to remove liquid weight as well as unnecessary bottles. 🤓
Have experimented with toothpaste in a small container, it can last a few weeks. Last trip 60 days brought toothpaste, brush, deodorant and body lotion once I ran out of my samples, left them all behind when flying home.
The “air conditioning” got me! 😂🤣😂 I travel a ton, and my bag is usually 1/3 snacks, 1/3 books, a change of clothes, an eye mask and a set of earplugs. LOVED the tip about buying a local USB adapter. So smart!!! Will be picking one up immediately upon landing next time. Thanks for sharing.
I found a an amazing watercolor travel palette! The Watercolor FlipKit by Royal & Long Nickel is 18 colors, the water fillable brush, a sponge and a mixing tray that is so super compact. Dimensions are smaller than my cell phone an less than an inch deep! Hurray!! I can remember the maker of my other tracer art supply find, but it's a set of pastels. I am able to fit my small sketchbook) pad, give sketch pencils, the sharpener, eraser, two blending stumps, the watercolors, and the pastels in a small pencil pouch that I used to keep hooked in my 3 ring binder...and there's room to spare!
I use the palette that is made from a business card holder, holds 14 colors. I got it off Etsy, can’t remember the name, but it is amazing. So small and thin. I plan on taking to Europe in the fall, but I have to have real brushes, don’t care for the water brushes.
The sports bra bathing suit! I’m cruising from Miami to London and then two weeks in uk in January. I didn’t want to add bathing suit and coverup (and flip flops) but I think I can make this work! Also I have to recommend Snag tights for two reasons, lightweight merino tights are warm and layerable but also sizes for the tall and or large people
So excited to see this! I must've watched the original hundreds of times (and recommended it to so many ppl). Great to see updates - some great new tips about electronics especially. Now I'm looking forward to the shoe talk! Meanwhile I need to watch this 1 again and absorb more (Also, on the really thin backpacks: Ikea sell a backpack that folds away into itself - small square
Thanks so much. All other videos I’ve looked at take up tremendous space for toiletries. I’m a no makeup no face cream ritual person. So basics for me. Deodorant, toothpaste, , floss. . One of my tricks as well is a , very short haircut before the trip..
I got a short haircut after years of out of control medium long to long hair and it was a game changer. First thing I thought was traveling will be a breeze and it's super cute to boot. Can't wait til next February to try it out and of course get it cut again before I go. Happy travels.
Whether I pack light or heavy, depends on how many days my travel is, I always make sure I use my Nomad Lane Bento bag because it is a perfect travel bag for me! You'' love it too, Sarah!
I use my Bento bag as a personal item. Have you had success in using it as your main bag, especially when weight is a concern? It’s such a well designed bag.
I loved everything you said. I’m really looking forward to traveling again. How about your emergency kit? I usually travel with my kids and I need to be more prepared then an Eagle Scout. I’ve found ways to make a little kit that fits inside an altoid tin but I’d love to see any tips you have too.
Loqi brand reusable shopping bags come in a little zip pouch that I never use since the bags roll up and snap without. I repurposed a couple of the pouches; one for a basic first aid kit and one for a small sewing kit. They’re the perfect size (4.5” square) and very lightweight. Plus they come in beautiful art prints. I always bring along one of the loqi shopping totes too and keep it handy on the plane so I have a bag to quickly stuff my jacket into so I don’t have to put it on when deboarding at a hot destination. Loqi bags are made of recycled material, weigh 56 g (1.98 oz) and can carry up to 20 kg (44 lbs). I’m not a rep for these bags, I just really love them and use them all the time at home as well as for travel.
Agree! As a longtime hiker, I never go anywhere without some version of a first aid kit, even have a pretty big one in my truck. In fact, hiker videos are great resources for creating an emergency kit since we’re also obsessed with weight. 😆
Liquids, gels, aerosols and pastes : these “include anything like beverages, creams, hair gel, hairspray, shampoo, suntan lotions, toothpaste or any item of similar consistency”….
The second zipper on the packing cube is for compression. So you have it expanded, pack it full and then zip that second zipper back up, to make it smaller, and it compresses everything, so it takes up less space 😬
Hi. First I love all the tips but is there any way to film at a higher resolution? Even in a small screen the video is really fuzzy and hard to see. Thanks for the information!
We used small carry-ons for our last trip. The airlines made us check them. One was a small hard-sided carry-on, well within the required dimensions and not heavy. The other was a Rick Steve's soft backpack. If the airline says you have to check the carry-on, is there any recourse?
Sarah, Love your videos emphasizing weight of items. Already looking forward to our May 2022 trip to Switzerland & Italy! I've ordered a kitchen scale and a Rick Steves convertible bag. Been asking vendors for the fabric weight, oz/sq.yd., before ordering. Have ordered lightweight 7-oz denim jeans, cotton seersucker & linen shirts. Hope the travel segment and your business bounce back quickly. Many thanks!
