    Really good explanation, and I appreciate that you didn't feel the need to clown on COMC just because it doesn't work for you. I don't know what the card volume point is where it makes sense to shift from using COMC to selling yourself on eBay, but you are clearly well above that threshold! I'm well below it and would agree that beyond the fees (really have to avoid sending cards below ~$4 to COMC) the length of time it takes for them to process is really tough. During the height of the pandemic sales they were so far behind on order fulfillment that as a seller you got killed on anything that was sent to auction since people wouldn't be wiling to spend as much on them as other eBay sellers since they took so long to ship. Lot of good information and I hope you keep the videos coming.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback, and agreed there are many benefits to selling on COMC I guess it really boils down to your goals.

    • @digginginthecards
      @digginginthecards ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, my main gripe is their auction. I seem to lose money in every auction I have sent a card to.

  • @rascal3013
    @rascal3013 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Besides the ridiculous wait times and upfront cost to be able to sell. Any fixed price sales are charged 5% fee when sold. When you want your money from COMC there is a fee of 10% just to get your money. More fees on top of the 10% if your cashing out less than $250.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that makes it even worse if you are truly trying to sell and make withdrawals. I think most just use it to flip cards and never cash out. So really not a selling platform per se.

    7:30 How will you pull/ship once you have 30-40 times the amount of cards listed on eBay and get 100 sales/day?
    Do you have a sku system for your raw cards?
    I started one for my graded cards (XXXX where X is a digit - got stickers on Amazon for that) but still need one for my raw cards (not many listed on eBay yet). I might go with the XXXX stickers again.
    Love the videos. Keep them coming!
    Cheers,
    Julien

      Easy, just organize your inventory as you grow, way easier than you think. Just cant be lazy.... cheers. Look at how burbank sports cards is doing it (search them on TH-cam) Im organizing the same way, by sport, by set, then ordering by card # in set. Easy peasey....

    Comc is helpful for Overseas AND Canadians. Shipping costs from Canada to & from anywhere is astronomical and even within Canada. If you want to add tracking it's another $7+. It's ridiculous. So our ebay sales are hurt. Plus some of the US sellers refuse to ship outside of the US so the comc mailbox is phenomenal for that.

    • @digginginthecards
      @digginginthecards ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true for me as well. Cause I live in Korea.

    I buy cards on Comc but will never send in cards to them 50¢ a cards upfront is a nonstarter for me why when ebay is free and instant and easy to get paid.

    If I lived in the states I would use Comc less. I miss the chance to sell cards when a player is hot because I live in another country and the shipping is outrageous; people don't want to buy unless it is high-end card. That is the only time the shipping cost makes any sense. So I send as many multiple-dollar value cards I can so Comc. My really big cards I keep, and I use the credit from Comc sales to buy other cards on that platform and scale up.

  • @andy72
    @andy72 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm an eBay seller. I wonder what the sales velocity is on COMC vs eBay. If you had doubles of cards, it would be cool to try an experiment. Sell 10 cards on ebay and 10 on COMC. After a month, see how many sold and what your profit is.

    @jayboley9683 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's common sense lol. If you're trying to run your own business why consign with another company? Paying the 50$ fee pretty much eliminates being able to sell cards for 1.50-2$.

    Great content and analysis - really appreciate it. I just sent 27 slabbed cards to COMC to give it a try. I don't do high volume and sell slabbed cards exclusively. Wondering what you think of My Slabs and whether or not you have any cards listed on their site...thank you brother and keep grinding.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, never used my slabs but sounds like from why I hear from others only slabs that sell there are ones people make offers on for 80% of eBay comps, so again eBay is the better place to sell slabs as well IMO.

    Love the channel man! Completely agree with your thoughts. COMC has a place but it’s just not for every dealer.

  • @themediamarauder1582
    @themediamarauder1582 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yea. I could see certain cards might be good on COMC but I want more control of my inventory and like you said not all that upfront fees!! One thing I hate about Ebay is all the lowballers. I have a buy that sends me offers every week for my autographed cards at .50 each. I need to set the deny offers under this amount button or block him. It is annoying and I have told him NO several times. Just subbed to the channel. Good stuff! I had a cardshop from 1990-2010 and just got back into it a coupole years ago.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I also get annoyed with low ballers, sometimes I’ll have some fun with them. Like if they send one real low, and I send back a reasonable offer and they come back real low, I’ll send an offer a penny below asking the next time I counter 😂.

    I can understand what your saying. COMC more a hobby selling space; eBay better for business development. Makes sense. I've been using COMC a lot myself, but that has more to do with the fact that I live abroad in China currently, and eBay is a headache upon a headache from here. COMC has allowed me to be more active as a seller. But, yeah, it's just been a little thing here and there, not a full on business for me or anything (though I did just make a video recently about how I made about $5K on COMC during 2022). But once I'm back in the US, I think COMC will be a smaller portion of my plan. I'll still use it some, cuz I just love the platform, but I think eBay will become the core of my business development.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right on yeah overseas COMC 100% makes sense, safe travels!

    JMac - thanks for the videos. I was reading the comment about post office and labels and it reminded me of a recent video in which you indicated that you use Pirate Ship. I've always printed labels straight through eBay. Any benefit to using Pirate Ship that I'm missing? Thanks so much.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use Pirate ship for all the other shipping that takes place like grading, sending stuff bought on Instagram/FB etc. stuff sold through eBay I only use eBay labels.

    unfortunately for me my post office is now demanding I send PWE from ebay at $1.05 despite the fact that I've been mailing them for .57 cents for years. Their explanation was I've just been getting lucky this entire time lol Now I'm sticking to graded cards or things mailed in a bubble mailer or higher. I was listing close to 100 cards a day and trying to scale up to your level!

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Invest in a thermal label printer and just print labels through eBay and you dont have to worry about it

  • @ryanglovka9478
    @ryanglovka9478 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey JMac! Do you ever worry about so much of your business living in that shed? What if someone broke in and stole all your cards? Or there was a fire and you lost everything? Or do you just take out a separate insurance policy for all that stuff? Just curious. Great videos!!

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its insured.

    • @JMacSportsCards
      @JMacSportsCards  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When we added homeowners insurance we told them that I was self employed and they offered coverage for inventory and the coverage for the shed for theft/damage/etc. Its pretty inexpensive as well to add the inventory coverage.

      @@JMacSportsCards So I Guess you like losing money on deals. Sell something for $100, give EBAY 13, Yeah, for as much volume as they do.... yes it's ridiculous.