I love my suited nomad packingcubes, can compress or not compress.. I've come a long way from how I used to pack. Another TH-camr or 5 prepared me well bit om always looking for other ideas. I know 1 item I don't go low on is pj bottoms. New every night. Buy daytime I have brought down a huge amount. I love your weight suggestions and what to do.
I'm a larger lady, 22. Ex officio XL works for me. After putting on, I dont feel as if I'm wearing anything. No sweat build up. They can be worn two days before stinky.
I was a huge Ex Officio fan (XL fits my 14-16 behind), owned dozens over the years for hiking, but a few years ago they switched from narrow foldover elastic to cheaper flat elastic, and within two washes the flocked side that sits against your skin started pilling horribly!! Trim them off, next wash they’re back and so irritating to the skin! The fabric itself is still high quality, but the elastic sucks. So I switched to Duluth and LOVE THEM!
i immediately knew you were credible when you said it doesn't matter what you bring, it matters what it weighs. Soooooo true!
I'm going overseas for 10 days in a few months and have been watching packing videos for days. Yours is by far some of the best advice I've heard. The tip to take pictures of my perscriptions is genius! Thank you for not making this an "influencer" type of video but something actually useful.

Thank you😊
Plan two weeks ahead what you'll bring? I start MONTHS early! I LOVE the process. :-D
Same, my husband makes fun of me for it
Thrive Causemetics are excellent. Best mascsmara in the world!
SAME!!
Lol me too
LOL! I have been packing and planning my packing for weeks and we don’t leave for 2.5 months.
LUGGAGE TIPS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Tie three or four colored ribbons around the handle to your luggage to warn others that this is not their luggage.
Learn Half Windsor knot tying:
It is the 2nd example in this video
th-cam.com/video/X0yh5rKB9lE/w-d-xo.html
This knot does not loosen.
Put your phone number on one ribbon using a fine point permanent Sharpie.
Example: “Owner 454-333-7878”
No personal name necessary.
Pleasant color combinations:
Red, white and blue
Chartreuse and purple and orange
Orange and light blue
Orange and yellow
Gray and pink
Green and yellow
Red and Green
Red and Gold
Light blue and light green and white
The 4th ribbon could be white, gray, black, tan
Tip #2 Take a cell phone picture of the ribbon tied on.
Tip #4
Put your phone number on a 2” x 1/2” piece of fabric or plastic sheet.
Tip #5 ADDING UNIQUENESS
4 ribbons
1 designer ribbon
colored taped handle
stencil SPRAY PAINT a 2 1/2” stencil letter or number or word to the suit case exterior surface in addition to using all the other ideas here.
Stencil spray paint a letter to the TOP ribbon.
Use ribbons that are wider or more narrow than 1”.
Put a travel sticker on the case.
Tip #6 WEIGH YOUR OWN
Scales accuracy varies at different airports. If you are even 1 pound over, you pay. So, regulate yourself. Found on Ebay, buy a
HAND HELD DIGITAL SCALE
It is less than $15.
I've had several handheld scales and each one was confiscated at various times because, I guess, they looked dangerous. (?)
@@rebeccaarcher5139 thank you
I've been watching your content for a few years. Thanks for the updated packing video. You got me started on ultralight/one bag philosophy. Something I recommend is linking some of the products into the description of the video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I agree.
My bag is a Maxpro Lite 5
5.4 lbs.
This video never gets old. It always helps to remind ourselves of a better way to do it. Thank You! ❤
Sarah is THE PACKING GURU!🧳🧳
I tuck my shoes in whatever bits of space are left, so they aren't necessarily together. I find cleaned plastic bread bags suit me for shoe covers.
I agree with you about not needing special shoe bags. I reuse any old plastic bag.
Produce bags are abundant and light.
Be safe!
Ask your pharmacist to print you a list of medications and carry it with you in case there are any questions anywhere.
Love it , BEST VIDEO- "nobody ever said I wish I had brought more"! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This is the BEST packing video I have ever seen. Thank you.
Thanks for the tips!
@@SarahMurdochadventures Thank YOU for all your great information and inspiration! : - )
This was a very informative and practical video on travel that I have seen. Thanks.
I love all your videos. You are a great teacher. I followed your advice and began to pack light for all my trips.
Where do you get “ tinted” zink with an spf of 50 and what is its name? TYIA
@@deniseslass-lipson6501 Elta MD Tinted . They have a couple different formulations. Moisture and a UV clear.
@@deniseslass-lipson6501 also a great one is invisible zinc spf 50 Tinted. They have different shades.
Yeah, I don't travel anywhere without SPF, even in winter!
If I hadn't already subscribed, you would have had me at a skirt being extra air conditioning! Is there something stronger than a "like" for this video 😂❤
You are the master packer and we are grateful for your wisdom. You’ve simplified my life for so many years. Thank you.
What a great video! Thank you! I especially appreciate the tip about weighing things … it honestly never occurred to me! I was only concerned that I could fit everything in the suitcase and still close it! 😂
PS I did do a couple really smart things on a recent trip to Europe… I only filled my rolling carry-on suitcase halfway and packed a large empty
Lug duffel bag inside.
I like to bring some knitting on my travels, especially on the plane because I get nervous flying.
Loved the the honesty....much needed! Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this video and helpful tips. 😊😊 I'm taking notes.
Fantastic video. So many things I have never thought of!
And that's why I love preboarding - I never have to gate check my suitcase from lack of overhead bin space.
Your background is very busy and it obstructs what you are showing. I love what you're saying
You are amazing!!!! Practical and innovative ideas based on so much experience! I love an expert. Thank you so much!
Sarah, I love the paste deodorant as well. I typically buy from Little Seed Farm and you are always allowed 3 samples when you purchase. These samples are flat and lightweight and last a long time (perfect for travel carryon). I always enjoy your practical, helpful and encouraging videos. Thank you!
I really love Lume too.
Thanks for another great video! I’m (hopefully) going to Europe in late fall and I’d love to see some tips for packing light for cold weather travel.
Great and smart things to pack and what to avoid! Thanks for sharing!🤗
I love the Thrive Causemetics mascara! I always buy the minis when they have them available.
Ty for excellent advice with rationales and brand citations. I learned SO much.
Yes, please cover shoes. I'm a US size 11, and it's always a pain finding good shoes. Thanks!
They also have cuter shoes like Birkenstocks, womens designer shoes, heels, the whole nine yards
@@BronzeBellaBria yep, a good portion of my sneakers are men's 9.5. Toe box is always a smidge too big, but it works.
One of your best …thank you !
Ps pockets are always appreciated!
♥️
I’m traveling for a week 3 months from now and I’ve been planning for a couple months! I like the KISS method. What I plan on doing when I get to the destination is the main factor of my planning.
Great video, lots of good ideas and information. Only thing was the video was blurry.
Thanks for all the info. I’d love to see more sustainable products, and options other than Amazon, fast fashion and throwaway clothes, for our planet. Great ideas though !
See Sarah's video on packing with Eileen Fisher products
Thanks so much for your sensible and valuable tips! Enjoyed your video!
I love the various uses for floss, including cutting cheese! :) better than using a debit card
This video is amazing! So many packing possibility. I like the challenge of organising.
I think it might be Cotopaxi? Maybe
I love watching & listening to your travel-related presentations. I think your ideas will be really helpful the next trip I take.
What brand of solid lotion do you use and where can I find it?
Also sometimes I use chewable tablets for toothpaste. I bought on Amazon.
Excellent video. So true that we are Guests in another country, so when in Rome do as the Romans do❤
That was very helpful with the light weight clothes and your frank talk about underpants does not disturb me at all:)
Meanwhile I need to watch this 1 again and absorb more
(Also, on the really thin backpacks: Ikea sell a backpack that folds away into itself - small square
Hi Sarah. New subscriber here. Nobody talk about weighing. Very good idea. Will try to buy all your recommended products.
Yay! Thank you!
Also, travel size hygiene items if u do buy them. Thanks for all the info!
I am working on new videos so I will be covering that here. Until then, my blog at adventureswithsarah.net has some writing about the Box of Awesome.
@@SarahMurdochadventures hi sarah i think u removed the video of mert taner giving information about ephesus. How can i reach tht video again?
I use Altoid containers for qtips, tums, sewing kit, earrings, necklaces, bandaids, and many other small items.
Loqi bags are made of recycled material,
weigh 56 g (1.98 oz) and can carry up
to 20 kg (44 lbs).
For people looking for small containers of liquids/tooth paste etc The 3-1-1 rule restricts "fluids" to 3.4 ounces not just 3.0 ounces.
Liquids, gels, aerosols and pastes : these “include anything like beverages, creams, hair gel, hairspray, shampoo, suntan lotions, toothpaste or any item of similar consistency”….
Lol! Maybe that's who I'll be in the Bahamas. Maybe I'm someone else when I'm there. That's awesome! Thanks for this vid!
A really lovely deodorant option is Lume! Great clean product that works amazingly well. Also, Calia by Carrie Underwood has fabulous gear.
So glad you mentioned this product that can be used on all potentially stinky body parts :o)
The second zipper on the packing cube is for compression. So you have it expanded, pack it full and then zip that second zipper back up, to make it smaller, and it compresses everything, so it takes up less space 😬
Wonderful video and so very thorough,
Thanks for the great video. I too love a pillow. Which one would you recommend?
YESSSSS! Pockets!!
Great tips, especially the lady stuff. 👍
Thank you for all your tips. The best tip was to weigh your clothes. I'd like to know what you would take on a two week trip. 👍👍👍
So much information thanks really interesting
Is there a video on how to pack light when travelling for the fall or winter? Winter clothes are much thicker and heavier, how to pack light?
For the larger ladies exofficio may not work. Duluth trading company makes a mesh undie that travels well.
Bar shampoo is the best for traveling!
What is the brand of deodorant you mentioned? Is it aluminum free? Thank you!
here's the best adapters jack to bluetooth. The airfly is amazing!
